Stumbling upon the 2024 Indonesian horror movie "Pusaka" by random chance here in 2025, then there was not a shadow of doubt that I would sit down and watch it, as the movie combined two of my favorite genres of movies, that being horror and Asian. Sure, I had never heard about this movie from director Rizal Mantovani prior to sitting down and watching it, not that it really mattered. So I suppose that the director had every opportunity readily available to entertain and impress me.
Writer Husein M. Atmodjo put together a fair and entertaining enough script. It was not a particularly innovative script, but it proved to be entertaining nonetheless. I was adequately entertained by the storyline.
While I've seen a fair share of Indonesian movies, then I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. It should be noted, though, that the acting performances were good and they had a good and talented ensemble of actors and actresses.
The effects in "Pusaka" were actually quite good, and definitely added to the overall impression of the movie. While some of the make-up effects on the possessed might have been simplistic, it actually looked good and helped define the character.
"Pusaka" had a great atmosphere to it, which was accomplished by the setting of the house, the lighting and the props, and it worked well in favor of the movie.
My rating of director Rizal Mantovani's 2024 movie "Pusaka" lands on a five out of ten stars.
