UK TV ratings: New Tricks remains a Tuesday night favourite with 5.4m

New Tricks dipped slightly in the ratings, but was still Tuesday night's (August 18) most watched programme outside of the soaps, according to overnight data.

Episode three of the drama's final series attracted 5.39m (26.6%) at 9pm, while Don't Take My Baby followed with 1.19m (11.4%) at 10.45pm.

On BBC Two, Great British Menu rose to 1.62m (8.7%) at 7.30pm, before The House That £100k Built interested 1.59m (8.1%) at 8pm, and Are Our Kids Tough Enough? Chinese School averaged 1.33m (6.6%) for its final instalment at 9pm.

ITV's The Dales brought in 2.04m (11.0%) at 7.30pm (123k/0.6% on +1), while Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Garden was watched by 2.33m (11.8%) at 8pm (135k/0.7%). School Swap: The Class Divide followed with 1.42m (7.0%) at 9pm (176k/1.2%).

Over on Channel 4, The Three Day Nanny entertained 1.08m (5.5%) at 8pm (160k/0.8%), and Terror on Everest: Surviving the Nepal Earthquake shocked 850k (4.2%) at 9pm...

England's final World Cup match attracts less than 6m on ITV
England's final World Cup 2014 match attracted just under 6 million viewers on Tuesday, overnight data reveals.

The 0-0 stalemate against Costa Rica brought in 5.7m (38.8%) at 4pm on average on ITV. It peaked at over 9m at around 6.30pm.

Later, Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Garden returned to 3.2m (16.8%) at 8pm (144,000/1.7% on +1). Alison Steadman's Shetland was seen by 1.8m (8.4%) at 9pm (165k/0.9%).

BBC One's coverage of the game between Greece and Ivory Coast scored 4.0m (20.9%) at 8pm. BBC Three's showing of Japan and Colombia gathered 744k (3.8%) at 8.30pm.

On BBC Two, Today at Wimbledon appealed to 1.2m (6.0%) at 8pm, followed by Shopgirls with 1.5m (7.2%) at 9pm and a repeat of Goodness Gracious Me with 851k (4.5%) at 10pm.

Channel 4's Location, Location, Location continued with 1.3m (6.7%) at 8pm (221k/1.0%). Auction House gathered 1.7m (7.8%) at 9pm (213k/1.2%), while Kitchen Nightmares entertained 834k (4.7%) at 10pm (152k/1.6%).

On Channel 5, Dog Rescuers interested 1.2m (6.2%) at 8pm.

Alan Titchmarsh quits ITV chat show: 'It's time to move on'
Alan Titchmarsh has announced that he has quit his ITV chat show.

Writing in his weekly Daily Express column, the gardening broadcaster revealed that he will bring his daytime talk show to an end after seven years.

However, he will continue to present ITV's Love Your Garden and is expected to host Britain's Best Garden.

The final episode of The Alan Titchmarsh Show will air in late 2014.

He said in a statement: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my years at the helm of The Alan Titchmarsh Show but I feel the time has come to move on.

"With some exciting new projects ahead, I'm looking forward to continuing to work with ITV."

An ITV spokesperson said: "Alan has decided that the next series of his chat show will be the final one to give way to other projects with us which will be announced in due course."

'New Tricks' returns with over 7.5 million on BBC One
New Tricks returned to easily top the ratings on Tuesday evening, according to overnight figures.

The BBC One crime drama's tenth series attracted 7.52 million viewers (33.5%) at 9pm. This is down from the previous series' 7.8m launch, but up on October's finale ratings of 6.79m

Earlier, Nigel Slater's show Dish of the Day cooked up 2.88m (16.4%) at 7pm.

On BBC Two, Count Arthur Strong amused 725,000 (3.7%) at 8pm, followed by The Cruise with 1.13m (5.4%) at 8.30pm. Kumbh Mela: The Greatest Show on Earth interested 772k (3.4%) at 9pm.

On ITV, Nature's Newborns gathered 2.79m (15.0%) at 7.30pm, while Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Garden appealed to 3.15m (15.5%) at 8pm (175k/0.8% on +1). Hunting the Doorstep Conmen secured 2.33m (10.4%) at 9pm (277k/1.6%).

'Luther' loses 300k viewers, still tops night for BBC One
Luther topped Tuesday's ratings outside of soaps despite another dip, overnight data reveals.

Idris Elba's BBC One drama lost 300,000 viewers from last week but still easily won overall with 4.41m (21.2%) at 9pm.

On BBC Two, Raymond Blanc's How To Cook Well interested 1.42m (7.9%) at 8pm, followed by The Cruise with 1.39m (7.2%) at 8.30pm. Route Masters was seen by 1.73m (8.3%) at 9pm.

On ITV, Nature's Newborns appealed to 2.23m (12.7%) at 7.30pm (128k/0.7 on +1). Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Garden attracted 2.39m (12.8%) at 8pm (210k/1.0%). Robson Green's How the North was Built educated 1.76m (8.5%) at 9pm (150k/0.9%).

Channel 4's Gok Like was seen by 889k (4.8%) at 8pm (120k/0.6%), followed by Princess Diana's Dress: The Auction with 1.91m (9.2%) at 9pm (284k/1.7%).

'Luther' returns with 5 million viewers on BBC One
Luther returned for a third series to top the ratings on Tuesday evening, according to overnight figures.

Idris Elba's BBC One drama thrilled 5.00 million viewers (21.7%) at 9pm, but was down over 700,000 from its previous episode in 2011.

On BBC Two, Today at Wimbledon scored 1.67m (7.7%) at 8pm, while Route Masters continued with 1.83m (8.0%) at 9pm.

On ITV, Nature's Newborns interested 2.69m (12.6%) at 7.30pm. Secrets from the Workhouse dropped 300k from last week's opener to 2.80m (14.3%) at 9pm (295k/1.8% on +1).

Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Garden climbed to 3.06m (14.2%) at 8pm (196k/0.9%).
