Not an epic, but good fighting

I wouldn't get near giving this a 10 .. but i also wouldn't call it the worst Martial Arts movie that i have ever seen (and I've seen a bunch). Since the main listed actor did the directing etc too, I'm guessing this was a project of passion, but the dude sure has a mean kick.

Low budget obviously, and a pretty weak plot and average acting, but still worth a watch for the fight Choreography. I didn't think that i would make it thru the whole movie but i did .

Filmed with multiple cameras, most simulating some kind of CCTV cameras which is an interesting choice.. seems to work with the plot.

So yeah .. worth at least one watch, but don't look for many Oscars in its future.

EDIT: When i wrote this i wasn't quite finished with the movie.. now that i am .. the ending actually caught me off guard.. it was very well done.

Average plot excellent fights poor acting

The acting in this movie is terrible, there is absolutely no feelings behind their words and I couldn't root for the characters. They fight to save someone's life and yet they act like they are grocery shopping. The highest point of the film are the fight scenes : well exectuted, flashy and impressive, it would have been much enjoyable to just watch a cut of all these scenes. Somehow the plot twist at the end of the movie surprised me and brought some satisfaction. The movie Dou fo sin (2007) shared some flaws with this movie : awesome fights but a boring story line with correct acting. So I'd recommend watching Dou fo sin over this one.

One of, if not the worst martial arts films ever made

The acting is terrible, the choreography and fight scenes are abysmal, and the plot, if you can even call it that does not hold attention at all. This films just screams low budget, with poorly trained actors and mediocre (at best) martial artists. It almost reminds me of Arena as it has many similarities, but worse, much much worse if you can believe that. Ultimately it is not worth your time, not to buy or rent, you couldn't give it away without offending the other person. Stay away at all costs, trust me. You're best watching an actual good fighting film such as; Undisputed 2, blood sport, IP man and the like.

Awesome Fighting - Definitely watch this movie!

Worth the watch! This movie is action packed with crazy awesome fighting throughout the whole movie and the fights just kept just getting more and more intense! It's absolutely worth checking out because you won't see fight scenes like these everyday. For a low budget movie they did a great job with all the action and the fight choreography was new and refreshing compared to other movies. Anyone who says "bad fighting" is crazy because the fighting was absolutely amazing and these martial artists are extremely skilled at what they do. Most Hollywood movies these days are all wires and CG and stunt doubles - so it's been awhile since I've seen fighting like this. I hope these guys keep making more movies because I look forward to watching them!

Don't waste your time

This film was disappointing, with a capital D. I grew up doing and watching martial arts, and I can ignore a dodgy plot if the fighting is good enough - sadly it wasn't in this effort, and the plot is totally ridiculous as well. I only made it through the whole thing because I had some other (intentional) distractions going on at the same time (especially needed when there was no fighting). Yes, the plot and acting were that bad. So for the short review, that's it - don't waste your time.

In more detail - for choreography, "The Raid 2" does the same sort of thing as this film (multiple opponents, creative techniques) but looks a lot more convincing. No doubt there's real skill to making a hit look real, and the makers of Die Fighting need to work on that. A related problem is that, too often they portrayed weak or fancy techniques as being effective, and at the same time, I don't think there wasn't anything there I hadn't seen before.

As for the story - urghh, the plot hinges on ever-present video cameras which I find ridiculous (because the characters actually move around quite a bit), then there's the whole motivation for them...*sigh*. As for a plot mechanic, look, it basically rips off Saw, and it uses a little found footage on top of that, so....yeah. A poorly filmed, poorly choreographed martial arts version of Saw. Evidently the guys who made this were just as desperate as the main character in the movie itself.

Fighting sequences make it worth watching.

The fighting alone makes it worth the 6/10. The acting was hard to watch.. The story was nothing worse than what you'd find in other martial arts movies like Ong Bak, etc.

The movie has A LOT of fighting in it, and thankfully you don't have to sit through to much of the painful acting. The majority of the fights are really well done (especially those with the lead actor).

The fighters themselves can seriously fight. They have technique and speed that I've seen from more famous actor/fighters (Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais). The lead actor is especially fun to watch. If you're a martial arts fanatic like myself, you'll really appreciate the skill that he has. It's a shame these guys don't have a bigger budget to work with or may never getting the fame and reputation of guys like Tony Jaa but I truly believe they have the same level of skill as the famous guys.

I really hope to see more of these guys in more professional shot/ editing movies.

great Kung Fu movie

I'm a big fan of martial arts movies and i think nowadays it's quite difficult to find a movie with legible fight scenes and an interesting scenario that make you watch the whole movie. Die Fighting is one of those that keep you on your seat until the end cause it's not only about the martial arts but also about something real, human, that could have happen, not some vendetta crap like we often see those days. I think the idea of the plot was quite imaginative and genuine. About the martial arts, the choreography was amazing,Wushu style(Chinese martial arts)the directing was great with actual shots where you can see the actors are real martial artists,(like The Raid)i think this movie was made with brio

OK story and really good fight scenes

i don't know why guys said it was bad acting and bad fight scenes. what were they watching? the acting was OK and story was OK for a low budget movie but the fight scenes were very good. i watched almost every martial arts films that came out and these guys can fight. these guys were trained from shaolin so i don't know why guys wrote that it had bad fight scenes. there were some plot holes, but what movie doesn't? but most importantly the fight scenes, which why u watch these kinds of movies for, made up for any shortcomings. i hope these guys make more movies and for the haters, i don't know what u were watching or have against these guys.

Dear, Martial Arts Action Fans - Watch This

For all the direct to DVD action movies that usually hit the bargain bin their are a few hidden gems among them. Die Fighting would definitely rank up their as one of the better titles that are a part of the genre. Fabien Garcia is definitely a name to look out for in the future for the genre. The movie provides on a wall-to-wall succession of impressively shot and choreographed fight sequences that are sure to provide thrills. Of course the acting may not be the greatest, but the main actors do perform their own stunts and combat sequences which surely earn them respect for action fans. The story may remind you of another solid martial arts action movie BKO: Bangkok Knockout, but they do add a twist in their to make it more unique and fact that the story and characters pretty much mirror the real life of the actors makes it more interesting to watch. Overall, a must watch for fans of movies like Undisputed II and III, Ninja II and other Direct to DVD/video action titles. If your one of those guys who enjoys these types of films, than sit back and enjoy the action and don't think too much.

Great Action Movie

I really loved DIE FIGHTING. This movie highlights the awesome fighting and choreography skills of Z TEAM. The action is non-stop, and the fights deliver powerful, acrobatic punches, kicks, elbows, and knees that you feel right down to the bone. No extreme close-ups or "shakey-cam" to cover bad choreography. Just great action! The plot is simple enough to follow, but the twists are exciting and keep the characters motivated to the end. It reminded me of THE RAID and UNDISPUTED 3. The fights are some of the best Hong Kong style fights I've seen. The skills of the fighters are amazing, and each has a unique style, which is refreshing. The editing was sharp, and the soundtrack was very nice. I would definitely recommend this movie to action fans. Check it out today!

"Play your part and survive"

Among the several martial arts performance groups making names for themselves in the movie business, the Z Team is definitely among those worth watching. Though one of its members – Laurent Buson – has already been generously highlighted in MERANTAU, their first feature length team production here is a different kind of project and pretty unique as far as fight flicks go. Though this genre-bending adventure takes a few creative and technical chances that don't pay off and will limit this one's appeal among viewers, it ought to appeal just fine among people who value martial excellence and are ready for a slightly different kind of street brawler.

The story: A team of martial arts performers trying to make it big in Hollywood is forced by a sadistic, omniscient filmmaker to fights for the lives of their loved ones in a series of life-and-death brawls.

The film is a fairly dark action-thriller. Imagine THE CONDEMNED shot by a director of the SAW series, with an emphasis on martial arts. Nevertheless, the decision of the actors to play themselves (led by director Fabien Garcia) makes this feel a little like a vanity project, and the semi-realistic approach to the scenario makes the very flashy karate look out-of-place at first. However, once the movie starts finding its pace, it begins to feel more natural, especially as mystery transcends any character shortcomings and the quality of the brawls becomes stellar. The decision to film this as a pseudo-documentary is odd but handled about as maturely as possible: at best, the camera-work is standard enough that you forget what kind of a movie this is supposed to be, and even at its worst, you never get the erratic, debilitating camera-work of "Blair Witch" knockoffs.

The fight scenes are more than decent to begin with but ultimately develop into fight-of-the-year contenders. The ten full-length fights are evenly split between one-on-one and one-against-many exchanges, and in both cases, the performers demonstrate the necessary ingenuity to stand out against the competition. The first fights lack a little power – giving the impression of a bunch of guys just throwing spin kicks until someone drops – and director Garcia's love of Dutch angles is not entirely conducive to filming dynamic brawls, but the quality of the matches rises quickly and dramatically. A scene wherein Garcia battles a karate dojo is particularly cool, the showdown between Didier Buson and Xin Sarith Wuku is a showstopper, and the lengthy slugfest between Garcia and Laurent Buson is a worthy finale. If anything, I wish the fights could have been even more creative: in one scene, the filmmaker demands that Garcia fight a violent gang using only drunken boxing techniques, and a few more stipulations of this sort could have made for even more interesting exchanges.

The eventual twist at the end of the movie may or may not satisfy viewers, but personally, I thought it was pretty cool. Additionally, the amplitude of performers trying to act their way through thick French accents may be off-putting to some viewers, but anyone who can sit through a Van Damme movie should be fine. Altogether, this amounts to a movie that could have been a lot better but isn't actually in too shabby of shape to begin with. The Z Team seems capable of matching its ambition as deftly as, say, Eric Jacobus and his Stunt People, and I expect good things from them in the future. In the meantime, I recommend DIE FIGHTING as at least a rental.

Watch it just for the mixed-martial art, you'll laugh at the rest.

This doesn't need to be one of those movies you will ignore by from the ratings or reviews. There have been plenty worse movies with a better cast and a bigger budget. Even though it's got one of the worst act on screen, the accents hurt your ears and a very very poor script with a faulty twist in the end. Yes, Yes there is plenty to mourn about this movie.

But one thing it serves up is some amazing mixed martial art. Its just a bunch of actors trying to gain more recognition by putting out their talents out there, which is quiet impressive and you almost end up feeling sorry for them. Most of the actors in this movie have played high profile stunt roles in some big movies and this is just their beginner project they have served up for you to give it a chance at the very least.

Except the action the rest of the elements drag you down, but the coordination between the actors is really good. With better direction and a bigger budget this would have definitely been a gem and yes maybe work on their accents a little bit.

Hey don't take my word for it,watch it to judge it but DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING MORE THAN SOME GOOD MIXED MARTIAL ART, and I mean anything!

For all fans of martial arts films Die Fighting is definitely one to see

The film revolves around a band of actors who wish to become major action stars, when one day the lead Fabian gets a mysterious phone call saying that his wife has been kidnapped and the four friends must follow all directions from the mystery man on the phone. The actors soon learn that they are part of a film and they must use their martial arts skills to take on all comers or Fabian's wife will be killed….

It's a low budget but despite that the story is very entertaining for a martial movie, some acting part could have been better but the most important film part of any martial arts movie is whether the fight scenes are good or not and they are truly amazing, all scenes are beautifully choreographed. This is the most enjoyable martial arts movie that I have seen, since the raid.

For all fans of martial arts films Die Fighting is definitely one to see.

Top notch kick-ass action

When you prepare yourself to watch a low budget action film, you can expect there's going to be a certain amount of gratuitous violence executed in a style that might be considered passable at best. But Fabien, Lohan, and their "Z Team" deliver spectacular balls-out choreography, brilliantly executed, at par or better than most big budget feature films. And much like any Jackie Chan film, story isn't really that important, but this is actually a fairly cool premise with a satisfying twist. Keep an eye on these guys. I'm sure we'll be seeing them again soon. That is if they don't beat the crap out of each other first.

What we've all been hoping for

The trailer looked promising and the movie definitely delivered.

The plot is really good for a martial arms film. It was suspenseful and kept me guessing until the end. I became emotionally invested in what was going which is always a sign of good film making. Without spoiling anything, the ending wasn't what I wanted. Overall the movie is really well made. Occasionally near the beginning, a little of the dialogs is difficult to hear but this is a minor problem.

The acting is decent. The lead actors are martial artists first and foremost so its unreasonable to expect A list actor quality performances. The actors conveyed the emotions needed without seeming cheesy, awkward or weird. For a martial arts film the acting was pretty good.

The martial arts in the movie are very impressive. There are numerous fight scenes and they are all well choreographed and executed. Slow mo is sparsely used, there's no wires and no CGI to replace the genuine action.

In summary, very good fight scenes and highly recommended for action fans. Definitely looking forward to what Z Team Films produces in the future.
