Vigilante

A fresh plot concept, which makes the main character a "Vigilante" someone who enforces the law in his own way because the justice system is weak against criminals.

The initial episode is quite exciting and tense, a policeman who turns into a "Vigilante". The Vigilante himself is someone who enforces the law in his own way even though sometimes his method violates the rules of law because the justice system fails him when criminals get a short sentence and are released, that's why the main character becomes a punisher. Towards people who commit criminal acts. This impulse begins with the desire to avenge the crime committed by a thug which resulted in his mother's death. I don't know if a genre like this makes the audience more enthusiastic than a romance story whose ending is easy to predict and ends like that, I hope there are more Korean dramas like this.

Enjoyable - unlike Marvel

I discovered this series on Disney+, without having heard anything about it. I don't really like any of the Marvel series I have watched. This one has a different approach. I don't know exactly what it is, but it doesn't burn out after introducing the general character of the (anti-)hero. The presentation of the protagonist's every day live is really enjoyable, and not too generic or boring/dramatic. At the time I write this, there are only 6 episodes or so - so I can only speak for them. It might dry out in the next episodes, it might not. Time will tell. Until then, I definitely recommend it to those who are interested in the vigilante type of story.

Fast paced, thrilling roller coaster ride

What an incredible drama to close 2023 with a bang, clash and whack!!! I could not stop watching and was impatient for each episode to come out by week.

Joo Hyuk, Ji-Tae, Jun-Hyuk meshed well together as avengers, law-abiding officer & serious but fun loving chaebol who decides to throw his gauntlet in with the crime fighter. Their screen presence is amazing and brings the whole story together with their male bonding as brothers - first at war with each other then, united to defeat the true criminals - the law breakers, the corrupt officials at every level of civil service.

Joi Hyuk ssi is portraying how capable he is as an actor given any role, he plays the character so realistically, almost merges into that role as if he were actually that person. In awe of his acting and hope to see him in more challenging roles. Ji-Tae is, of course, the sunbaenim here and shows his seniority and experience so easily and with such skill. I also like JunHyuk - seeing him for first time in this drama and hope to see more of him in others.

Overall - one classy end to 2023 for me.

Please ensure Season 2 starts in the new year. I just can't wait.

It's so freaking the best drama and the best 2023 action drama I have ever watched

I really recommend to watch it if u like action series. I am so in love with Nam Joo Hyuk character and I truly wish it will come out season 2 with great stories like this season 1. He always ended up being in Kdrama like romance so first I worried that he won't fit in this action hero character. But I was wrong cuz it turns out it's one of the best character for Nam Joo Hyuk.

Without a doubt this series is the best action webtoon series in Disney + and just watch till the end. I can assure one thing that this will make u so hype like hero without superpower who works for people. U will feel revenge, the best fighting, unlike other kdrama series. 10 out of 10.

We need Nam Joo Hyuk in NYC and SF! Save us!

This feel good action series grips from the first scene. Love the battle between those on the vigilante's side and the villains.

This series feels so real and emotionally involving because of the thugs terrorizing New York and San Francisco now beating up old ladies and pushing people in front of subway trains. All repeat offenders let out to murder again and again by woke politicians and DAs. The case for vigilantism is made out here.

What a fantastic cast. Nam Joo Hyuk's boyish face makes the vigilante sympathetic. Yoo Ji Tae gained so much weight to play the tough guy cop. Lee Joon Hyuk always the best supporting actor from City Hunter to this role.

This is an excellent series. Sharp and to the point and with terrific meaningful action.

Vigilante - the start of something new spectacular in kdrama land

Intro / Reminder :- It's a story about crime and vigilantism and has lot of not so right minded characters. Its about evil fighting the more bigger evil.. and became an evil with fighting against evil..

Short synopsis:- "Vigilante" is an action thriller in which Kim Ji-yong ( Nam Joo-hyuk), who lives as a "Vigilante" who defends the law during the day, judges criminals who have avoided the law at night, and people with different purposes face each other fiercely.

Detailed Analysis:- If you're a fan of intense dramas with a gripping plot, well-developed characters, and an thought-provoking exploration of moral complexities, then The vigilante is a must-watch.

Excellent and Wow. That's all I can say. I was freaked out about this drama, because I loved the first two episodes. After reading 25 episodes of webtoon I had high expectations. And it exceeded those And truly the Best drama to bring a webtoon so chillingly and realistically to real life ife.

The acting was excellent, The action was good the action here is based more on suspense and violence. The story was great. The characters were diverse and interesting. However, the drama does not only deal with the catharsis of crime and punishment. It makes the viewer think constantly about the justice system.

Criminals getting away from the law is a problem that the show brings up, and vigilantes need to step up and do something about it. There are important questions that this brings up about the legal system and how people can help keep the peace.

Nam Joo-hyuk :- Nam Joo-hyuk, who is challenging the action genre for the first time in his life through 'Vigilante', to create realistic and realistic action, he received weight training, boxing, judo, and martial arts, he lived in his character role here "The law has a hole. Now I'll fill the hole. With the line, "This is justice," he shows charismatic appearance, armed with intense action and cool eyes that punish criminals with a deep black hood.. his black hood and police uniform, create a completely different atmosphere, making us look forward to his first action thriller completed with his delicate and detailed acting.

Other departments :- The cast is full of top quality actors including Nam Joo-hyuk, Yoo Ji Tae, Kim So Jin, Lee Joon Hyuk The Remarkable Direction, Cinematography, Music and the Acting, editing, sound, score, visuals, and action are all top notch.

Direction:- Despite being Choi Jeong Yeol's first drama, he handled it very well. The drama showed his potential in 4 episodes, which is enough to anticipate more entertainment from the next episodes..

Conclusion :- Vigilante, the intriguing webtoon adaptation that offers a unique twist on the vigilante genre, blending character development with intense action, making it a must-watch for fans of action and thrillers and exploration of complex moral themes.. ( Personal Review )

Enjoyable action thriller

Yesterday finished another kdrama......'Vigilante'

Based on webtoon of same name, this - "Vigilante" is an action thriller in which Kim Ji-yong ( Nam Joo-hyuk), who is a diligent student of Police academy by day, serves justice as vigilante to innocents on weekends.

Predictable vigilante story yet enjoyable, this intense drama has many well-known actors, who performed well. Action scenes are superb, specially hand to hand combat sequences. Drama has strong, whimsical female character.

Drama has some plotholes though.

Nam Joo-hyuk transforms himself into ferocious beast, his voice modulation as vigilante, body language & action is something to look for. Yoo Ji-tae is amazing as always. Lee Joon-hyuk surprised me, liked him.

My Nam again proved his versatility.

A huge win for kdrama for 2023.

Power-packed, pulsating, dark drama about a vigilante who gives his own justice. Firstly, the main lead is my second favorite kdrama actor and what a awesome actor he is. Vulnerable in his portrayal yet dominating in his execution. I loved watching start-up and couldn't stop watching this actor. The drama itself, the writing is top notch. The music is a thrill and gives you goosebumps. This is like taxi driver 2.0. I had to write a review because of the actor and drama. 2023 was not a good year for kdrama since most of it is predictable and passable. Nothing really interesting about these shows released. They are all lame, dull, and very unrealistic, loud, and noisy. Anyways, watch the pilot and you'll know what I am saying.

A common man's take on Judicial system

An adrenaline rush, Vigilante stands as one of the better originals Disney+ has put out this year. Not a single second of the K-drama is never really wasted on filler or unnecessary scenes.

Although not exactly an innovative premise, Vigilante is still worth a watch: if not for the expertly choreographed fight scenes and masterful cinematography, then probably to reflect on the judicial system and what it truly stands for. The acting was decent and the action was good which was based more on suspense and violence. The story was great. The characters were diverse and interesting l, although the message delivery could have been more impactful.

My Rating : 7/10.

Amazing drama

Complete drama, perfect casting, perfect acting, perfect expressions, perfect story, perfect direction, perfect music, wonderful sequence of events, a wonderful series in all respects that will be classified as one of the best series of 2023 by Disney. It's a series worth the wait, the promotion, and the budget. The series has proven its worth from the first two episodes alone! What will happen in the next six episodes? This is really exciting and all the actors are great in their roles. I couldn't imagine Nam Joo Hyuk in an action series! Director Choi Jong Yeol's choices are really great. He chose great actors for the role. The story is really great and proves that the law is a money game.

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' Vigilante '' is a webtoon-based action drama.

The theme of the drama is quite interesting, and there are a lot of crime cases that are dark and intense. The antihero twist was also nicely handled, and the performances of the main leads were strong enough to support the plot.

However, the drama suffered from its short length. Halfway through, things started getting rushed and the story didn't develop as smoothly as it should. At least the action scenes were enjoyable and nicely choreographed and embended in the story.

So, overall, six out of ten for the Korean Drama '' Vigilante ''.

Great drama !

Great actors, acting, great soundtrack. One of the best crime dramas I saw lately. Big plus for Disney channel. Can't await next episodes. Some scenes I don't understand, why the the Bang killed only the one reporter, and let her - Choi- run away, even if he is fast killer machine. He is killing by order, I don't think he had an order to kill only one of both... and let her run away with the cam with all evidence. And she come hours later back, instead of calling immediately the police and emergency to save the colleague... but, as female lead.. of course, she probably shouldn't be killed in some early episode. Just this scene doesn't make much sense for me.

Crimes should be punished by crimes. Because this is my calling. The calling that's perfect for me: to become a devil to kill other devils...

I am obsessed with the premise of this series! What a powerful statement and what a sad reality that the law is so flawed that many times it protects criminals rather than victims.

And after watching Moving and The Worst of Evil I have to say I got a bit excited seeing the announcement of Vigilante. I expected too much and then the disappointment hit. There is nothing wrong with using the same old antihero revenge concept if you are bringing something new fresh and intriguing but this wasn't it AT ALL.

If you are like me and absolutely adore series like Daredevil, Dexter, The Punisher, Taxi Driver etc... this one will feel like a bunch of predictable clichés, at best.

Don't get me wrong, the series is well made, the action and fight choreography is excellent, pace is fast and engaging, plot is good and acting is top notch but every single scene and character felt like a cheap remake of something we have seen many times before.

Regarding the actors, two to mention:

Nam Joo Hyuk nailed his of the Vigilante in a more mature and emotional role before his enlistment, you can also notice how hard he has trained and transformed physically for this, amazing work.

And Yoo Ji Tae who I am used to watch in more candid roles like When My love Blooms or even Healer) and surprised me a lot with this rough and militant character.

Overall If you haven't watched many antihero revenge series you will absolutely love this one, if you have, skip this one, it will bore you to death.

Whats with the broadcaster Choi Miryeo's character?

I mean, come on. There's so much overreacting and unnecessary story slanting on her part. I found her character and whatever scenes and scenarios she's been a part of to be extremely annoying, tepid, uncanny, and overbearing.

Apart from her character and the directorial faults, the show is kinda digestible. If the director wanted to make a character like that more enjoyable, then at least paint her with a reality brush, not with over-the-top hound dog barking in every scene and spewing nonsense like she owns half of Seoul.

I really feel that K-dramas of the past few years were slightly more mature and had relatable characters. Especially since they started making TV shows out of webtoons, their quality has gone down drastically.

Seriously underrated

I'm amazed how this show isn't talked about and I'm an avid kdrama viewer. It's been a while since I have written a review for a kdrama but this one deserves it and more people need to watch and talk about it.

For starters, this is nothing like the kdrama we are used to, I don't remember if I have ever seen a kdrama like this before, no name comes to my mind, this doesn't have any romance, this doesn't have any emotional rollercoaster, it follows an easy to understand plot about a young police academy student who suffered injustice at the hands of the law, the same one he's about to take an oath of. Thus he recognises that law has several cracks and it often doesn't punish the criminals even after they are caught, so he becomes the 'vigilante', punishes those who have escaped the law and doesn't repent, and boy he punishes them brutally.

What I absolutely love about the show, is how he never dresses up, from hoodie to mask to costume. No he doesn't have any hero complex or need to upgrade, he's straight minded, and only cares about punishing the criminals wearing a simple hoodie throughout.

I was a little sceptical about Nam Joo hyuk, not about the acting, but will he fit in a daunting physical role, but boy he packed a punch, his punches appear to be so powerful on screen that you know the other guy has broken a bone or 2 atleast in single punch, and credit to the team and NJH to achieve that effect, as base punch music adds a lot of power everytime he hits. That's a really impactful direction and action done.

The music and songs for the show deserves a credit on it's own, it's brilliant, thrilling, and dark at times, just like the theme of the show. It's very engaging and perfectly fits the tone of the scenes and the show.

The acting was crisp, except the actress who played the reporter, she overacted in couple of scenes, but apart from that everyone is crisp and to the point, especially NJH, his face expressions are so sharp and truly defines the character, he doesn't go overboard, doesn't become emotionally involved, he perfectly plays the character, a guy who has nothing to lose and doesn't care about anything except punishing the criminals and saving the weak and innocent part of the society.

There are no damsel in distress plots, there's no child trauma driving the hero, yes he suffered as someone killed his mom, but he doesn't linger on that emotion, he doesn't give justification for his actions and never doubts on what he's doing, he has no grey areas in his mind, it's all black and white to him.

Overall I absolutely loved this show, if this was an American or some other country show I probably would have rated it around 8. But it deserves a 10 in the kdrama world, it's refreshing, it's engaging, it's ruthless, bloody and doesn't shy away from letting our hero kill the bad guys. I binged all the 8 episodes. And if there's a second season coming, I wouldn't wait a day after it's released.

A must watch !!

Not simpleton, not excellent, but a notch above pedestrian

First thought in the middle of episode one was, this is moving so fast, how far is the plot going?

First thought after 4th episode, this feels like a reworked version Death Note.

The theme has been done thousands of times. This one is just more organized. You can see the multiple mentors knowing what's going on but either accepting the Vigilante or try to steer the antagonist to a different path.

The crime gets bigger and more organized, and thus our anti hero(s) became more obsessed. The climax to me was the confrontation under the bridge when the big muscular cop talk/discuss/fight with the main lead.

The main argument is similar to another Korean show a few years back, Juvenile Justice. The point was justice should focus/help more towards the victim rights, then defendants rights. And of course punishment should fit the crime, especially for reoffenders.

Is that the answer? To fight violence with violence?

It's a rhetorical question.

There is definitely a part 2 coming.

A New Take on an Old Theme

I loved this show! Despite the violence, the underlying story, copycat and cop corruption/justice storyline it was really well done. Loved the main actor and reporter. Highly recommended! I saw the main actor Nam Ju-Hyuk in 2521 which was a bittersweet story. He has chops! And pretty easy on the eyes. It was nice to see Yoo Ji-Tae as well. Have not seen anything with him in it since Healer. Such a different role! And Yoon Kyung Ho from Gangnam B-Side. Love this actor. He's so versatile. I love kdramas that have a few side stories which this one did. The reporter was so impressive. Played by Kim So-jin. Perfectly cast. I also enjoyed the twist in the tale. Keep up the great work Korea!

Vigilante

If you're a fan of K-dramas that go beyond romance and slice-of-life tropes, Vigilante might just be the one for you. Recently, I binge-watched this intense thriller over a long weekend, and it left me hooked from start to finish. With its dark themes, gripping plot, and thought-provoking premise, Vigilante pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling, forcing viewers to question the line between justice and vengeance.

Plot Overview: A Story of Vigilante Justice At the heart of Vigilante is Kim Ji Yong, portrayed masterfully by Nam Joo Hyuk, who leads a double life. By day, he is a disciplined police academy student; by night, a cold and calculated vigilante hunting down criminals who have slipped through the cracks of the justice system. What drives him? His mother's brutal murder and the frustratingly lenient punishment her killer received. This injustice ignites a fire in Ji Yong leading him to take matters into his own hands.

The show's premise is built on moral ambiguity, asking tough questions about the justice system. Can an individual take the law into their own hands? Is it possible for personal vengeance to masquerade as justice? These questions create a tense, introspective narrative long after the final credits roll.

Nam Joo Hyuk's Powerful Performance What truly makes Vigilante stand out is Nam Joo Hyuk's performance. Known for more lighthearted roles in the past, his portrayal of Kim Ji Yong marks his first venture into the world of action, and he doesn't disappoint. His character is brooding, driven, and haunted by his past. Every time he slips into his black hood, you can feel the intensity and urgency of his mission.

Nam Joo Hyuk underwent intense training for the fight scenes, and it shows. The choreography is gritty and raw, focusing less on glamour and more on the realism of street fights. The tension during these moments keeps you on edge, as the violence is never gratuitous, but serves as a reminder of the stakes involved in Ji Yong's dangerous double life.

Supporting Cast: Adding Complexity to the Narrative The show's supporting characters add even more depth to the plot. Lee Jun Hyuk plays Jo Kang Ok, a morally ambiguous character whose partnership with Ji Yong keeps you guessing about his true motives. The dynamic between them is tense, shifting from reluctant allies to something more complex as the story progresses.

Meanwhile, Detective Jo Heon, portrayed by Yoo Ji Tae, is hot on Ji Yong's trail. His pursuit of the vigilante adds a thrilling cat-and-mouse element to the plot, as Ji Yong must constantly outwit the very system he's training to serve.

Themes of Justice and Morality What sets Vigilante apart from other action-packed K-dramas is its exploration of deeper themes. The show raises difficult questions: What happens when the law fails its citizens? Is vigilante justice justified, or does it only perpetuate more violence and suffering?

This isn't just a show about taking down bad guys-it's a deep dive into the psyche of a man who has lost faith in the justice system. The story forces you to reflect on how far someone should go to correct the wrongs they've endured and whether or not Ji Yong's path is one of redemption or destruction.

Cinematography and Direction: Visually Striking From a visual standpoint, Vigilante is top-notch. The direction and cinematography beautifully complement the dark and brooding tone of the story. There's a gritty realism in every shot, from the dimly lit back alleys where Ji Yong hunts his targets to the claustrophobic spaces where he confronts his inner demons. The pacing, especially in the first half of the series, is tight and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Flaws: Pacing and the Need for More Closure While this show shines in many areas, it has some flaws. The middle episodes of the drama slow down a bit, and at times, the plot feels like it's spinning its wheels rather than moving forward. Additionally, the ending left me wanting more-some storylines, particularly the resolution of Ji Yong's arc, could have used more closure. As a Fan of the webtoon, I felt the adaptation falls short in wrapping up certain aspects, but the overall journey is still worth the ride.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Watch for Fans of Dark Thrillers In the end, Vigilante is a solid entry in the action-thriller genre, offering a thought-provoking narrative that challenges viewers to think critically about justice, vengeance, and morality. It's not your typical feel-good K-drama-it's darker, grittier, and dives into complex themes that stay with you long after you finish watching.

If you're a fan of action-packed shows that keep you thinking about the gray areas between right and wrong, this is a must-watch. Even though the ending may leave you craving more, Nam Joo Hyuk's stellar performance with the show's moral dilemmas and intense action scenes makes this a drama worth your time.

One of the best for story and acting

I have to say that this is one of my favorite kdrama. There is absolutely no boring part and every plot and character feels important. The story brings up how injustice is always around us, and that staying in silence won't bring justice. It shows how reality really is, how weak people can't stand up for themselves and that the law won't always protect them. Nam Joo Hyuk acting is marvelous. I can't think of a better word to describe how amazing it is. He was able to potray the character feelings and emotion about everything that's going around. I haven't read the webtoon but I can tell this one was a good adaption. I hope I can watch something like this again.

A Stirring Series That Echoes the Cry for Justice

Vigilante isn't just another action-packed K-drama-it's a wake-up call wrapped in powerful storytelling. It explores deep questions about justice, morality, and the limits of the law, all through a gripping plot and a lead character you can't help but wrestle with emotionally.

As someone who's been in a season of sleepless nights and constant inner restlessness, this series hit differently. It stirred something in me-a hunger for truth, a reflection on right and wrong, and a reminder that even in chaos, conviction can be a light.

If you're in a space where you're searching for something raw, thought-provoking, and intense yet somehow still relatable, Vigilante might be exactly what your soul needs. It's not just entertainment-it's an experience.

And yes, I'm already counting down the days to Season 2-good thing I only discovered it a few months before the rumored release. Hohoo! The timing couldn't have been more perfect. ✊🏼🖤

Dark, Intense, and Full of Thrills: Vigilante Will Keep You On The Edge of Your Seat

Vigilante is a gripping, action-packed drama that dives deep into the world of justice and revenge. The story follows Kim Ji-yong, a police officer by day and a vigilante by night, as he takes matters into his own hands to fight the criminal underworld. It's a dark, thrilling ride where the lines between right and wrong get blurred, and you can't help but question what true justice really is.

What makes Vigilante stand out is how complex and morally gray its characters are. Kim Ji-yong's internal struggle between his duty as an officer and his desire for vengeance adds a lot of emotional weight to the story. The show doesn't shy away from showing the consequences of vigilantism, making it not just about action, but also about the emotional and ethical toll of taking the law into your own hands.

The pacing is fast, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked. The action scenes are intense, and the stakes are high, but what really keeps you watching is the suspense-what's going to happen next? Will Kim Ji-yong go too far? The tension builds up episode after episode, and it doesn't let up.

If you're into shows that explore the darker side of justice with action, suspense, and thought-provoking moral dilemmas, Vigilante is a must-watch. It's a high-stakes drama that makes you think while keeping you glued to the screen.
