Charming Show

This is what I call a "laundry folding show." Put it on, turn off your brain, and just enjoy yourself while you fold your laundry on the coffee table. That's this to a tee. Very light and fun. If this were on Netflix, it'd be a big hit. It reminded me of No Good Deed on Netflix.

My one complaint is that the constant, and I mean constant, cutting back and forth between the two timelines is a bit overdone and distracting. I wish there was less of that because you can lose track of the character beats depending on the timeline. But that aside, it's great. Melissa Fumero is the MVP. Great to see her play a completely different character form her role on Brooklyn 911.

I really like it

I really like that show (so far/up to episode 9) and it is really creative. You really have to endure episode one, because it's really confusing with the introduction of all the people and sometimes you don't know who is who and what their relations are/were. Maybe that's just a "me problem".

Episode two is gradually elevating that series.

It's basically - if you can compare those - "Desperate Housewives" and "Why Women Kill". If you loved those series then this one is for you.

The characters are so over the top sometimes but it's part of the story. The story telling is also new: 6 months before and 6 months after. You get several glimpses into the future and switch back to the present. It's a good concept. Even how they visually announce that.

🗿🗿🗿🗿 (as a proof I have seen episode 9)

Grosse Point Garden Society: An easy watch

We're only a few episodes in, but so far, this show is pretty good. The pacing is strong, it never drags, and it doesn't veer into anything over-the-top. It's not trying to be ground-breaking, it's just fun, light, and easy to settle into.

The story moves well, and there's just enough intrigue in each episode to keep you coming back. It's a good story with a glossy style. The characters have their own sexy appeal, and the tone strikes a nice balance.

That said, this show isn't for everyone. If you're looking for high drama or big twists, this ain't it. Even though this show is a bit cheesy and campy, the characters are a little shallow and one-dimensional, it works for what it is. It's the kind of show that's easy to settle into at the end of the day without feeling like a chore to follow.

I wouldn't call it a must-watch or addictive, but it fills a nice gap between overly heavy dramas and throwaway background shows. For me, it's off to a pretty good start.

Desperate Housewives meets HTGAWM

I agree with a previous reviewer this is campy like desperate housewives and also is a "Temu" version of HTGAWM. The back and forth between present day and 6 months is the only thing making it interesting - and yet confusing at the same time. I lost interest mid-way through episode two and had to force myself to watch to the end. Aja Naomi King is giving Emmy worthy performance but the Other characters are just meh. Alice's relationship is unbelievable. And we are living with greedy rich people taking over the country in real life - I don't want to also watch it for entertainment value on my screen.

Mixed feelings

I was excited when I saw this show was coming. I'm a big fan of the kinda cheesy, kinda dark murder mystery genre. The idea sounded intriguing, someone is murdered but who is it? The first episode was good. But now 4 episodes in and it's losing its luster. The constant timeline changes can be confusing. And it if I'm honest, the main characters are not very likeable. I can't stand a character that constantly gets in their own way and is completely oblivious how their behavior affects everyone else. "Alice" springs to mind. The other characters have equally annoying traits.

I like how it's filmed, the scenery, the small town feel.

I wanted to love it, but right now mehh.

Why the bad reviews??

I just don't understand the bad reviews here. I love this show! It's one of our new favorites. There are so many twists and turns, and it's very suspenseful. It does remind me a lot of HTGAWM, which was another favorite. I like the quirky characters and the writing. The actors are good in their roles. The back and forth and way they present the time frame are interesting to me. Soooo many hateful, cruel people you can see why someone got murdered! Someone else recommended to me, and I'm glad I listened. Always ends on a cliffhanger, leaving you waiting for more. And I just can't wait til next episode!

HTGAWM knockoff?

Why is this just screaming a TEMU version of How To Get Away With Murder? Am I the only one feeling this? And no it's not just because of Aja Naomi King being in both. But it's giving that energy but less well done. Idk, I'm two episodes in and it might lose me. Why is it so cheesy? The only positive is the curiosity it causes I guess and the way the show the timeframe with the unique ways of says "present day", "6 months later", etc. That's cute but not enough.

Overall it's meh. I guess worth watching if there is nothing else on but might be better off watching old seasons of How To Get Away With Murder. At least that has Viola Davis.

Interesting Show

I really like this new show! It keeps me laughing in parts along with the dark murder mystery. It doesn't take itself too seriously . I like the fact that we know who the murderers are but not the who they murdered or why. I also like the interplay between the main characters . I did find the time differences a bit confusing in the first episode , but I did get used to the time switches in the following episodes ( and it was fun looking for the clever notices of the time switch in the scenes). It reminds me a bit of " Desperate Housewives" which was one of my favorite shows back in the day, so that is a compliment. All in all I think it's a good show that is a bit different from what is currently on tv.

If change to Friday nights now:

The show was not for me, but a soap opera like show, and not procedural is unique now. The creators did Good Girls also, was it not on Sundays too?

If the show is officially cancelled on NBC; There will usually some waiting time on either or for Peacock with announcement, time will tell. It would be great for viewers remaining to get mystery revelation 100 solved. Perhaps show is different mystery each season?

To the final point: Some showrunners, writers, production will be 'oh so kind' to tell how was to end. Rarely happens, so if axed, get on your media to ask for such? I hope it gets move!

There Then Gone

I saw Aja Naomi King's image pop up as I was surfing. I wondered about the cast of HTGAWM as I found it to be one of my favorite shows. I found this gem and gave it a try. I was hooked immediately. I came for Aja but got Melissa Fumero AND Nancy Travis (who I always love seeing on screen), and I was happy and intrigued. The story caught me, and I needed to know. But around episode 9, they lost me. I stopped caring; the characters became unlikable. And the situations were either too ridiculous or too convenient. I checked out, and it became background noise by episodes 12 and 13. What had a lot of potential for me fell flat on its face by the end. Cliche and unlikable.

Disjointed timelines are confusing

This could really be a good show, but the constant flashbacks and flash forwards make it nearly impossible to follow. I don't know why writers believe that disjointed timelines are great, because in my opinion, they make it more difficult to watch. Seems to be a trend with writing these days, but this show takes it to a whole other level. It's like the writers are trying to take a bunch of tik tok videos and call it a story. I do like the actors and how they portray their characters, but if the writing is terrible there's only so much they can do. It is possible to create a sense of urgency without all the time jumps. I had to slog through the second episode. I'll give it one more episode before I decide to pull the plug or not.

So Much Fun!

This show is perfect for unwinding from the week Sunday night. It's a fun mystery with juicy storylines and so great comedy moments to balance out the drama. Each episode ends on such an exciting cliffhanger that adds more evidence towards the mystery and intrigue to see who is Quiche. My friends and I have fun at the end of each episode going through our theories of who Quiche could be. I'm left at the end of each episode wanting to spend more time with these characters and see what shenanigans they get up to next. It's such a blast and I can't wait to see where the rest of the episodes go from here!

Could be good, but annoying

I think the show could be good. The actors were good, the storyline is interested. But there is one big issue with it. The constant changing of time. It makes it difficult to follow when and where things are happening. I really like the personalities involved, that they're all brought together by this one club. I like their dynamic too. But when a single episode changes times a half dozen times, I start to lose interest, especially if you're not paying super close attention to it and miss the sign that the time changed again. I like the mystery idea of not knowing who was murdered and wish I could keep going with the show. But it has a major flaw that was just too much.

wanted to like it more

Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Alice (AnnaSophia Robb), Brett (Ben Rappaport), and Catherine (Aja Naomi King) are members of a suburban garden club. High flying Birdie crashed her car and sentenced to community service. Alice is a high school teacher who would rather do something else. Pushover Brett caught his wife cheating. Real estate agent Catherine can't get her husband's attention. The show starts with the foursome burying a body.

The jumping around the timeline is a problem. It does tend to lose me every once in awhile. This is generally fine and is elevated by the lovely cast. I want to like this show more, but the structure is the main sticking point. The story is not that complicated, but the flow feels disjointed. The show keeps pulling the audience back and forth in time. One has to keep track of the timeline at all times. I just think that a straight story telling would function better.

This is MY show!

What a delightful show with a fresh cast! It's refreshing to see such a diverse range of family dynamics portrayed. The characters are engaging, and I love how the narrative jumps between timelines. The use of labels like "present day" on various props is a smart way to keep things organized. I'm eagerly awaiting the big reveal! I also appreciate that the tone of the show is upbeat and light, without venturing into anything too heavy or unsettling. The witty dialogue adds a fun touch, making it enjoyable throughout. The emphasis on gardening is a unique and beautiful element, with so many vibrant flowers to admire. I'm definitely excited for the upcoming episodes!

I love Aja's performance.

Fun mystery

What a fun show featuring new actors and actresses. It's nice to see representation of various types of families. The characters are interesting and I like how the timelines shift around. It's very clever how the writers insert the times, like "present day" on objects in the setting. Can't wait to find out whodunnit!! I also like the fact that it's light hearted not too dark or disturbing. The show's humorous dialogue makes it enjoyable to watch. The gardening focus is an interesting aspect of the show and it's very pretty to see the different varieties of flowers. I look forward to viewing subsequent episodes.

Too cute

It could be interesting if it didn't think that the flashing (forward and backward) makes it more interesting.

But, it doesn't work.

I now have to write more so that I get a total of the required minimum characters in order to post a review that is more time wasting than the accurate and appropriate review that I have provided in the above set of characters. However, if I use numerous!!!! Exclamation and question????? Marks it can eventually fill up the cavernous void that a childish website would require. Now that I'm under fifter characters, I'm ready to stop!!!!!

Try for a adult version.

A blooming masterpiece 🌻🌺🌹

"This show is an absolute garden of delights! 🌻 It's so creative each episode plants the seeds of curiosity and quickly blossoms into a story full of color and depth. Absolutely one of the best shows I have seen in awhile. It isn't your average "crime mystery" or who done it! I love that it keeps you guessing. The characters are well-rooted and grow beautifully over time, making it easy to get attached. A true bouquet of drama, humor, and creativity! This show definitely deserves a spot in your must-watch flowerbed." I'm really hoping that it doesn't get cancelled prematurely like so many other shows!

Move to Friday is a sign the garden is dying

There is a reason why networks don't schedule anything interesting on Friday - no one is watching! I remember when 20/20 was a NEWS show - Barbara Walters with Hugh Downs (ok, showing my age here) now it's murder of the week garbage - same as Nightline - If you want to watch really great/fun murder mysteries get ACORN or BRITBOX - No amount of fertilizer is going to save this dying garden.

Not ONE character is worth getting to know, too many affairs with no heart, and REALLY? Just WHO cares about garden clubs in this day/age when people just hire landscapers and have better things to do with their lives?

I'd much rather spend my time IN my garden then wasting it watching this "society"!

Love this show!

I love how this show is constantly testing if you know who "quiche" is. I love Aja Naomi King and Birdie! I really hope it gets a season 2. The editing back and forth between the timelines is perfect because they add text clues but also the coloring is different. I do weekly recaps on my TikTok channel and my audience and I are having a blast trying to figure out what's all going on. I love how the 4 main characters are like a merry band of misfits who get into all sorts of trouble on top of a murder. It's fun and light but full of drama lol. I do wish first seasons were longer than 10 episodes to give shows more of a chance for a season 2.

Love

Love this show, love the actors and the plot. All the actors are great, I especially love Anna Sophia Robb as she hasn't been in anything I've seen recently. I love that it takes place in south east Michigan as I was raised there and there's not enough movies and tv that take place there. It is very similar to HTGAWM but just in how it goes back and forth in the two timelines and the main idea of the show. The story and characters are different enough to make it worth while to watch. I really enjoy mystery shows like this. I'm so glad it's on Peacock too as I don't have cable. I will recommend this to everyone!

Grosse Pointe Garden Society plants the seed but never waters it.

What the writers think is a mystery is really just confusion strung together with clichés, bad acting, and flat direction.

I managed to get through 6 episodes-barely-and that was more than enough. The show supposedly has 13, but I tapped out halfway, and not for lack of trying. I really wanted to like it. The premise had potential, but what followed was a frustrating swirl of time jumps (six months forward, six months back, again and again), delivered with no rhythm and zero payoff.

The so-called "mystery" is just a vague mess, stretched thin over episodes that feel more like filler than storytelling. The writing leans hard on clichés, and not even in a fun or ironic way-just lazy. The acting doesn't help either. Most of the male characters are nearly indistinguishable, like they were cast from the same Hollywood template-generic, stiff, and forgettable By episode six I realized I didn't care who did what, or why, or when. I wasn't watching a mystery unfold-I was just being strung along with no real intrigue, no emotional weight, and no reason to stay invested.

If you're looking for suspense or originality, keep walking.

LOVE IT but Please Stop With TWO MONTHS AGO, ONE WEEK AGO, etc

I absolutely love this show. The actors are great and all the characters very likeable. My only complaint is I'm sick and tired of all the switching with the TWO WEEKS AGO...FOUR DAYS AGO.... etc. It is obnoxious and makes it difficult to have a flowing story line. I'm sure hoping it will have a second season because I look forward to it each week.

Just say no

Firstly, time jumps are soooo over. It's a hackneyed trick for lazy writers who don't understand how to write well so they think this vehicle adds attention they otherwise would've lost early on in. If the time jumps aren't integral plot points, (e.g., Bill and Ted go back in time to learn about history) don't use them. Period.

Secondly, not a single character is compelling. The character developments are predictable and trite at best. Real high school stuff.

Thirdly, the mystery gimmicks (hiding someone's name; hiding who the letter's from, etc) aren't mysterious and really, no one cares.

Just nothing here to see, with the possible exception of Ben Rappaport.

Back to film class for the lot of you!!
