Heart warming. A big salute to our Fire Fighting brothers.

Must watch for those who don't realise the sacrifices of our brave firefighters.

World over firefighters are revered for their daring & honourable work, unfortunately not so revered in India. This movie is the 1st to bring out their fearless spirit and their dedication.

To jump into a burning inferno to save someone else's life is nothing but bravery at its highest degree. The movie is very rounded & enjoyable. It showcases the personal struggles for recognition when all other forces gets easily recognised for any act of bravery. Balancing family life with such a dangerous profession is not everyone's cup of tea. A big Salute to all the firefighters.

A new concept for Indian Cinema

This is probably the first time when the life of a firefighter has been shown in such detailed manner.

The film is only of about 2 hours which is not that lengthy which also means that it doesn't allow you the chance to get bored, that is only if you get hooked to the film in its first 15 minutes, The first 15 minutes is the best part about this film, the drone shots, screenplay, cinematography everything seemed perfect.

Pratik Gandhi and Divyendu put up really good performances, however Divyendu's character could have been played by any other small actor, his role doesn't really make an impact on the story, he's just a side character and he feels like the cop version of a family friendly Munna Bhaiya.

Pratik Gandhi on the other hand has nailed his role, he's managed to nail the Marathi accent even after being a gujrati himself.

This doesn't really mean that the film is perfect, even thought the acting of the main characters are good, the civilians stuck in the fire in buildings have done very poor performances. Some of the scenes in the film where the firefighters save the civilians seems unreal and something which is not possible in real life.

It really looks like they invested more than half their budget in the VFX as towards the end of the film the production quality slowly decreases with decrease in the set quality and the cinematography.

This doesn't mean it's a bad film, ITS ORETTY GOOD.

Worth a Watch.

Compelling topic, but storyline misses

Agni makes a commendable attempt at highlighting otherwise ignored firefighters, and brings an audience - otherwise unaware of the challenges faced by firefighters - into this world. That alone makes the movie interesting, but its attempt at stringing together a plot is forced at best and illogical at worst.

The plot centers on a father who leads his firefighting unit but is unappreciated for his work by his son. He encounters a series of mysterious fires across Mumbai, investigating them for arson. The nature of the final reveal to the audience is not very subtle or suspense-inducing, and in the end, it does not make much sense.

The firefighting scenes are done quite well, however, and make it moderately entertaining.

Firefighters deserve more respect!

The movie is about fire fighters dealing with similar instances of fire recently which highlights something fishy.

My interest in the movie arose when I saw Pratik Gandhi's involvement in the trailer. It caught my attention and I was all for the movie.

As we immerse into the movie, it is shown the culprit is coming back to India from Dubai and police catch him. The leading firefighter is not convinced of culprit and says the culprit must be an expertise of fire.

There are some abrupt points like there could be genuine incidents during that period. The police said they understand the incidence and would catch main culprit if there, but Pratiks character insists.

What I most liked about the movie is the portrayed nature of fire fighters. How they act but still don't get credit for their work. Pratik's presence blew life into the movie. An additional point for the "drama" involving firefighters, police department, culprit and politician.

Final Verdict: I liked the movie for the drama revolving around firefighters. I think you would like it too, watch it and know for yourselves.

New concept

We extend our gratitude to Excel Entertainment for producing such a captivating film. Pratik Gandhi and Saiyami Kher, alongside the rest of the cast and crew, have delivered exceptional performances. While we often acknowledge the contributions of police officers, doctors, and engineers, we often overlook the bravery of firefighters. This film serves as a powerful reminder of their selfless dedication and the immense risks they undertake to protect lives. It opens our eyes to the challenges they face and the sacrifices they make in the line of duty.

Fire fighters don't get a such benefit and important.

Compelling and Inspiring Story

Agniv is a gripping tribute to the unsung heroes of our society-firefighters. The film masterfully intertwines family drama with the intense challenges faced by those who risk their lives daily. Through its compelling storyline, it highlights the glaring disparity in recognition between firefighters and the police, urging society to value their sacrifices equally. The dialogues are sharp and memorable, balancing humor and emotion seamlessly. With a sprinkle of suspense that keeps you guessing and characters you deeply care for, Agniv is a heartfelt, entertaining, and socially relevant watch that leaves a lasting impression.

Agniv goes beyond storytelling, shedding light on a deeper societal issue: the need for a standardized recognition system across professions. It emphasizes that every role, especially those demanding immense effort, time, and life-threatening sacrifices, deserves equitable acknowledgment. Firefighters, like the police, play a crucial part in safeguarding lives, yet their contributions often remain overlooked. The film subtly questions societal hierarchies and urges a reevaluation of how we honor bravery. With its poignant message, Agniv inspires a conversation about fairness, dignity, and the respect every profession inherently deserves.

Much needed film about unsung heroes - Firefighters but execution could be better

This movie landed straight on OTT without a theatrical release, but after watching it, I feel it should have been released in theatres to get the full effect.

A group of firefighters uncovers a pattern of fires being deliberately set as part of a larger crime. With the Mumbai police joining forces and using fire department reports, they work together to nab the culprits.

It's an interesting story that highlights the bravery of fire brigade warriors-a subject rarely explored at length on Indian screens. The screenplay is tight, with a narrative that doesn't lose pace and moves quickly. However, the biggest letdown here is the climax reveal and how it unfolds. The culprit's motive for the crime is vague and doesn't make much sense. Moreover, despite the police and firefighters putting in their best efforts to catch the culprits, their strategy seems lacking, as the capture happens far too easily.

Pratik Gandhi takes center stage here, delivering a commendable performance. Divyenndu Sharma, who has been picking some good projects lately, does full justice to his role. The banter between the leads is funny and a treat to watch, with great chemistry between them. Sai Tamhankar, who plays Pratik's wife, has a strong screen presence and makes an impact despite limited screen time. Saiyami Kher also performs well in her supporting role.

The songs are not lip-synced, which doesn't disrupt the flow of the story. The fire breakout scenes are underwhelming-they lack the intensity and depth that could have made the audience sit on the edge of their seats. With right VFX and CGI work, these sequences would have given you chills. It's a missed opportunity to showcase the peril and heroism of firefighting in a gripping manner.

Overall, Agni is an interesting watch, but it could have been better with more work on the script and the fire sequences. While it stands out for its uniqueness, it's an average movie that's worth a watch for its concept.

Cinematic tribute to the brave firefighters.

Agni is a cinematic tribute to the brave firefighters who risk their lives daily to protect others, yet often remain in the shadows of public recognition. Directed with a clear intent to highlight their sacrifices, the movie is an emotionally charged and action-packed journey that leaves a lasting impression.

The plot revolves around the lives of a close-knit team of firefighters who navigate the physical dangers and emotional toll of their profession. The film balances heart-pounding rescue sequences with poignant moments of personal sacrifice, showing the human side of these unsung heroes. The intensity of the firefighting scenes is nothing short of breathtaking, immersing the audience in the chaos, danger, and adrenaline of life on the frontlines.

The ensemble cast delivers stellar performances, particularly the lead actor, who portrays a seasoned firefighter grappling with the weight of his duty and the lack of societal acknowledgment. The characters feel real and relatable, their struggles and triumphs leaving a mark on the viewer.

The cinematography deserves special mention for capturing the fiery infernos with stunning realism while also showcasing quieter, heartfelt moments with equal care. The gripping screenplay keeps the audience hooked from start to finish, while the soundtrack subtly underscores the drama without overpowering it.

What makes Agni stand out is its message. It shines a light on the selflessness of firefighters, urging viewers to recognize and appreciate their invaluable contribution to society. By the end, the film leaves you not only entertained but also with a deep sense of gratitude for these everyday heroes.

In conclusion, Agni is a must-watch-gripping, engaging, and deeply moving. It's more than just a movie; it's a heartfelt ode to the courage and humanity of firefighters. Highly recommended!

Fighting the blue flames!

Vittalrao is the chief of Parel fire station and like all firefighters, his contributions too get overshadowed and to make it worse, his brother-in-law Samit is a celebrated cop in town. This causes a rift between them with jealousy and ego taking the best of them. Elsewhere, a series of fire accidents pose a challenge to the firefighters as as they struggle to figure out what caused the fire. With the number of incidents increasing and arson is suspected, will Vittal and Samit set aside their difference on time to solve the mystery and catch the culprit, forms rest of the story.

We have lesser films based on firefighters in India and it definitely felt fresh despite the screenplay following the usual tropes of fire department vs police department clashes etc. Rahul Dholakia and Vijay Maurya start off really well with an engaging narrative. The lives of the firefighters and the conflict between Vittal and Samit is well established while tying the random fire incidents through their blue flames. It made for a really good first half.

The second half is still decent but what didn't work for me was the early reveal of the villain which reduced the impact. Even in the climax, the generic writing should have actually made way for Vittal and Samit to take the center stage which didn't happen. Instead of the revealing the villain so early, I would have preferred the focus to be on the investigation and how both the brother-in-laws clash over it. I wouldn't want to be too strict as this genre was a welcome change and the performances were good enough to command a watch.

Heroic and perfect Depiction of a Fire Fighters life in India

Here's a nice review for the movie "Agni":

*Agni: A Gripping Tale of Power and Corruption*

Director Rahul Dholakia's latest outing, Agni, is a scorching critique of the corrupt systems that govern our society. With a talented ensemble cast, including Pratik Gandhi, Saiyami Kher, Sai Tamhankar, Divyendu Sharma, and Jitendra Joshi, Agni is a gripping tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The film's narrative is tightly wound, with each character's storyline expertly intertwined to create a complex web of power and deception. The cast delivers stellar performances, bringing depth and nuance to their respective roles.

Pratik Gandhi shines as the protagonist, conveying a sense of vulnerability and determination that makes his character relatable and rootable. Divyendu Sharma is equally impressive, bringing a sense of menace and unpredictability to his portrayal of the antagonist.

The film's technical aspects are also noteworthy, with crisp editing and a haunting soundtrack that perfectly complements the on-screen action.

Overall, Agni is a must-watch for fans of gritty, realistic cinema. With its talented cast, taut narrative, and scathing social commentary, Agni is a film that will leave you thinking long after the credits roll.

*Rating:* 4.5/5 stars

*Recommendation:* If you enjoy films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Newton, and Court, you'll love Agni.

Weak script

The movie is laudable for showing spectacular fires and firefighters, but the accompanying script is unsatisfying with too many loose ends.

It seems that the director loved the special effects parts more than the storyline.

Acting is competent, the actors are well cast, and everyone delivers. Sai Tamhankar as Rukmini Surve as Vitthalrao's wife carries the day. Divyendu Sharma as the dashing cop is over the top but he makes us believe that he is for real. Pratik Gandhi is, well, he is OK.

But somehow all this does not compensate for the lack of other elements - it is really all about the script.

Misfire!!

I feel genuinely sad writing this review because I was excited to see a movie based on Indian firefighters. I've watched plenty of foreign firefighter movies and enjoyed most of them. I had high hopes for this one, but unfortunately, it failed to capture the real courage of these heroes.

As VFX artist the fire VFX often felt disconnected from the scenes, and something always seemed "off" during the fire sequences to me. There was a lack of detail, such as specs on metals, sharp shadows and shadow fluctuation because of fire light, which made it feel unconvincing. Although smokes sequences were good. But still it was not the issues which ruined this movie.

If we set aside the lead actors, the performances of the supporting cast-especially those portraying people trapped in the fire-were disappointing. There was no genuine fear or desperation in their acting.

The addition of unnecessary psycho elements and police superiority to evoke sympathy for firefighters felt forced and out of place. It detracted from the focus on their bravery.

Some of the decisions and actions during fire rescue scenes seemed unrealistic, even to me as a layperson. I wonder if the writers or directors consulted actual firefighters or simply based their story on scenes from other firefighter movies.

This movie had so much potential, but sadly, it missed the mark.

Decent one time watch!

Rahul Dholakia's Agni is a heartfelt action thriller spotlighting Mumbai's unsung heroes-firefighters. Pratik Gandhi delivers a compelling performance as Vitthalrao Surve, a firefighter balancing life-threatening duties and personal struggles. Divyenndu shines as a supportive police officer.

The film's gripping rescue sequences and emotional depth are its strengths, though the pacing drags slightly in the middle, and some plot points are predictable. Despite this, Agni is a moving tribute to bravery and sacrifice.

Overall, a decent, emotionally resonant watch on Amazon Prime Video. Would say a must watch, but you won't waste your time if you did.

First movie of firefighters.

This movie is about firefighters of India, this is the first movie which shows how firefighters keep their life in danger to save others life by going into the inferno.

It also shows that firefighters too die in the incidents, I thought their job is easy because they keep precautions before going into the burning buildings but it is not true their life is also in danger.

Rahul Dholakia has done good job in the movie, this is the second best movie after Raees.

Pratik Gandhi and Divyendu Sharma did good acting and the other crew members also has done good acting.

In conclusion this movie you can watch with your friends and family.

Not to be Missed!!!

A novel & noble attempt by the director & entire team to salute the heroic attempts of Fire fighters who risk their lives to protect us but are never praised & always remain in obscurity.

A tight storyline, excellent VFX of the fire scenes, both the main lead actors & their unit, some small comedy in otherwise a serious film...overall highly enjoyable family movie, which is super-rare now-a-days & definitely not to be missed.

The tussle between the two lead actors, a suspense element about the cause of the fire, some comedy, some tragedy...all ingredients are balanced well.

For me, a solid 9!!!

Beautiful and new concept but at the same time a one time watch

Overall-> 6 Story-> 7/10 Acting/Cast-> 8/10 Music/Cinematic-> 6/10 Rewatch Value-> 3/10

From the bottom of my heart i would like to thanks the team behind the movie for bringing the untold stories of our unsung heroes of day to day life. There is no doubt that our society gives way less credit to firefighters than they deserve. Where in foreign countries fire departments are well respected and well equipped, our fire department doesn't get those.

Now coming to the movie, i guess this is the only cinematic art there describing the story of fire department of India. Writers definitely did a good amount of research. This can be seen in the movie. I did find some rescues as unrealistic which might not be possible in real life.

There is no doubt that the team did a good job when it comes to acting. I liked it. But the acting of non cast member like normal citizens were not that great and this is something which we all can accept after all you and me are not the actors.

The special effects could have been better but overall it was good.

The ending was unrealistic but it was okay okay type.

If you ask me for one line comment then: Worth watching one time movie.

An emotionally riveting, character-driven action drama

Agni (2024), directed by Rahul Dholakia and starring Pratik Gandhi, is a stirring tribute to the unsung warriors behind Mumbai's fire lines. Its emotional core, dramatic tension, and standout lead performance combine to deliver a deeply affecting cinematic experience.

In Sanskrit, Agni is the sacred word for fire, not merely the physical element, but a divine force. In the Vedic worldview, Agni is a god, the mouth of the Devtas, the carrier of offerings between heaven and earth. Fire in this context represents purification, transformation, sacrifice, and transcendence. This primal word, Agni, did not stay within India. It journeyed across languages and cultures, leaving its fiery imprint across the ancient world. In Latin, Agni became Ignis, the root of English words like ignite, ignition, and igneous. The idea of fire as energy, spark, or divine light is preserved here.

Interestingly, Agni also echoes through Christian traditions, albeit in more symbolic forms. The Latin word Agnus, meaning "lamb", appears in the sacred term Agnus Dei, the "Lamb of God", a being offered as a sacrifice, often by fire. Even names like Agnes, derived from the Greek Hagne (from Sanskrit Agni) meaning "pure," were later linked to fire through legends of saints martyred by burning, again, fire as a test of purity and transformation.

So when we watch Agni, we are not just watching a firefighter story. We are watching a modern parable of the eternal fire, the one that consumes and purifies, destroys and uplifts. The fire within.

After Scam 1992, Gandhi once again delivers a layered, restrained, and powerful portrayal. As Vitthal Rao Surve, a firefighter torn between duty and family, his presence feels both visceral and authentic. His subtle intensity captures the invisible heroism of those who fight fires without seeking glory.

As one of Bollywood's first films centered on firefighters, Agni shines by portraying the profession with realism and empathy. Through Vithal's journey and his emotional struggle to connect with his son, the film explores what truly defines heroism: spectacle or sacrifice?

The film delves into internal struggles, between public recognition and unseen toil. This dynamic, especially visible in Vithal's fraught relationship with his son who idolizes a "heroic cop" instead, enriches the narrative with true pathos and reflection .

While the emotional stakes remain high, some parts of the conspiracy subplot feel underexplored. A few pacing switch-ups and occasional didactic tones slightly interrupt the flow; but never enough to derail the impact.

Nice tribute to firefighters

This movie is a tribute to all the firefighters who bet on their lives to save other people in the face of blazing fire. These people should be treated as heroes, and they deserve it. However, they are treated as cheap labor in the Indian context. These people are never lauded for their work, despite their work being equally challenging and life-threatening.

The makers try to showcase the lives of the firefighters in the city of Mumbai. This film highlights the challenges faced by them, like no or less insurance, almost zero pension and absolutely zero applaud. However life threatening their activity be, people of other professions are praised and given credit. The VFX fire scenes are very good and seem real. I would recommend everyone to watch this movie as a tribute to these heroes.

Worth to Watch...

First film to portray life of the Fire Fighters. One dialogue was purely correct that no one rememebers fire fighter for their work. They save tons of lives, but no one make any type of effort to appreciate their work. Perfectly shown in this movie. Proper story is going on scene by scene. No doubts about Pratik Gandhi's and Divyendu Sharma's Acting. Son's love for Uncle is shown more than his dad just because of they profession. Arson's twist is awesome. How one person changes after they don't get what they deserve displayed insanely perfect. No need songs for this epic movie. Direction was perfect, screenplay as well. Worth it to watch.

Grounded. Near Perfect Depiction of Issues of Firefighters. One Time Watch. Little Bit Long. Caricature Villain.

Good thing about this movie: 1. Mostly Realistic.

2. One can easily related to emotions and issues of the Main Lead. The frustration of the Main Lead are common to many people who work in big organisation or Government.

3. All the characters are relatable. No fancy hero or heroine covered in makeup.

4. Well researched. Small details show up in the movie scenes.

5. Father Son or Husband Wife dynamics are depicted well.

6. Good production value for such a movie.

7. Excellent Acting

Some Bad things about this movie:

1. Little bit longer than desired. Pacing. Scenes seem stretched.

2. The Villain and His motives are Caricaturish. Realistic film with unrealistic antagonist.

3. Ending seems forced or not well thought out.

Loose in Parts, Yet a Decent Film on Firefighters' Lives

Agni (2024) : Movie Review -

A film based on the life of a firefighter is rare, and Agni is certainly eligible to be called a rare film, at least when considering Bollywood movies. However, one must acknowledge that foreign cinema was ahead in this regard as well. Humphrey Jennings made a British film, "Fires Were Started" (1943), which has received universal acclaim over the years. That film was very realistic and had a war angle, making it more brutal and hard-hitting. Agni is far more fictional and artificial with its theories and can't really be compared since it is set in a completely different world. I somehow can't forget that film, and taking this subject up in our industry somehow teases me about the idea and how to present it from the same English movie. Agni is still very much a decent film except for its fictional liberties, which more or less defame our fire and police departments rather than glorifying them.

Set in Mumbai, Agni tells the story of the chief of a firefighter department, Vitthal (Pratik Gandhi), who is brave but whose own child doesn't give him the respect he deserves. Rather, the child adores his heroic but corrupt inspector uncle, Samit (Divyenndu). There is a conflict between these two, which I'll discuss later, but you can guess what it is. As the number of fire cases rises in the city, Vitthal suspects use of arson and a man who specializes in it, whereas Samit has his own theories and catches one suspect. Will this fire chain end now? As tensions mount and time runs short, the two must put aside their personal differences to solve the mystery and shield Mumbai from a flaming catastrophe.

Rahul Dholakia and Vijay Maurya are experienced enough to write a decent story, and they do exactly that. However, the screenplay doesn't really justify those conflicts. I don't understand the obsession of some people with defaming the government or any of its departments, which tirelessly work for us. At the end, you have to salute their work just to satisfy your fictional liberties, and the fact that they can't be blamed at all. Also, this conflict of someone's hatred against the system while being a part of it (the main villain in the story) is too hectic and illogical at a time when investigations have advanced so significantly; it has become a cliché already. Coincidentally, I live on Senapati Bapat Road (the one mentioned in the film), and there was a club/restaurant that caught fire a couple of years ago in Lower Parel (owned by a Bollywood celebrity), where my younger brother used to work, so I could relate to the tension and heroic gestures. Yet, something was missing that was needed for the screen extravaganza, and you can't really feel that on a small screen.

In terms of performances, it was a satisfying experience. Pratik Gandhi has done well, even though he lacked the Marathi manus vibes in his dialogues, accent, and body language. He comes off as very Gujju while portraying his true self on screen, making it difficult to accept him in another character that doesn't have many layers. Jeetendra Joshi's psycho nature is surprising; however, having seen his brilliant works on stage, especially in "Don Special," I know he could have done much better. Divyyendu also performs adequately in his role, and it's refreshing to see a rich police officer in a realistic movie after a while, but did he really need to be corrupt and so shameless about it? A more decent character would have fit better, I suppose. Saie Tamhankar appeared genuine as a Marathi housewife, while Sakhi Gokhale was decent despite portraying an overly urbanized housewife. The rest of the supporting cast provided decent support.

The technical aspects of "Agni" deserved improvement-not to enhance the film, but to add intensity to the visual texture. "Fires Were Started" feels genuinely burning and hot in black-and-white, but I couldn't sense that heat here in color. The background score does not fit well, and the cinematography falls short with those repetitive zoomed-in shots of fire (in yellow, red, and blue shades), though the production design was quite acceptable. It did not resemble a low-grade picture at any moment, nor did it contain any awkward cut-in frames. Rahul Dholakia attempts to create a convincing narrative and succeeds at times while failing at others. The concept of a personal conflict between a cop and a firefighter isn't particularly appealing. The film becomes too personal, losing its formal connection as a heroic story. Rahul's emotional quotient is effective, which is crucial, but the human drama falls flat in many scenes. Overall, it is a decent film that loses momentum in parts but keeps you engaged for two hours.

Story With A Purpose

The movie carries a pure, sincere core, portraying firefighters, celebrating their bravery and sacrifices with a narrative that flows effortlessly. The pairing of Pratik Gandhi and Divyenndu Sharma is unexpectedly satisfying, with Pratik's calm, steady portrayal contrasting beautifully with Divyenndu's fiery, unpredictable energy.

The female leads, Saiyami Kher and Sai Tamhankar, also shine. Saiyami exudes strength and determination, commanding the screen with her presence, while Sai Tamhankar's portrayal brings depth and emotional resonance to the narrative. The entire cast delivers performances that felt grounded and genuine.

Agni is a pure, emotionally resonant film that boosts pride in its heroes while telling their story with a purpose.
