Ghost of Yotei Will Completely Change Up One Mechanic We All Loved From the Original
Image
Last Updated on Jul 18, 2025 @ 10:19:45 Am.

Ghost of Yotei is still a few months away, but this hasn’t stopped the developers from sharing new information about the highly anticipated project. Sucker Punch Productions struck gold with the exploration system of the original game and the conservative heads-up display. Jin was told that his father would be his guiding wind in his adventures, and it would never lead him astray.

The developers made good with that feature by adding a guiding wind mechanic to point you in the right direction by swiping up on the touchpad. For this new adventure, Atsu will have a similar, but much more artistic way of being guided to new locations and points of interest through the sound of music.

The Sound of Music Will Be Atsu’s Guiding Wind in Ghost of Yotei Exploration and traversal will be much more rewarding in the Ghost of Yotei.

‘The Drifter’ Is a Superb Callback to Classic Point-And-Click Adventure Titles [Review]
Image
I’m sure the term has been around for a while, but I recently heard the term “newstalgia” for the first time, and that’s a term that I would apply to lots of video games that I enjoy. I don’t necessarily feel this about franchise reboots, but I like it when classic-feeling genres are updated to feel more modern. The Drifter, the latest game from the Australian duo known as Powerhoof, does exactly that. Not only does it find mechanical ways to update the point-and-click adventure genre, but also tells a sci-fi horror thriller that feels right at home with something from 70s and 80s cinema.

They pitch this game as being inspired by King, Crichton, and Carpenter, and that’s apparent in every aspect of the narrative that they present. You play as Mick Carter, the titular drifter who is returning home for his mom’s funeral.

‘The Drifter’ Review: A Propulsive Pulp Adventure
Image
The plot of The Drifter is a veritable corkboard of conspiracies—shadowy corporate payoffs, illicit experiments on the unhoused, and a rash of mysteriously convenient serial killings—that are practically connected by lines of red string, creating a complex web of information. At the center of it all is the unwitting Mick Carter, who’s spent years running from his past but soon finds himself running from cops and paramilitary goons.

It’s to the credit of the developers at Powerhoof that Mick’s misadventures retain a gripping momentum even in the typically laidback template of a sort of point-and-click adventure game. Much of this tension comes from the fact that the drifter can and will die upon being thrown into scenarios where he might end up shot, stabbed, or splattered across the pavement. Death, though, is just the beginning here, as time seems to rewind itself after each failure,...

Clint Eastwood Masked His Only Horror Movie as a 94% Rated Western That You Can Rent on Apple
Image
Clint Eastwood is not really an auteur filmmaker, but he has a certain affinity for particular genres. His filmography is eclectic, but it covers a specific range of topics and can be easily categorized. While he is known for Westerns, he has explored various dimensions in that too, bidding goodbye to it with Unforgiven and Cry Macho.

One of Eastwood’s earliest directorials saw him experiment with the genre in a way that he has never done before or after. The revenge drama High Plains Drifter takes the familiar trope of a stranger visiting a new town and being asked to be its protector and turns it on itself. However, it is Eastwood’s atmosphere of mystique and horror that makes it more fun.

Clint Eastwood's Western That Drew Criticism From John Wayne Becomes a Hit on Streaming 52 Years Later
Image
Clint Eastwood has had a long and prolific career, both as an actor and as a director. Shortly after his rise to fame in the '60s, he also stepped behind the camera.

Following his directorial debut in 1971 with the thriller Play Misty for Me, he starred in and directed his first Western, High Plains Drifter, which premiered in 1973, and starred Eastwood as The Stranger. The film also received criticism from John Wayne and further deepened their difference, as the Western icon disagreed with Eastwood's vision of the West. 52 years later, High Plains Drifter became a hit on Netflix, wrapping up the global Top 10 for the week between May 12 and 18, per Tudum.

The Western is not available to stream on Netflix U.S., but it has hit the streaming platform across different territories around the world and quickly became a hit. It received 2.3 million views across the globe and 4.1 million hours viewed,...

On Expert difficulty, players will realize how much Hive Guardians have been nerfed. However, these changes have affected Hive Guardians only in one boss rush activity.

The Destiny 2 universe is constantly expanding as Bungie has rolled out many exciting expansion packs to keep the players hooked. With the Light and Darkness Saga wrapped up, many wonder what’s next for the franchise. Many are focusing on Drifter going off the grid as many are speculating that he is off to seek a group of powerful enigmatic entities, which would allow Bungie to continue the lore.

Hyper Light Breaker Early Access Launch Trailer Showcases Epic Battles, Dangerous Foes & More
Image
Heading into the Early Access release of Hyper Light Breaker, a new launch trailer for the game has given potential players a significant preview of what to expect. Originally announced in 2022, Hyper Light Breaker is the third game to be released by indie developer Heart Machine, and a prequel to the studio's 2016 debut title, Hyper Light Drifter. Despite being a follow-up to Drifter, however, Breaker differs significantly in terms of genre and gameplay, being an open-world, co-op roguelike with 3D action combat.

In preparation for the game's impending Early Access launch, a new trailer has been released on the Hyper Light Breaker YouTube channel, showing just over a minute of what players can expect in terms of combat, traversal, and exploration. Coinciding with the release of Breaker, the game will launch with a Hyper Light Breaker bundle at 10% off its standard Early Access $29.99 price tag, which will also include a...

How Progression & Upgrades Work In Hyper Light Breaker
Image
Hyper Light Breaker builds on its predecessor Hyper Light Drifter in every conceivable way, including its progression systems. Like Drifter, Hyper Light Breaker is a roguelike game. Players go through it in "Cycles" - each time they spawn, they complete as much of the game as they can until they run up against a wall and their character dies. They then start the Cycle again from scratch, only this time, they find themselves in an entirely new procedurally generated world, with new challenges to face and new upgrades to gain.

But in order to ensure players are reliably able to complete the game, Hyper Light Breaker implements a variety of different progression systems to ensure the player character gets increasingly stronger over time. There are those that apply only within an individual Cycle, those that apply across runs, those that affect your character, and those that affect the world around them.

This ‘70s Road Thriller Finds Clint Eastwood on the Wrong End of the Law
Image
In the early days of his legendary career, Clint Eastwood dominated the silver screen with larger-than-life men of action. Whether he’s the lone stranger flipping a town on its head in High Plains Drifter or serving justice with a .44 Magnum in Dirty Harry, Eastwood’s characters are rarely ever flawed. But every once in a while, he would find a role that allowed him to play a different shade of his otherwise established persona.

This 58-Year-Old Japanese Classic Influenced Gangster Movies for Decades to Come
Image
Seijun Suzuki's 1966 gangster movie Tokyo Drifter is a classic of Japanese cinema that has influenced the film industry for decades to come. However, despite its now iconic status, Tokyo Drifter was not always an internationally renowned work. After serving in the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, Suzuki became an assistant director at the Shochiku Company's Ofuna Studio. In 1954, Suzuki moved to the Nikkatsu Corporation, where he began as an assistant director before eventually writing screenplays and directing. At Nikkatsu, Suzuki developed a reputation for directing quality B-movies in the yakuza and action genres. Given shoestring budgets and extremely tight schedules, Suzuki found success through films such as Underworld Beauty, Take Aim at the Police Van, and Everything Goes Wrong.

While many of Suzuki's early works achieved moderate commercial success, his artistic breakthrough occurred in 1963 with the release of the yakuza film Youth of the Beast. Starting with Youth of the Beast,...

Clint Eastwood Took 19 Years To Beat The First Western He Ever Directed
Image
As a director, Clint Eastwood set such a high bar with High Plains Drifter that it took 19 years for him to finally surprass it. In addition to headlining some of the greatest Westerns of all time, Clint Eastwood developed a reputation as a competent filmmaker, directing some celebrated, award-winning movies over the course of his long career in Hollywood. Unsurprisingly, many of these were in the genre that launched him to stardom in the first place.

After making the transition to TV to film, Clint Eastwood became the biggest Western star of the 1960s, with his role as The Man With No Name in Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy being his claim to fame at the time. After a string of prominent roles, Clint Eastwood tried his hand at directing, taking on Play Misty For Me as his first time in the director's chair in 1971. Two years later, he directed two more films,...

Kino Lorber’s Kino Cult line brings five nature run amok horror films to Blu-ray in August
Image
The distribution company Kino Lorber recently launched an interesting Blu-ray line called Kino Cult, and so far they have released the 1985 sci-fi Western Alien Outlaw, the Bettie Page double feature Teaserama and Varietease, the 1985 horror film The Dark Power, the 1974 drama Drifter, the 1974 Jess Franco horror film Lorna the Exorcist, the 1973 Jess Franco crime thriller Sinner: The Secret Diary of a Nymphomaniac, and the 1985 Clive Barker adaptation Underworld (a.k.a. Transmutations). Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that five more Kino Cult Blu-ray releases are set for August 20th, and there’s a theme to this batch: they’re all “nature run amok” horror movies! Most of them are movies I love to watch, too. Here’s the line-up: The Food of the Gods, Empire of the Ants, Frogs, Squirm, and Kingdom of the Spiders. The Only Clint Eastwood Movie Where He Plays A Supernatural Character
Image
Pale Rider is Clint Eastwood's only foray into playing a supernatural character in a Western setting, adding a unique twist to his filmography. The movie draws inspiration from classic Westerns like Shane, while also incorporating a subtle supernatural edge to the story of a mysterious preacher. Despite being a departure from Eastwood's typical roles, Pale Rider remains one of his best-received films, blending elements of horror and Western genres.

Pale Rider is the only time in Clint Eastwood's career that he played a supernatural character. Clint Eastwood built his career on his appearances in Western, beginning with the TV series Rawhide. His work in Sergio Leone's Dollars movie trilogy not only cemented his stardom but also helped establish the spaghetti Western genre too. In the years, that followed, Eastwood made many more Westerns, including Two Mules For Sister Sara, The Outlaw Josey Wales and later signed off...

One of Clint Eastwood's Best Movies Is Connected to the KKK
Image
Quick Links The Outlaw Josey Wales Is a Civil War Story What Makes The Outlaw Josey Wales Important? Who Was Asa Earl Carter, and How Is He Connected to the KKK? The Outlaw Josey Wales reveals its troubling source material linking heroic Confederate soldiers to the KKK. Clint Eastwood's film stands out as an important revenge tale with strong performances and complex characters. Asa Earl Carter, the author of the source material, was a racist figure with KKK ties, adding a dark layer to the film's legacy.

The Outlaw Josey Wales was Clint Eastwood's fifth directed film, the second in the Western genre. Like High Plains Drifter, it was a critical smash and remains respected to this day. But Josey Wales has a grimmer story behind its production than Drifter, and it's not so surprising when viewing it in modern times. However, with the sexual assault scene in the first act of Drifter,...

The Best Directors Since 2000, Ranked
Image
Perhaps an indictment of the current state of the film industry, the truth is many of the best directors working today began their careers in the 1900s. Leading Hollywood auteurs such as Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Paul Thomas Anderson have been making films for decades, amassing significant bodies of work. A major problem facing modern directors is that it is nearly impossible to get non-franchise films financed by studios. It is a sad reality that someone of Scorsese's status, for example, has had to turn to streaming services to finance his films.

Although difficult, some directors have broken through and accumulated a substantial filmography during the twenty-first century. For the sake of this article, the best directors since 2000 are filmmakers who directed their first feature film on or after the year 2000. Auteurs such as Alejandro Gonzlez Irritu, Bong Joon-ho, and Cline Sciamma each rank among the best directors of the modern era.

The 2 Western Movies John Wayne Thought Were Better Than His 67-Year-Old Masterpiece
Image
John Wayne believed Red River and Stagecoach were superior to The Searchers, which is considered his best movie. Wayne's portrayal as Ethan Edwards in The Searchers highlighted his ability to play an anti-hero and was a radical departure from his usual heroic roles. Collaboration with director John Ford brought out the best in Wayne and produced some of his finest performances.

The Searchers is universally regarded as John Wayne's best movie, but the star himself considered two other Westerns to be superior. Wayne fronted 80 Westerns throughout his career, starting out in little-seen "Poverty Row" titles like Haunted Gold before fronting classics like Rio Bravo. The star played many other kinds of characters, but his legacy will always be that of a Western star. As with most movie stars, audiences gravitated towards Wayne in a certain type of role, which was typically the macho, upstanding cowboy who always did the right thing.

Clint Eastwoods Last Psychological Thriller Is an Underrated Gem
Image
While Unforgiven is often considered Clint Eastwood's directorial magnum opus, his versatility when it comes to tackling broad and important themes and varied genre fare is evident in large supply. His spate of 70s westerns turned heads for their depth (The Outlaw Josey Wales) and at times mystic sensibilities (High Plains Drifter), and his thrillers have also regularly delivered with brute force impact. Kicking off with 1971's Play Misty for Me, a frightening chiller that oozed cool and perhaps served as the forerunner for films such as Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct, Eastwood has proven a dab hand at conducting police procedurals and murky psychological potboilers. However, the director's underrated 2002 release Blood Work is a coolly compelling film that mystery-thriller aficionados ought to seek out.

10 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching Clint Eastwood's Western Movies
Image
Eastwood's Westerns challenge typical hero tropes by blurring morality and questioning vigilante justice. Historical inaccuracies and whitewashing in Eastwood's films paint a problematic picture of the Western genre. Women in Eastwood's Westerns are often limited to stereotypical roles, perpetuating harmful stereotypes of Indigenous communities.

Clint Eastwood defined the Western movie genre for many years, but when rewatching his classic films through the lens of modern-day conventions and expectations, some obvious issues come to light. This reality isn't to say that his films should be panned and never watched again, but viewing them with a critical eye can open up the audience’s world and inform modern iterations of the genre. Revisiting Eastwood's most iconic movies with an awareness of the problems doesn’t ruin the movies but makes them richer by having a contextual understanding of the Western genre.

After working in the Western arena for so long, Eastwood...

Is This Clint Eastwood Western Character Really A Ghost? (The Script Gave An Answer)
Image
The original screenplay for "High Plains Drifter" made it clear Clint Eastwood's character is avenging his brother's murder. Eastwood added supernatural elements, making his character The Stranger feel like the avenging spirit of a murdered Marshal. Eastwood leaves it up to viewers to decide if The Stranger is a ghost or not, but there are plenty of clues suggesting he is.

This Clint Eastwood Western character is borderline supernatural in his shooting skills, but is he actually a ghost? Eastwood is one of the last major stars who made their name appearing in Westerns. After spending years on the TV series Rawhide, Sergio Leone cast the young Eastwood in A Fistful of Dollars, a low-budget Italian Western. The movie itself proved groundbreaking and is credited with creating the "Spaghetti Western" subgenre. The star returned for two more Leone films, with Eastwood's first American Western lead being Hang 'Em High in 1968.

During the '70s,...

Richard Moll and Frank Carroll at an event for Giudice di notte (1984)
Richard Moll, the fun-loving actor who portrayed the towering and tenderhearted bailiff Aristotle Nostradamus “Bull” Shannon on all nine seasons of the popular NBC sitcom Night Court during its original run, has died. He was 80.

Moll died peacefully Thursday at his home in Big Bear Lake, California, his publicist announced.

Suitable for his 6-foot-8 frame, Moll played an abominable snowman alongside Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach in the comedy feature Caveman (1981), and he was a scary, decomposing Vietnam veteran in the horror film House (1986).

Moll also did lots of voiceover work, with a regular gig as the immortal bodyguard Norman on the syndicated series Mighty Max and turns as Harvey Dent/Two-Face for three Batman cartoons.

Moll had a shaved head — he did that to play the warrior Hurok in the sci-fi film Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn (1983) — when he auditioned for the role of Shannon on Night Court, created by Reinhold Weege.

What Time Destiny 2's Weekly Reset Is In All Major Time Zones

Destiny 2’s weekly reset time is an anticipated moment among all players for several reasons. With the release of the Lightfall expansion, that time slightly changed, but the expectation for the new content and updated rotations has not. Because Bungie’s online shooter is a live-service game, it gets a weekly reset that brings in new content, such as seasonal missions, as well as rotating pre-existing content.

Activities like the featured Nightfall mission in Destiny 2 or Crucible mode change with the weekly reset. Within a season, the reset also serves to implement new seasonal challenges and stories, keeping the game updated with the latest content. The weekly reset in Destiny 2 always happens on the same weekday and time, with little variations to when it is implemented depending on daylight saving time.

Genre Diversity Key in German Films
Image
German cinema looks set for a major boom this year with a strong lineup of diverse works that span historical dramas, coming-of-age tales, high-octane nostalgia, animation and sci-fi fun.

The Berlin Film Festival is bowing a muscular selection of local titles, among them “Afire,” by Berlinale mainstay Christian Petzold (“Undine”), screening in competition. The films centers on a group of young people staying at a holiday house near the Baltic Sea during a hot, dry summer, exploring volatile emotions that start to sizzle when a wildfire spreads through the surrounding forest.

Likewise vying for the Golden Bear is Margarethe von Trotta’s biopic “Ingeborg Bachmann: Journey Into the Desert,” starring Vicky Krieps (“Corsage”) as the radical Austrian author. The film examines her relationship with Swiss writer Max Frisch and her 1964 journey of self-discovery through the Egyptian desert.
