Simona Tabasco have been cast in the satirical horror-thriller Corporate Retreat, Variety reports.

She joins the joins the previously announced Lilly Krug (Plane), Rosanna Arquette (Pulp Fiction), Ashton Sanders (Moonlight), and Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).

Described as “a gory mix of The Menu and Saw,” the film centers around a group of corporate executives whose team-bonding trip turns into a bloody fight for survival against a vengeful retreat leader.

Principal photography is set to begin in June with Aaron Fisher (Inside the Rain) directing from a script he co-wrote with Kerri Lee Romeo.

“After watching Simona’s electrifying performance in ‘White Lotus,’ it became instantly evident that she is a rising star. The actor and husband of Sarah Jessica Parker, who starred in the HBO series, stopped by James Corden’s This Life of Mine show on SiriusXM. During his conversation with the former late night host, the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star was asked if it was true he was asked to be in the romance drama multiple times and opted not to.

“Whenever there was a part that I could do, I couldn’t do it is really all that happened,” he explained. “But also sometimes, it was like, ‘Do you want to do two days as the premature ejaculator?’ And I’d be like, ‘You know, I don’t know. It’s just kind of embarrassing.’”

While it would’ve seemed likely that Parker approached him about guest starring in her show, that was never the case.

The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Kurosawa Akira Award, the jury members for the TIFF Ethical Film Award, and details of the International Symposium on Film Education.

The 2024 Kurosawa Akira Award will go to Japanese director Miyake Sho and Taiwanese director Fu Tien-yu. The award honors the renowned auteur’s legacy and ongoing influence. It is presented to filmmakers who have made waves in cinema and are expected to help guide the industry’s future. Last year, notable filmmakers Gu Xiaogang and Mouly Surya received the award. Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) will honour Japanese filmmaker Sho Miyake and Taiwanese director Fu Tien-yu with the Kurosawa Akira Award at its upcoming 37th edition (October 28 to November 6).

SXSW Sydney Headliners

Experimental music film “Pavements” and offbeat comedy “Nightbitch” are among five titles designated as ‘headliners’ of the film section on the upcoming SXSW Sydney festival.

“Pavements,” which premiered in Venice, is an experimental hybrid of narrative, scripted, documentary, musical, and metatextual elements from director Alex Ross Perry about the indie rock outfit, Pavement.

“Nightbitch,” which debuted in Toronto, is a darkly comedic fairy tale about a stay-at-home mother, portrayed by Amy Adams, who transforms into a dog.

Others getting the gala treatment include Max & Sam Eggers’ new A24 horror “The Front Room,” starring pop star Brandy as a newly-pregnant woman facing off against her mother-in-law; “Smile 2,” by Parker Finn; and Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night,” based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of “Saturday Night Live.”

Tokyo International Film Festival has announced that Japanese filmmaker Sho Miyake and Taiwanese filmmaker Fu Tien-yu will be the joint recipients of the 2024 Kurosawa Akira Award.

The award honors the legacy and ongoing influence of the selected directors. Last year, China’s Gu Xiaogang and Indonesia’s Mouly Surya received the award. The selection committee for this year’s award included Yoji Yamada, Yoko Narahashi, Saburo Kawamoto and TIFF programming director Shozo Ichiyama.

When it comes to classic holiday movies, it's a safe bet that Planes, Trains & Automobiles is at the top of the list. The funny, feel-good Thanksgiving movie was written, produced, and directed by the extraordinary John Hughes, and stars Steve Martin and John Candy. Unlike his well-known teenage comedies such as The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Hughes breaks away from trademark teen dramas by telling a comedic, heartwarming story about a marketing executive and a shower curtain ring salesman, who are unexpectedly stuck together after travel mishaps force them on a three-day journey back home. The critically acclaimed '80s movie is arguably one of Hughes's career-best works, and its ending says it all. For Planes, Trains & Automobiles, however, its impactful yet golden ending was the reverse of what the director originally envisioned.

Hulu has to be pretty pleased with its list of new releases for June 2024. That’s because it’s about to be the summer of The Bear once again.

The Bear season 3 premieres all of its episodes on June 27 on Hulu. This FX dramedy has proven to be one of the most successful shows of its era. Jeremy Allen White stars as Carmy Berzatto, a world-famous chef who returns home to Chicago to help his floundering family restaurant after the death of his brother. Bender's behavior towards Claire in The Breakfast Club, including sexual harassment, is deplorable and uncomfortable for viewers to watch. Despite its iconic status, The Breakfast Club's romance storylines undermine the message of not letting presumptions about others stop you from befriending them.

The next installment of the long lasting Marvel Cinematic Universe has a lot of pressure behind it. Not only is this the first time the X-Men series will be brought into the MCU after being at 20th Century Fox for two decades, but the previous year’s films were seen as either disappointments or outright failures.

The studio has set David Katzenberg to direct the follow-up movie Sam and Victor’s Day Off, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Hong Kong icon Johnnie To will head the jury of the sixth edition of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) next month. Other jurors include: Truong Ngoc Anh from Vietnam, Ryuichi Hiroki from Japan, Zizan Razak from Malaysia, and Eric Khoo from Singapore.

The event will open with the world premiere of “Eraser,” directed by Mark Lee See Teck. The Malaysian film features the final on-screen appearance of the late Adibah Noor, a beloved Malaysian gem known for her timeless charisma. MIFFest will play “See You at the Rally,” directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Kanny Chang as its closing title. The festival is set to take place at Lalaport Bbcc from July 23-29 and will play a total of 42 films from 15 countries.

Succession star Alan Ruck reveals in an exclusive with uInterview his thoughts on the show’s finale.

While he did enjoy acting on the show he noted that, “[creator] Jesse [Armstrong]’s right to end it now. I think we’ll go out on a real high. I think it’s the best season we’ve done, really, and then we’ve done some pretty good stuff, you know. But I think it’s our best season. I think he’s smart to end it now, we’ll go out on a high note. I’ll miss everybody but that’s how it goes.”

Ruck has played Connor Roy since the show started in 2018. His character is the eldest son of Logan Roy and Logan’s first wife, whom he divorced. Throughout the show, he and his siblings, Roman, Kendall and Shiv, fight for control of their father’s company, Waystar Royco.

If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,” like Matthew Broderick almost missed the opportunity to star in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off because of complications with the film’s director, John Hughes. “He was nervous [the film] wouldn’t come out right,” Broderick said about Hughes’s apprehension toward his performance. In a new interview, Matthew Broderick says he would occasionally “butt heads” with John Hughes during the making of the 1986 comedy classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

“He was not easygoing in some ways,” Broderick, 61, says of the late writer-director legend on The Hollywood Reporter’s It Happened in Hollywood podcast. “He was nervous it wouldn’t come out right.”

Broderick fondly recalls spending hours in Hughes’ swimming pool in Brentwood around the time of the filming, “smoking cigarettes and eating potato chips” as they discussed the role that would eventually shoot the actor, then 23, to superstardom.

But things got off to a bumpy start when filming began on location in Chicago in September 1985.

“I remember we did a costume test early on,” Broderick recalls. “We walked around the streets of Chicago in our costumes and they filmed us — me, Alan [Ruck], Jennifer Grey and Mia [Sara].

“That was a big drama.
