Extraordinary Women

I came across the series Extraordinary Women & I am so glad I did. The lives of Madame Chang Kai Shek, Dr. Ruth, Audrey Hepburn, Josephine Baker, Agatha Christie, Martha Gellhorn, Grace Kelly, Maria Montessori, Amelia Earhart, Indira Ghandi, Hedy Lamarr, Coco Chanel, & Wallis Simpson are fascinating to me; especially the lives of the women I didn't know very well like Martha Gellhorn & Madame Chang Kai Shek. The episodes were informative & fascinating. I learned so much from the series, which I loved. The only problem with the series is that at times the music was so loud, I could barely hear the narrator very well. Other than that, I highly recommend the show.

We came across this mini series by accident. I would definitely recommend watching it. There was a lot of info I had known before but also a lot of new info. Audrey Hepburn was my favroite episode and the one I learned the most about. My wish is that there would be more episode about other extraordinary women. I also wish that the music in some of the episodes would not be as loud, it drowns out any of the spoken part, especially in episodes 7 and 11. Overall, it is worth watching but don't expect to understand every word spoken. Which is a shame. Henceforth only 8 stars for the rating from me.

I came upon this mini documentary series 10 years after it came out. All of the episodes, each about a different woman, are very interesting and I wish that they had done more of them. These women, whether you agree with how they lived their lives or not, are all quite extraordinary in wonderful ways for some, and for others, just because they did things out of the norm for women. I already knew the stories about some, and almost nothing about others. Some of the women's lives actually crossed over with each other.

My only complaint was with the sound quality on a couple of the episodes towards the last ones (I still have two more to go) and that is that the music overlay is too loud and drowns out the narrator and the voice actress..which is a bummer. Luckily it doesn't happen throughout the episode though. Otherwise like I said, agree or disagree.. they're all interesting.

FIrst off, all the segments, except for Amelia Earhart who was a terrible example of a pilot of any gender, were most interesting. And interestingly, only one of them was in the late 20th and 21st Century, darling Dr. Ruth. Otherwise, they were all secure in the world of black and white film.

The first 3 segments are very well done - meaning you can actually hear what's being said by the narrator. In the second half, the music totally overwhelms the narrator and anyone else who's speaking. You need to have Close Captioning on to know what's being said.

Frankly I think that was worth taking off a star.

I wish there would be a second season - with other women, such as Golda Meir and Beryl Markham. And please don't use the sound engineer that did the sound for the second half of this series.

I did learn a lot of new things about the women I knew. And this is a worthwhile series ........ as long as you know how to turn on CC.
