One reviewer for this show clearly hated it. They describe it as 'despicable, detestable, deplorable desecration of Walt Disney's early works'. I can certainly understand WHY they felt that way, as the animation style is NOTHING like the classic Disney characters and it seems pretty cheap at first. And, I can certainly understand WHY they felt this way because the characters were doing many things that would make Walt spin in his grave like a rotisserie. Imagine having episodes with a zombie Goofy, Mickey and Donald trying to hide their nudity, dogs urinating, bites being bitten off Mickey's ear and a lot of very un-Disney-like violence!! It IS shocking and I could see how a purist would blanch at such things. However, I am NOT a Disney purist. Sure, I love the old cartoons but will quickly admit that Mickey's old cartoons were awfully sanitized--a bit too sanitized if you ask me. Rarely did Mickey have any sort of edge--that was left to Donald and, sometimes, Goofy. But here, Mickey is a rather impish character--more like you'd see in the very, very early Mickey cartoons and not the sweet and 100% wholesome guy you'd see in the 1930s to today! While the art style takes some getting used to, I can look past the cheap look. More importantly, as I sat and watched these cartoons during a recent Disney cruise (where they pipe them into the rooms), I found myself laughing louder than I ever have before with a cartoon. Imagine blending a bit of "Ren & Stimpy" with Mickey--that is what you'll find in "Mickey Mouse" (2013). I love them and want more!
You don't expect a mega-monopoly company like Disney to do anything even a little bit far out, and they usually don't, but this excellent animation series dares to be silly and utilize a unique and beautiful (funny) art style. Actually it goes back to the roots of Disney animation because it's funny and not prudish and uptight like most Disney stuff quite soon turned into! (Ironically the creator of the series is named P.Rudish).
In my opinion this is the best thing they've done in a long time, it's so good it almost redeems Disney slightly for shutting down their traditional animation feature department. There's about ten episodes available on Youtube where I live and I laughed out loud several times in every episode and was amazed by the beautiful backgrounds and funny drawn characters. (I wonder when they will make the full series available in the Nordic countries).

I'm not a kid. But I totally imagine being a kid and getting greatly amused by this new version of Mickey Mouse, when my kids watch it.
I'm not kidding, the new 'Mickey' series is like a tribute to arguably the most recognizable icons of animation, the mouse himself, Mickey! While some may believe that the modernized humor strays far from Mickey Mouse's original charm, but I think it's all the same.
The originals were known for their unusual, humorous situations, and tongue-in-cheek, purely slapstick, humor. It made a kid revel in the character of Mickey Mouse, the energetic, genuinely funny cartoon mouse.
And if you look at the new interpretation, it's pretty much the same. Same funny situations, same funny outcomes, and most importantly, same funny character. Just look at Mickey, derping around. Mickey's all about having a good time, and that's what this show shows perfectly.
I can't compare this with the originals, because of the modernized sense of humor, but still, this is the show for the generation. My kids love this show, and I do too, and for darn good reasons.

I have to disagree with the negative critics here - if you know the personalities and zany spirit of the animators at Disney early on - these feel dead on. I can especially see Ward Kimball loving these.
This is *not* the Mickey and friends from the era where Mickey had been softened and made completely safe because he needed to be a protected corporate asset - these are the guys who were completely bonkers and stole people's hearts in the first place.
If you enjoy the *spirit* of the early cartoons, and can handle something classic being updated to fit with current times, then these are entirely delightful.
