Dragged out, sentiment over substance

This film had the potential to tell a powerful story, but unfortunately, it gets bogged down by its own ambitions. Right from the start, I felt the movie was longer than it needed to be. The pacing is uneven, with scenes that linger far too long, and a narrative that feels stretched to its breaking point. This excessive length robs the film of any urgency or momentum, making it a slog to get through, especially in the second half. One of the film's biggest issues is its overly sentimental tone. While I understand the intent to pull at the heartstrings, the execution often feels forced and manipulative. There are moments that could have been genuinely moving, but they're undermined by a heavy-handed approach that lays on the emotion too thick. Instead of being swept up in the story, I found myself distanced by how calculated the film's emotional beats felt.

The biggest letdown, however, is the third act. After spending so much time building up the characters and their struggles, the film's resolution not only feels rushed but also sends a troubling message. The choices made by the characters in the final moments seem out of step with the rest of the film, and I couldn't shake the feeling that the story was doing a disservice to its own themes. What could have been a powerful statement about resilience and unity ends up feeling shallow and misguided.

While A Tribe Called Judah has some strong performances and moments of visual beauty, these are overshadowed by its flaws. The film's length, over-sentimentality, and ultimately disappointing third act make it a frustrating experience. It's a movie that reaches for greatness but falls short, leaving me more exasperated than inspired.

Captivating and Compelling Movie to Watch

"A Tribe Called Judah" masterfully delves into the intricacies of a quintessential Nigerian low-to-middle-income family grappling with economic and social challenges. The narrative skillfully intertwines humour, emotion, and suspense, crafting a compelling family drama. While a touch of brevity in certain scenes could have intensified viewer engagement, the overall synergy of the storyline, soundtrack, and cinematography that captures every moment of the scene elevates this film to a distinguished status, leaving an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape within the Nollywood realm. A thumb up to Funke Akindele and the other contributors.

I loved this movie so much!!

When I tell you that my 7 year old niece cannot sit through the most interesting movie once it's past 10pm, but she sat through this movie from 10 till 12 when we watched it! It shows you how interesting it is. This is such a beautiful movie showing the clash of different characters in a family but still the unbreakable bond of love that binds them together. It is full of moral lessons revolving around family and community from love to friendship to sacrifice and it shows the diverse characters one can come across especially when in trouble. Every single character was a 10/10! It's a must watch in my books. Well done Funke. I absolutely loved the movie.

Genius

I don't normally do this but I had to come here and rate this fascinating movie that had me glued to my screen. Hats off for the brain behind this movie, it is just genius. The only criticism I have is that the movie ended haha and somehow everyone would have loved the protagonist my favorite character to be one of the survivor. However that makes the movie even more unique creating suspense and taking you through different forms of emotions. The theme of the movie is one that majority can relate to, very beautiful.

This movie definitely deserves more recognition and an award on a global level.
