I had never heard about this 2023 Indonesian comedy drama titled "Why Do You Love Me" from director Herwin Novianto prior to stumbling upon it by random chance on Netflix. And with my love of Asian cinema, and with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give the movie a chance.
And I will have to say that I am glad that I took 84 minutes out of my schedule to sit down and watch this movie, because writers Alim Sudio and Pierre De Clercq really put together a rather good and enjoyable script and storyline. It was a rather heartfelt, warm and enjoyable story that sank right in. I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the entire movie. And there was just something unique and very down to Earth about the entire premise of the script and storyline. And it was very easy to get submerged into the narrative and ride along with Baskara, Danton, Miko and Endang on their way to fulfill a dream.
The acting performances in "Why Do You Love Me" were good, and the leading actors Adipati Dolken (playing Baskara), Jefri Nichol (playing Danton), Onadio Leonardo (playing Miko) and leading actress Tj Ruth (playing Endang) really carried the movie phenomenally with their performances and bringing the characters to life on the screen.
If you enjoy dramas laced with comedy of the type that hit home and deliver a beautiful story, then "Why Do You Love Me" is well-worth sitting down to watch.
My rating of "Why Do You Love Me" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

This is a very sweet movie. I just wish they did not waste so much time on the lives of the boys at home in the 1st part of the movie. I think it was too detailed and showed the bad acting of actors who played the role of their parents. Instead more of their time on the road should have been shown - their travels, ,the interaction of the four travellers, their food, their touring around the cities they visited etc would have made the movie less boring. Maybe a bit more focus on Endang's life as she plays a pivotal role in the movie. Baskara was an irritating character, a bit over acted I thought, but Danton and Miko and of course Endang were very likeable. The subject matter may be a bit uncomfortable for some but the way it as portrayed in the movie made it rather cute and not obscene at all.
The soundtrack in the movie was really very good too!

When you know that the story is not new, you look at the film differently.
Adaptation takes place only for the country and time.
Therefore, the initial work deserves great applause. And subsequent works should pay tribute to the author of the first story. Rather than making money from his ideas and work.
But when cinema is not given worldwide distribution, how could it be otherwise?
Let them work better with sound and speech transmission. And any movie product, we would be able to understand and see. And not so that one story is changed dozens of times, but only with the help of decorations and faces.
That's how you make money, but you don't belong in culture.
