Hope it will be bach.

I am writing this after Bingewatching series 1 over 2 nights.

It's filmed in a part of the world I know well, the strong Welsh cast give the show gravitas, theres beautiful scenery of the less rugged hills of lower mid Wales and the characters are well written too.

The downside is perhaps the accent of Martin Clunes but is still closer to a mid Wales accent than that of the real Welsh actors.

After about the second episode you put up with it and forget his years as doc martin as the script takes over and the viewer is gripped with the story.

It all goes well until episode 6 where it seems to lose it way Like the forthcoming series Protection, this has 6 episodes whereas the usual 4 for a itv drama might have been enough.

Do hope it will return but keeping such a strong cast together will be a big job for the producers.

Modest, brave and very entertaining.

Wales, the country, features in this English language mini series. Martin Clunes most famous for "Men Behaving Badly" heads the cast and presents a Welsh farmer barely making ends meet financially and merely making ends meet with his teenage son as well; whose mom has died.

The first episode is a little slow burn, but soon we are introduced to the villains, Gerran Howell plays the teenage drug dealer to great effect. The teenage son is induced to hold a mysterious package and ofcourse chaos ensues.

There is a gritty realism and desperation to our characters and it's easy to embrace them and lose yourself in the drama and tragic events that follow. Included in the drama are the police, their investigations, neighbours in hospital and a duplicitous brother who is both hero and minor villain. The bank looms as they do over all farms, and our hero must navigate these waters with skill.

Of late, although we love British TV over the exploding cars of American TV, the Brits seem to use a chainsaw to hack through the last episode with eyes fixed on season two. But the failure to end season one well, usually disappoints.

"Out There" does not fall into that trap! The last episode is as exciting and edgy as the entire series and proves to be a gem!

Highly recommended!

Buckle up... I'm guessing this will be Series 1 of 5

Very watchable, UK take, on a Breaking Bad type of show.

I surmised, around Episode 3, that this was not a stand alone series as there are too many threads to tie up in just 6 episodes. Usually, that WOULD bother me as I like things to just finish rather than go on & on, stretching the patience of the viewer & diluting the plot (Gangs of London, take note), but this series has some understated characters & the Welsh scenery is lush.

There's really nothing too negative to say other than there being one or two characters who, so far at least, seem surplus to requirement & have a distinct scent of Red Herring about them.

I sincerely hope that all the acting team have signed up for the long haul.

Great series but the ending ...well not the actual ending, is it?....

When is a mini series not a mini series when it is a series!

We watched this as we knew that as it was classed as a mini series by IMDB it would be only one series and NOT multiple series'

Imagine how disappointed we were when the last episode finished leaving an unfinished story!

It was a great series deserving 8-9 out of 10 until the final scene of the final episode resulting in the whole family grunting and groaning with dismay and the thought if we won't remember anything about this when the second series comes out!

Please please please categorise the TV series' correctly as it is really annoying!

Above average thriller

Martin Clunes is very good in this, as is Gerran Howell (playing much younger than his real age) as the drug-dealing friend of Clunes' son. Carly-Sophia Davies as the girfriend is also quite a lot older than her role suggests and she performs it well, though she perhaps doesn't look quite as young as her character should. Louis Serkis is closest to the right age for his character as Clunes's son and is adequate. He is supposed to be traumatised for most of the story, but I could imagine someone else doing a better job. As with most of such serials, it is stretched out over too many episodes (by about two) and the ending is not satisfying. I won't say more, so as to avoid spoilers. Nevertheless, it kept me engaged right through.

It's a mixed bag, but definitely worth watching.

Farmer, Nathan has to deal with a raft of problems that arrive all at once, his son Johnny gets involved with a gang of drug dealers, and when his neighbouring farmer dies, it looks as though the future of his own farm is under threat.

I had very high hopes for this one, a Welsh set drama, fronted by Martin Clunes, penned by the excellent crime writer Ed Whitmore.

After a slow start it does pick up, it gets better as it progresses, an incident in the third episode changes the tone and feel of it, it gets warmer, but I'd never really say it ignites. I wasn't blown away by the final episode, is it perhaps left open for a second series.

There are a series of hard to believe events, you need to suspend your disbelief somewhat, but it's definitely watchable, largely due to the excellent performance of Martin Clunes, who gives us an interesting Welsh accent.

It is great to see so many Welsh actors, the likes of Mark Lewis Jones, Sharon Morgan, Aneirin Hughes and Eiry Jones, all play their parts well.

Good visuals, great location work, Carmarthen in particular is great to see.

7/10.

Hooked

I was searching for something fresh to watch, tired of aimlessly scrolling through Netflix and other streaming platforms, when I stumbled upon Out There. From the very first episode, the pacing was spot on, gradually drawing me into the story. We're now on episode 3 or 4, and I'm completely hooked!

Martin Clunes delivers as always, but the real standout for me is Natalia Kostrzewa, who plays Eva. I immediately recognised her from Fool Me Once-her performance here is just as compelling. Her natural acting, alongside Clunes and the rest of the ensemble, is so refreshing to watch.

This is a highly recommended show, and I only hope viewers back in Ireland can access it as well. If you're looking for something to get lost in, give Out There a try!

ambition would be the key here

To this reviewer this is a series about ambition. The protagonist, well defined by Martin Clunes, aspires to live his life as those before him have, a farmer in farm country, raising a family, and making an honest dollar. His ambitions are challenged however by the local lads, who have an entirely different business in mind; by his own son, who is not finding the respect he needs in farming; and by the job of farming itself, which had somehow failed to keep pace with the realities of the modern world we live in. Meanwhile, all those ambitions are in turn challenged by the producers at BBC who (like their counterparts across the pond) are lately obsessed with the challenge of taking a project that would have worked best as a one-of feature, and morphing it into a multi-year series. Which it most definitely is not. But a multi-year series has a much higher payout, doesn't it? ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." I'm absolutely hooked and need a Season 2-please make it happen!

I'm honestly surprised to see people saying they found the show boring! The first episode focuses on introducing all the characters, which I really appreciate because it made me care about what happens to them later. The acting throughout the show is fantastic. I especially loved the kick-ass Polish cleaner-what a standout character!

Louis Ashbourne Serkis's performance was particularly impressive. He brought so much depth and humanity to his role. I completely believed that a young, vulnerable boy could have been tricked into everything that unfolded. His acting really sold the emotional weight of the story.

The ending of the show was incredibly strong, leaving me eager to find out how the characters will survive the drug dealers' takeover. I'm absolutely hooked and need a Season 2-please make it happen!

Faint promise, but still a jostle between extremes

STAR RATING: ***** Brilliant **** Very Good *** Okay ** Poor * Awful

Nathan Williams (Martin Clunes) is a rural farmer in the Welsh valleys, living with his teenage son, Johnny (Louis Ashbourne Serkis.) He is becoming frustrated at the sight of the drones he sees flying over the fields near his home, on account of the county lines drug gangs operating in the area. When it becomes clear Johnny has become caught up in this world, Nathan is driven to extremes to protect his son, until a terrifying act of violence plunges them all into a swirling whirlwind of hell.

In the later years of his life and career, Martin Clunes is moving away from the fluffier, more light-hearted comedy roles he broke through with, into more mature, rounded serious drama roles, the latest of which is this six part ITV drama, honing in on the still relevant topic of 'county lines' drugs gangs, exploiting youngsters to distribute drugs in smaller, more secluded towns and cities. The result is a curious mixed bag that just about holds your attention to the end.

In the lead role, Clunes has to carry the project, which he has long form with, and he does so reliably well, managing a decent Welsh accent, numbingly calm, even during high stress moments, and losing his cool only when his emotions overpower him. He has some strong chemistry with co star Lewis Jones as his brother, who has an arguably stronger presence. It's the strongest aspect of a first half that drags a little and feels uneventful, before the gravity of the story kicks in in the second act, and things get dramatic all at once.

It's not entirely believable in its execution, but it's a depiction of an increasingly desperate situation, and it manages to keep you riveted to the end, with an opening for a follow up, to at least make things add up that little bit more. ***

So far still engaged ...

People are right about Clunes's accent. Love this actor, he's a natural, but unfortunately they have tried to make him Welsh. If they wanted this character to be Welsh they should have got a Welsh actor.

It's great that it's set in Wales. Beautiful country and unique people. I blame the director. The one mitigating excuse for Clunes's accent is his father is English. But his accent is not continuous - it veers badly between English and Welsh in a single sentence and is distracting. It takes you out of your suspension of disbelief. They should have made him Welsh or English - a whole new barrel of issues to contend with although apparently some say too much is packed into this drama already.

Only on episode one. And will stick with it because like Martin Clunes (let down here by being allowed to make up his own accent), love Wales and the Welsh and am very interested in the subject matter of farmers, youth, county lines etc etc.

Enjoyable but still a bit silly

Without giving any spoilers, first two episodes are very strong and then it descends into silly from henceforth. I still enjoyed watching it, however, but there are a lot of very implausible plot points. Martin Clunes did a good job testing his slightly grumpy character instead of the bumbling loveable Dr Martin we've got used to.

It's nice to see a "crime drama" set on a farm which actually seems to dig into some of the nuances with British farming and the countryside backdrop is just beautiful.

All in all, if you fancy a casual viewing crime show would recommend as long as you can suspend your belief in reality!

Kids acting terrible

The adult acting and the actor who plays Johnny are good but the other kids/drug dealers are terrible. 'Kenny' is very cringeworthy and although he looks the part, he doesn't come across as having much experience in acting. He just doesn't fit with the other cast members. Episode 2 is especially bad. Dans character is also cringeworthy and is terrible at times. Of course Martin clunes and Mark Lewis Jones are fantastic as usual and to be expected and they made the series if I'm honest. Overall the concept for the series is good but I certainly don't think I'd recommend watching it unless you are a fan of Matin Clunes then of course watch it.

Absolutely brilliant,I hope they do a second series.

Start filming your next series. Quite enthralling. The story line was great. I did not expect the way this series was going to go. I was hooked from the word go and had to watch the hole series in one go. All the actors were absolutely brilliant and as it left us with a conclusion,it has still left it open for a second series. I really do hope that ITV will consider another series, because there is a lot to work with. I am normally quite cynical to dramas on TV,and I am very hard to please but this definitely had me intrigued from the beginning. All the actors performed great. There are a lot of opportunities with this series for it to continue,I do hope that your script writers have got their pens ready and working on series 2.

Fantastic exciting new drama

Give it a chance!! It's fantastic!! Really enjoyed every episode of this drama & praying ITV see sense & make a second series!!

Every minute you are on the edge of your seat & I like that it's not predictable!!

Fantastic cast & beautiful location in deepest Wales!!

Martin Clune's was fantastic as the leading role & very believable in his character!!

We have just finished watching the final episode (episode 6) in the series & we have been left with so many exciting cliff hangers.

I would happily binge watch a second series right now & so would my whole family!

Go & enjoy this beautiful & fresh new drama :)

Breaking Bad in Wales

Great set-up series. It was just getting going by the time the 6th episode ended. I can see this going like Breaking Bad, with the weak Nathan, played by Martin Clines doing whatever it takes to keep his farm and family out of trouble. Initially anyway. Depends on whether he gets a taste for the criminal life. The producers obviously know what they are copying and even have the drugs mastermind hiding his operations behind an egg delivery operation (Gus had his chickens in Breaking Bad) I'm interested to see where this goes and am looking forward to another series. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Very disappointing

Good acting but the plot is unbelievable and has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. Martin Clunes is a fine actor and is truly wasted in this poorly written script. The series starts off well but by episode four all creditability is gone. What could have been a great series runs to a ridiculous soap type plot, poorly executed and overly complicated. The fact that a season two is I presume on the books is worrying. I think that as people watch this series the viewing numbers will drop and the second series will be cancelled. Surely there must be a better use of a good actor such as Martin Clunes. Are there not any better script writers out there?

Impressive

We watched this over three nights and were impressed by the realism of most of it ("most", because I've never been involved of the disposal of bodies). Close to home in many other respects (the beauty and the struggle of farming, exploitation of young and old)...

There is so much here to be further developed, not only the primary arc, and I hope the program continues to flourish through further seasons (plural).

The cinematography stands out at numerous points and, personally, I loved the soundtrack.

Mark Lewis Jones, Eiry Thomas, Silas Carson and Martin Clunes's characters were performed with aplomb.

Really enjoyed this

I truly hope there will be a series 2 because I binge watched this and have rarely done that since the covid days. This is a well thought out and well directed and produced series, so far, and kept me engaged from start to finish. The characters are strong, the underbelly of what is going on is clear. The tension and chilling moments (with a few surprises) were well developed. Looking forward for confirmation this series will be picked up again because it is well worth a watch and something I would call a smart person's thriller. You will not be disappointed by the acting and the plot as it stands.

What happened next???

Having seen the trailer I had high hopes for this series.

It's a (very) slow burner but I did become involved with it by the end of episode 2.

It is stretched out a little over 6 episodes, each being an hour,(around 47 minutes with no ads).

Generally the cast were good,Clunes especially being his usual reliable self and I had no prblem with his welsh accent as others seem to have had.

My biggest problem with it is the ending...after staying with it through some longueurs I was really looking forward to the final episode where the bad guys would be vanquished and normality restored...how wrong I was.

It ended with no real resolution which I cannot forgive. Perhaps I'm old fashioned in expecting a crime drama to resolve in the expected way...I was left in the air,so to speak and,in the imaginary world inhabited by the protaganists, the bad guys are still getting away with their crimes.

My 5 star rating is purely for Martin Clunes and a few others but the drama itself leaves everything to be desired.
