Fired ‘X-Men ’97’ Showrunner Slams Marvel’s New X-Men Movie Plans & Kevin Feige: ‘It’s Sad’
Image
The former showrunner of X-Men ’97, Beau DeMayo, did not hold back when talking about Marvel Studios’ plans for the X-Men. According to DeMayo, what Marvel is doing with the mutants is “sad.” Even though fans are excited to see the X-Men finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DeMayo is skeptical about the direction the studio is taking.

DeMayo, who was let go from Marvel for what was called “egregious conduct,” has stayed vocal about his opinions. In a series of posts on X, he criticized Marvel’s strategy for introducing the X-Men to the MCU.

While he admitted he would have loved to be involved in writing or directing the live-action movies, he said, “First, the X-Men are so much bigger than any one creative, myself included. Would I have loved to write, direct, steer the live action films? Of course. But I have great faith that...

Yet Another ’X-Men ‘97’ Star Confesses Desire for Animated Movie as Live-Action X-Men Movie Hype Grows [Exclusive]
Image
After Storm voice actor Alison Sealy-Smith and Rogue voice actor Lenore Zann both previously expressed their desire for an animated X-Men ‘97 movie, another of their co-stars has jumped on the bandwagon. Starring in the role of Gambit in X-Men ‘97 is A.J. LoCasio, who is also famous for voicing Han Solo in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Gambit may have met an unfortunate fate in X-Men ‘97 Season 1, but that doesn’t mean LoCasio is ready to say goodbye to the card-dealing mutant.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently caught up with LoCasio to promote his new book, and she asked for his thoughts on continuing Gambit’s story with an animated X-Men movie. He admits that he “saw Lenore say something” and that the Rogue actress “has been talking about that for a while.” He continued, expressing his desire to do more but also not wanting to overwhelm...

Achilles: Survivor Review: Building a Better Horde Game
Image
To stand alone against an endless tide of monsters is a familiar trial, but to do so in the shadow of Olympus lends the struggle a certain gravity. Achilles: Survivor casts players into this very scenario, placing them in the sandals of legendary figures fighting for their lives in the grim depths of Tartarus.

The game follows the popular horde-survivor model where your hero attacks automatically, leaving you to master the critical art of movement. Your focus is on weaving through enemies, dodging projectiles, and scooping up the glowing experience orbs left in their wake.

While it exists as a spin-off to the action RPG Achilles: Legends Untold, no familiarity with that title is needed. This is a self-contained experience that takes a well-known gameplay formula and injects it with a smart and engaging construction mechanic that alters the very flow of battle.

Kevin Feige Says MCU X-Men Movie Will Be a 'Youth-Focused Reboot'
Image
The kids will probably be alright in Marvel's future X-Men adaptation.

Per The Playlist, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige offered a brief tease of what director Jake Schreier's upcoming take on Mutantkind will look like when its new X-Men team members are introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Jake’s going to make a youth-focused reboot, he revealed, adding, "That may be reflected in mutant castings, and it'll definitely be felt in the tone and perspective of the film."

While it remains to be seen which X-Men characters will be selected for the MCU, Schreier -- who previously helmed Marvel's critically, albeit not commercially successful film Thunderbolts* -- discussed what he most looks forward to exploring in the X-Men's neverending battles against supervillains and human prejudice. To Schreier, "The core idea of what 'X-Men' is involves complexity. It's an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict.

The book, a tie-in to Age of Revelation, will be written by Murewa Ayodele and drawn by Roland Boschi, and features Rogue assembling a new X-Force team for a decidedly dark mission. Marvel’s solicitation reads as follows:

Kill The Goddess, Save The World! X Years Later, with Earth’s gods gone, only Ororo Munroe, the mutant god of storms remains. She is a goddess driven mad by dark magic and grief. Now, as Storm threatens to freeze the world into a new Ice Age,...

How Avengers: Doomsday can redeem Fox's X-Men
Image
It seems that X marks the spot in Avengers: Doomsday, as fans of the original lineup of X-Men from Fox’s noughties era are in for a treat. While we know there’s not room for everyone, the lengthy Doomsday cast reveal confirmed the return of series staples Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart as Magneto and Professor X, joined by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique. Finally, more classic X-Men are officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The official Marvel Studios Instagram confirmed, “There’s always room for more,” in terms of others being added to the 27-strong Doomsday cast. More than just missing MCU mainstays like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, a host of the Fox-era X-Men could be suiting up in the shadows. After Deadpool & Wolverine finally put Hugh Jackman’s...

Netflix Thriller 'Rogue Agent' With James Norton & Gemma Arterton Finds Streaming Success
Image
A long-time James Bond favorite demonstrates his affinity for espionage and joins forces with a former Bond girl in an underrated thriller that is now finding success on Netflix. Released in 2022, the mystery thriller Rogue Agent finds Quantum of Solace star Gemma Arterton sharing the screen with Happy Valley star and current 007 frontrunner James Norton in this true story of a conman who masqueraded as an MI5 agent.

Rogue Agent is now holding firm at #5, with the rest of the Netflix top 10 made up of several action movies, including Miss Congeniality, Rambo: Last Blood, and the Die Hard-esque Aftermath, which is now at #1. Directed by Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn in their feature-length debut, and based on a mysteriously unpublished article titled "Chasing Agent Freegard" by Michael Bronner, Norton stars as conman Robert Hendy-Freegard with Gemma Arterton playing the woman who fell in love with him...before discovering the truth and taking him down.

When Keanu Reeves Named His Most Iconic Movie Villain – And, Of Course, It Was Agent Smith!
Image
Keanu Reeves Villain Pick (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Keanu Reeves has squared up against some legendary baddies. Rogue AI. Deadly assassins. Samurai warlords. But when asked about his most iconic big-screen foe, he didn’t even blink. “I mean, it’s gotta be Smith, right? Agent Smith. Hugo Weaving.”

No shocker there. Agent Smith would be sipping code-laced martinis in the front row if movie villains had a VIP section. The Matrix franchise’s resident menace didn’t just fight Neo; he haunted him. Cold. Calculated. Rocking those tiny sunglasses like a true cyberpunk tyrant.

Reeves made the revelation during a Q&a with IGN after a John Wick: Chapter 4 screening and the crowd ate it up. Because let’s be real: Agent Smith wasn’t just a villain. He was a virus. A rage-fueled, reality-bending glitch in the system who multiplied like bad WiFi and made Neo’s life an absolute nightmare.

Rogue Heroes Season 2 Premiere Review: MGM+ Series Is More Brash & Bold
Image
The following contains spoilers for Rogue Heroes Season 2, Episode 1, "Episode One," which debuted Sunday, Jan. 11 on MGM+.

Rogue Heroes Season 2 has landed on MGM+ after making its debut on BBC One, and anyone looking for an exciting diversion will find it worth the wait. The season opener is a wild ride that's full of action, sarcastic humor and dark comedy as it continues the story of the iconic Special Air Service (Sas), adapted from Ben McIntyre's book of the same name. The series is definitely not for everybody, but those who like their adventure shows to be tongue-in-cheek will have a lot of fun.

Season 2, Episode 1, "Episode One" re-establishes Rogue Heroes as no ordinary military TV show. After an almost grimly quiet opening scene, the episode descends into chaos -- both on and off-screen. Even when the characters have slowed down, the series keeps poking and prodding for the...

How Harlan Ellison helped save Star Trek from its flagging ratings
Image
It's no surprise that Star Trek: The Original Series struggled in the ratings for the entirety of its run. Though season one has some of the best stories and strong characterization and the ratings were relatively strong, they didn't have the consistency needed to guarantee a season two renewal. There were even rumors that NBC was flirting with the idea of cancellation.

Gene Roddenberry reached out to prolific sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison for help. Ellison had, at the time already sold scripts to many television series, had written a novel, edited Rogue Magazine, and published more than 100 short stories and articles. He was a force to be reckoned with in the sci-fi industry. So it made sense that Roddenberry would seek his help. According to The Fifty Year Mission The First Twenty-Five Years by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman, Ellison wrote a letter on December 1, 1966 to the Science Fiction Writers of America,...

Rogue: The Savage Land #1 First Look Sees The X-Man Don Her Iconic Pin-Up Costume From The 1990s
Image
This Wednesday, brace yourselves for jungle action, untamed romance, and more in the pages of Marvel Comics' Rogue: The Savage Land #1.

The series, first announced last September, will be written by Tim Seeley (Venom War: Wolverine) and illustrated by new artist sensation and Marvel Art Atelier winner Zulema Lavina in her Marvel Comics debut.

The five-issue limited series promises to take fans back to Chris Claremont and Jim Lee's legendary Uncanny X-Men #269 and #274-275 where Rogue embarked on a wild journey in the Savage Land, began her passionate relationship with Magneto, and sported her now iconic Savage Land look.

However, we're sure you'll recognise that costume from the 1990s pin-ups released by Marvel Comics, with Jim Lee responsible for creating this "Savage Land" look before he left to help found Image.

This story is billed as a pivotal chapter in Rogue’s history, and at long last, it's said...

Marvel Pits X-Men's Storm Against One Of The Greatest Comic Book Villains Ever [Exclusive Preview]
Image
Ororo Monroe, aka Storm of the X-Men, has been a busy woman lately. Storm recently joined the Avengers, and her ongoing solo series "Storm" has already been plenty eventful with only three issues so far.

To recap: Storm saved Tulsa from a nuclear meltdown, which was, in fact, a mutant child experiencing power onset. This inspired her to build the hovering "Storm Sanctuary" for mutants, but it also left her with radiation poisoning. After being sent to Brother Voodoo for some magical treatment, her life is saved, but she can't use her mutant powers for one week. So in "Storm" #3, Ororo visited Rogue's Uncanny X-Men in Louisiana and hooked up with Wolverine. At the issue's end, she was summoned by Doctor Doom who, since the 2024 crossover "Blood Hunt," is the Earth's new Sorcerer Supreme.

"Storm" #4 will pick up with Ororo arriving in Doom's domain of Latveria, and Marvel has...

It's Not Just Marvel: The Greatest Strength of Most Comics Is Also Their Most Damning Weakness
Image
Regardless if they're set in the world of Marvel, DC Comics, or another comic book company, all superhero comics have at least one thing in common: they are timeless, in more ways than one. Yes, the stories themselves can feel timeless and ageless, but never more so than the characters within them. Superhero comic book stories can truly be neverending because the characters themselves don't have to age.

When Marvel covered Rogue for an episode of the Women of Marvel podcast, Preeti Chhibber and Ellie Pyle sat down with novelist Cass Morris, clinical psychologist Orna Guralnik, and Rogue & Gambit (2018) writer Kelly Thompson. The episode focused on Rogue as a character, but soon delved deeper into how and why superhero characters stay relatively the same age decades after they were created.

The overall consensus is that the stagnant aging of Marvel's characters can be a blessing and a curse. It truly...

One Adrenaline-Packed X-Men Scene From 22 Years Ago Goes So Incredibly Hard, We’re Sure Even Kevin Feige Can’t Top It in MCU

The reign of the X-Men ended after 20 glorious years. With 14 myriad films in its collection, the Foxverse never fell short of wild, unpredictable, and adrenaline-packed scenes that could exterminate any other cinematic universe in its radius, especially Kevin Feige’s boy-scout-like realm of the MCU.

Rising in the shadow of such legends as Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Michael Fassbender, the Marvel Cinematic Universe stepped into the ring in a welterweight category with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. However, in the 25 years since its advent, no MCU film (with the exception of Endgame) has had the resonance and effect on fans that the Foxverse collectively resembles.

Gambit and Rogue's Romance Is Marvel's Greatest And One Creator Knows Why That's the Case
Image
Rogue and Gambit are one of the most beloved X-Men couples in Marvel, with a lengthy history to back their relationship up, and though the two heroes have had their share of drama, one Marvel comic writer perfectly explains how Remy and Rogue are so compelling together, as author Kelly Thomson reveals their greatest hurdle was also the key to Rogue and Gambit’s success.

In Marvel’s ‘Women of Marvel’ podcast, Rogue and Gambit series writers Kelly Thomson, Preeti Chhibber, Cass Morrison, and Ellie Pyle came together discuss the inner workings of Rogue, and in their discussion, they reveal how they write for one of the most iconic X-Men couples.

As they noted, the long-term success of the couple has been a positive result of the core conflicts that have threatened to break them up at times over the years. Check out the full quotes below to learn more.

Marvel Nearly Broke Up Gambit x Rogue For Good, But One Creator Managed to Shut Down the Separation
Image
Rogue and Gambit are widely considered Marvel's best couple, and with good reason. Their love story has spanned decades, culminating in their long-awaited marriage. However, this fan-favorite X-Men couple wasn't always destined to be together. In fact, before they walked down the aisle, Marvel had plans to break up Rogue and Gambit for good.

Kelly Thompson, the writer of 2018's Rogue & Gambit miniseries, spoke about her experience with writing this beloved romance in an episode of the "Women of Marvel" podcast that centered on Rogue. When discussing how she ended up penning their story, Thompson had this to say:

Rogue and Gambit had definitely sort of fallen away from each other for a long time. And Marvel came to me. They knew I was interested in both characters. And they were like, well, “Ok. Well, maybe we're thinking about something for Rogue and Gambit.” And so, that was how it came to be.

Marvel loves a good moniker, but the codename Rogue may not be as accurate as it used to be. After all, Rogue has existed in Marvel lore ever since 1981. For 43 years, she has carried the name Rogue like a badge of honor as it ties tightly into her origin story. However, the X-Men icon has grown and evolved so much since her debut that Rogue become far removed from her origins. And of course, that puts Rogue's codename in a bad light.

With all that said, Brazil may have had the right idea by naming the character something other than Rogue. A further examination of X-Men comic book art covers featuring Rogue reveals that overseas, the Marvel hero is instead referred to as Vampira.

It seems multiple comics from overseas refer to Rogue as Vampira. After explaining why the name Rogue just does not fit Anna Marie like it used to,...

Burt was a huge 5.1 meters (16 feet 8 inches) tall and weighed about 700 kilograms (110 stone). His appearance helped make Australia famous worldwide for its dramatic wildlife in movies. He was caught in the Reynolds River in 1980 and named after star Burt Reynolds. Later, filmmakers found him at a crocodile farm.

Penny Priest, CEO of Crocosaurus Cove, said, “Burt was a force of nature. He was one of a kind and had a great personality.” In a key scene, his most memorable moment on film was when Paul Hogan’s character, Mick Dundee, saved Linda Kozlowski’s character, Sue Charlton, from a crocodile attack. Quick Links Clayface Is Not a Notable Batman Villain Like The Joker or The Penguin The Clayface Film Will Come Out Before Batman's Debut In The Brave and the Bold This Is the Downside to DC Studios’ Approach to Development

Nearly two years ago, DC Studios unveiled a slate of films and television shows that will make up the Dcu's first chapter, titled Gods and Monsters. Creature Commandos launched the Dcu earlier this month and certainly fits the "monsters" part of chapter one's title, while Superman will cover the "Gods" portion of it in the summer. There we also many other projects on the slate shown off by DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Some like Lanterns and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow have made their way to the greenlight stage of production while The Brave and the Bold and Swamp Thing remain in development. “Few games can remain good for 100 hours”: Ubisoft Was Too Blind To See The Only Way Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Could Become a Legendary Open World Game
Image
If there’s one thing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla taught us, it’s that bigger is not always better. Sure, the game introduced five diverse regions (at launch), each packed with quests, secrets, and collectibles. But here’s the thing: stuffing all that content into one world (from the start) ended up diluting the entire experience, leaving players feeling more exhausted than amazed.

Players enjoyed the view but not the chore. | Image Credit: Ubisoft

Instead of overwhelming players with a vast, disjointed world right from the start, Ubisoft could have taken a thoughtful approach. It should have let players explore each region thoroughly, slowly releasing a few at a time to allow for deeper exploration and immersion. This could have been the key to unlocking the game’s true potential, but the studio missed the mark by a mile.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla should have been a more focused journey...

“It’s merely to avoid spoilers”: Assassin’s Creed Shadows Dev are Yet To Talk About the One Story Element Present in Every AC Game
Image
It’s no secret that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been the subject of intense scrutiny since its announcement. From the controversial selection of one of the main protagonists to stiff gameplay that seems far removed from the fluidity expected from the series, it’s not surprising to say the game has faced its fair share of controversy.

Players are anticipating the release of the game for various reasons. | Image Credit: Ubisoft

However, rather than recycling the same arguments, a more intriguing trend is emerging from the pre-release developers’ interviews and discussions, an odd silence surrounding a core element of the Assassin’s Creed franchise: the age-old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars. Is this silence a clever ploy by the Isu to hide the truth, or is it simply an effort to avoid spoilers?

Doctor Who has a long history of including huge celebrity guests, both before their breakout success and after. Doctor Who began airing in the UK on the BBC back in 1963. At that time, the show steadily grew in popularity, and it managed to attract the attention of many of the biggest stars of that era to appear on the show. Even the actors who played the titular Doctor frequently had a successful career by the time they were cast in the show, which helped to raise the prestige of the series overall.

However, since the revival in 2005, Doctor Who has established itself as a show that attracts some of the biggest actors in the industry. In addition, the show stands out for having cast a great number of actors years before their careers took off, and becoming one of their earliest acting credits. With such a prestigious pedigree, it's no...

Why Do Baldur's Gate 3 Players Hate True Strike?

Why exactly is True Strike allegedly such a bad ability to use, even though it grants players Advantage on their next turn?
