Went to watch a movie after long. It takes a good surprise quotient to make me appreciate a film. , critics reviews raised my expectations. I did not wanted to see another documented evidence. And wow! Then this film struck like a fresh wave, eyes wide opened, and glued to my seat I watched and enjoyed every moment in the awe as the scenes unfold. Small emotions and unsaid dialogue topped with brilliant music integrating into the story of the film made the film must watchable.. Characters cleanly laid out, with their flaws in them makes them memorable . A nice execution of a nice script from a skilled and pro director. Must watch and an entertainer.

The movie provides an excellent insight into the concept of sleeper cells and the way they protect the country's interests, very often at the cost of their life and conscience.

The movie is about a wanted Pakistani terrorist holed up in Pakistan. Knowing the importance of the suspect, the Indian secret service agency authorizes a covert operation for the extraction of Iqbal Sheikh (played by Rishi Kapoor).

Four RAW agents are chosen to carry out the extraction. These agents led by Aslam, Zoya (Huma Qureishi), Rudra Pratap (Arjun Ramphal) and Wali Khan (Irfan Khan) hatch a plan to extract Iqbal Sheikh from his sons wedding. However, the plan gets botched up and these four agents are on the run. Also, at the same time, each of the protagonists are going through serious emotional upheaval due to the dual lives that they are leading. For e.g. Wali Khan is a simple barber, doting father and at the same time a RAW agent. His family is unaware of his identity and unfortunately get caught at the crossroads.

Each of the characters goes through their own process of redemption for the feeling of guilt that they harbor and the love for their motherland. That is actually the beauty of the movie. In fact, of all the spy movies that have been made in India, this easily is the best of all. I would actively recommend it for movie aficionados.

D-Day is a kind of step taken by Bollywood , wherein it shows nailing of the most wanted criminal of India. Perhaps, since it never happened so the movie makes you feel will this ever happen?

The story telling of the movie is very gripping, somehow the length(2 hrs 35 mins) is kinda draggy but its OK as the movie keeps the audience at the edge of their seat till the end. Its a welcome return of director Nikhil Advani whose last couple of films have met drowning ends. Technically , D-Day is one of the brilliant movies to come in recent times.

Music is at its place as the timing of "mast kalandar", "Alvida" and "Dhuan" is perfect and make you feel the situation.

Performance wise Irffan stands out as Wali Khan. Rishi Kapoor enacts role of 'Goldman' Iqbal in a confident way and we feel that he is transforming even today. Arjun is superb as rough Rudra. Huma qureshi's performance is great as usual. Akash Dahiya as Aslam is a performer to watch out too. Shruti Hasan does great justice to the cameo kind of role in the movie. Chandan Roy Sanyal as nephew of Iqbal is flawless. Nassar and Sandeep Kulkarni in their brief appearances are solid.

D-Day will appeal to the kind of audience who like watching movies made with realistic approach. Its a blend of all in one. A movie which deserves a watch.

The 1993 train bomb blasts, 26/11 terrorist attack on the city that never sleep and Hyderabad blasts prompt us all to think that why the roots of all these evils can't be destroyed. We start to wonder that if America can assassinate the terrorist Osama Bin Laden who brought about the attacks of twin towers in USA, why can't we take down the country's most old and dangerous enemy. The answer to our question pops up after watching this movie 'D-Day' directed by Nikhil Advani.

The filmmaker who made romantic comedy films like Kal Ho Na Ho, Salam-E- Ishq & Patiala House steps out of his genre and delivers an outstanding film based on the world's most wanted criminal mastermind. Artistically crafted on celluloid, D-Day lives up to its expectations which were looming amongst the audience as soon as the promos released. You would expect a fantastic spy thriller on the parallel lines of 'Zero Dark Thirty' (obviously eliminating its hollowness) and I am sure you won't be disappointed.

A beautiful wedding scene at the beginning which happens to be the underworld Don's son's wedding reception is located in a beautiful 5- star hotel in Pakistan. Splendidly decorated wedding hall, guests arriving in rich & grand outfits and a short Rajpal Yadav singing ' Damadam Mast Kalandar' in background witnesses an infiltration by four agents on a mission. A thrilling scene shot perfectly without any ambiguity shows how the four agents successfully captivate the Don who happens to arrive at his son's wedding.

The film flies back 40 days before the Goldman operation ( as it is so named after the Don) where Irrfan Khan (Walia) as an undercover RAW agent working as a barber in Pakistan lives with his wife Nafisa and his son Kabir who are kept in dark from his original identity. This part shows affection he had for his wife and his children and a fear that this affection somehow can prove his big weakness in future starts to haunt him. The former half of D-Day mainly introduces the main characters of the film in a well-defined manner.

Arjun Rampal plays Captain Rudra Prasad Singh, an ex-Army officer who is dismissed from his military duty because of an undisclosed reason. Of all the four agents participating in this mission, Rudra is the most short-tempered and eccentric one. He walks with a well build stature reflecting his army officer persona wherever he goes. The film is not just mere hyped action film but also involves a romantic angle between Rudra and Suraiya (Shruti Hasaan), a prostitute in Karachi's red light district. Rudra lives in red light area in Karachi to conceal his true identity from Pakistani locals and ends up falling for Suraiya.

Huma Qureshi as Zoya Rehman is beautiful, determined, intelligent and straight forward agent. She has the capability to camouflage easily and successfully with the local Pakistan people so as to not arouse suspicion. The fourth agent is played by Aakash Dahiya as Aslam who is charged of three murders and is offered a release in exchange of helping RAW in their secret mission by chief of RAW, Ashwini Rao.

Just as the Goldman operation goes abruptly wrong, Goldman escapes from the scene, just inches after being captivated and turns his sources after these four agents. These agents are searched for by Pakistan's ISI agency and also by Goldman's men as they their lives are turned upside down after their unfortunate failure in the operation.

Rishi Kapoor playing the underworld Don could have been the pivotal part of the film but unfortunately he is not. Irrfan Khan and Arjun Rampal happen to be high points of the film as each of them handles their role effectively. We have some smart dialogue writing by Niranjan Iyengar who had contributed large to dialogues in Once Upon A Time in Mumbai also making an equally vital contribution to the D-Day.

The film could have been emotionally stronger and the conclusion could have appeared more convincing than it appears to be. But apart from it, the film is phenomenal and outstanding if we overlook its slight deviation to a personal angle at its end. Just like most of the Hindi films, D-Day symbolizes Bollywood's long standing fascination to Dawood Ibrahim. However it showcases the slight swagger and invincibility, this movie possesses.

But overall, a great work by Nikhil Advani in his first ever spy thriller action movie. A 6/10 stars for D-Day from me.

Nikhil Advani has finally come of age and moved out of the shadows of his larger- than-life mentor (read Karan Johar). After promising a lot in previous efforts, which have ranged from decent to below par, he's finally churned out a film that speaks volumes of his until now dormant talent. In "D-Day" we get a gritty action thriller that would put quite a few Hollywood spy films to shame.

The authentic representation of spy operations and the attention to minute details is quite staggering and unprecedented in Indian cinema, at least for a movie of this magnitude. Along with it boasting of quite a few spectacular action scenes and hard-hitting dialogues (dialogue writers Niranjan Iyengar and Ritesh Shah, take a bow), the film is also subtly interwoven with a couple of delicate emotional tracks that literally tear at your heartstrings when their realization is achieved.

The movie might have a first-rate and thoroughly researched script (again credit goes to Advani plus his co-writers Ritesh Shah and Suresh Nair), but it wouldn't have struck such a profound impact almost instantly, if it wasn't for Nikhil Advani's spot-on direction that's replete with realistic action and pulsating suspense. However,equal credit for the movie's suspense and action scenes must go to the editing team (Unnikrishnan Payoor Parameswaran and Aarif Sheikh) and stunt director (John Street) respectively. Another reason why the movie looks so realistic and gritty is because of Tushar Kanti Ray spellbinding cinematography.

Finally, lets come to the performances, and what marvelous performances they are. Rishi Kapoor is literally a replica of India's most wanted man, while Arjun Rampal is the epitome of a hardcore, taciturn action hero. Huma Qureshi surprises us even further with yet another brilliant act, while supporting cast members like Aakash Dahiya, Shruti Haasan, and Nasser lend plenty of gravitas to the narrative.

And finally, its the powerhouse of talent, Irrfan Khan who completely steals the show all the way through, in spite of so many other resounding performances. Whether it be his angst, his emotional trauma, his trepidation, his anguish at not being as skillful as Rampal, his fear and love for his family, his delirious confusion, his patriotic convictions, or his hidden final agenda; the man pulls off one of the most complex characters to ever grace the Indian silver screen with elan and aplomb. Here is an actor who can literally do no wrong.

"D-Day" is the kind of movie that doesn't come very often, - at least in Bollywood - so don't miss up the opportunity of reveling in it on the big screen. Whether you're an action fan, a fan of suspenseful spy films, or a fan of realistic gritty cinema, this movie has ample reason to be visited again and again. This kind of an action-espionage thriller is a first for Indian cinema and a pure joy for action movie fans all over.

Stereotypes are thwarted in this movie about how the RAW chief plans a secret mission in the current unconventional time (2013). The climax is the sequence I have been waiting for since long to watch in a movie and that is the single why, why I rate it 6.4/10!

Arjun Rampal is suave, Huma Qureshi is hot & plump, Irrfan is genuine, Rishi Kapoor is marvelous while Nasser complements the cast. While their demeanor is brilliant, the performance acts against the plot, speaking of which is immensely fabricated. Since even I don't know what's the truth about terrorism, I am not ridiculing the writer's script. The way the makers have handled the underworld & terrorism factors comes as a shock to me. They have included few facts as well as adopted boldness.

Music & songs are good, cinematography is average, direction is fine & screenplay is garbage. When the plot turns into action sequences, the screenplay tries hard to spoil it, but it sure seems made-up towards the end to bring about a thrilling effect. Crime & violence is prevalent throughout with less to no humor.

Out of the 140 minutes, the boredom meter ticks four-to-five times when monotony enters. Relationship virtue is the basis of second half whereas run-of-the-mill combative melodrama fills the first.

BOTTOM LINE: Recommended to people who love action films which doesn't involve confusion or complex twists.

D DAY: i would say a very good movie with a very good direction. As expected Irfaan Khan showed his talent again and his acting is worth to watch.Rishi Kapoor is now emerging as one of the best Villains in the movies now after Amrish Puri.Started from Agneepath to Aurangzeb and now in D DAY , his acting, dialogs ..just awesome :).

The movie doesn't looses its pace , because of which the audience will never get bored in the movie.Irfaan Khan won the hearts of the people because of his simplicity and delivery of his dialogs. I would say one should obviously go to watch this movie.Its worth watching.A very good movie after "The Wednesday".

Underworld and terrorism has always been a tantalizing topic for Bollywood film-makers and this time, its Nikhil Advani who plunges into this dark and alien terrain with his modern spy thriller,D-Day. With a great deal of implicit

inspiration from the much-acclaimed,Zero Dark Thirty, D-Day is about the hunt for India's most wanted man,Sultan(played by Rishi Kapoor) called operation Goldman.

An undercover RAW agent in Pakistan ,Wali(Irrfan Khan) comes close to pinning Sultan, when the latter comes out of hiding to attend his son's wedding.Things get doubly interesting when Rudra Pratap(Arjun Rampal)an ex-army official , Zoya Rehman(Huma Qureshi)RAW Explosives agent and Aslam(Akash Dahiya),a petty crook from the streets of Mumbai are deployed by RAW Chief,Ashwini Rao(Nasser) to join the operation.However, their mission takes a wrong turn and things go south making their lives irreversibly intertwined.

A script centered around India's most wanted, with obvious references to the mafia king,Dawood instantly generates immense curiosity but Nikhil surprises us with his ferocious detailing and technical finesse.His migration from the comfort zone(sentimental flicks like Patiala House, Kal Ho Naa Ho) is a testament to his maturity and growth as a director.With some raw and gritty action sequences,stirring some facts with fiction, he not only sets the perfect recipe for a nail-biting thriller but also laces them with intense emotional interludes.Specially, the brief sequences of Irrfan and his family bring a lump in your throat.Cinematography is top-notch which makes us believe that it is really shot in Karachi.Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music is seamlessly integrated with the gripping narrative.'Alvida' is arguably the best soundtrack of the movie , most hauntingly yet beautifully picturized.Dialogues are superb.

D-Day boasts of an ensemble starcast.Rishi Kapoor plays a negative character yet again and he amazes us with his venomous intensity and wit.Arjun Rampal,with his brooding looks and menacing physique is outstanding.He speaks volumes with his silence which is going to shut the critics' mouth who labeled him as wooden.Shruti Haasan, in a cameo, lends a lot of vulnerability to her character.Irrfan Khan is amazingly consistent and gets to deftly depict the character of the man torn between duty and family.Huma Qureshi and Dahiya are very much competent in their respective roles.Shreeswara,playing Irrfan's wife is quite a revelation !Nasser and KK Raina are adequate.

On the whole, D-Day is an earnest attempt to make a fictionalized potboiler, the finale might boast of jingoistic overdose but its certainly worth a watch.Alert : Not for the weak-hearted(a bit high on blood and gore).

No plot.. very predictable.. it's all over the place .. avoid it

>> D-Day :: He has had failed starts in the past with Chandni Chowk TO China ,Patiala House and Salaam-e-Ishq, received redemption with Delhi Safari and has finally come to terms with the 'D-Day'. Yes, this one's a Nikhil Advani baby. The flick starts with a huntdown - Operation Goldman to bring home the Most Wanted Man on India'a wishlist, scampers off to the protagonists' past and the emotional turmoils each of em go through. Irrfan's a guy torn b/w family , the risks of business , Rampal (one of the best of the lot ! a better performance than his Rock On outing and a marked improvement from the days of 'Asambhav') is a tough,level headed ex army men fighting with the ghosts within. Huma's calm and composed in her role, Shruti Hasan s adorable. Its unfortunate ,but I found Rishi Kapoor -the 'bhai' miscast and ludicrously laughable at times and was more so undone by the stretched climax of the movie and the flaws that ranged from him being all tidy and well suited even as a car with huge amount of explosives burst right next to him, yes even the shades were intact.. Lol !! :-P . The best act (apart from Rampal offcourse!) comes from Chandan Roy Sanyal , playing Goldman's nephew here. Long,messed up hair,like those of a reggae lover and an evil guy you love to hate, rightfully deserved those whistles you would hear from the crowd when he gets his fateful end, starts from where he ended in Kaminey. As for Kapoor ,who fails otherwise but delivers one of the last dialogues of the movie which save the finale potholes for Advani. The portrayal of the Prime Minister who is constantly given instructions on the phone by somebody referred to merely as "Madam" is a nice caricature :) Am going with a 3* outta 5 for D-Day, its well researched and at a decent run time for just over 2.5 hrs , D-Day is a pretty watchable ...But it has its share of crests and troughs and those last 20 minutes or so, where Advani goofs up pulling a Zero Dark Thirty sequence, for that extra ounce of Patriotism hit I guess are the ones that stops it from being more than just an 'okayish- good' flick.

Hindi Cinema has not seen many well made, box office successes in the particular genre of spy-thrillers. Hence firstly, D-DAY & its makers deserve a special appreciation just for making a brave choice of this genre alone and then further it needs to be applauded for an exceptional execution which certainly reminds you of many well made foreign movies in the 'World cinema'. Plus its really a pleasant surprise that it's a Nikhil Advani film, the man behind KAL HO NA HO (2003), SALAAM-E-ISHQ (2007), CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA (2009) and PATIALA HOUSE (2011).

As speculated, D-DAY is not just another Gangster movie from Bollywood as it may sound looking at its promos. Instead it's actually the first thoughtful film from our makers, which focuses on bringing back the most wanted man to the Indian Territory for justice and simply not interested in glorifying the crime mafia and The Don following the usual norms. Hence it's a welcome change as far as the subject is concerned and further it has been handled too with an equal amount of intelligence and courage.

The film begins with a fabulous 10 minutes of a well conceived sequence wherein the Indian RAW agents are just about to meet The MAN, whom they wish to steal away back. And then its fast intercuts, well composed background score and the unusual camera movements simply give you an indication that this is not a routine stuff from the director this time, probably less appealing to the general public. At times the realistic indicative references of the wanted man, his son's big marriage and a renowned cricketer, makes you feel both exciting and scary (particularly the one in the Mosque). The first half has many similar well directed sequences and it truly feels like watching a great spy thriller made in an international style, rarely seen in Indian Cinema.

Post intermission, the excellence continues but the pace drops for a while with some avoidable long sequences. The final moments of the film keep you guessing and then it offers a surprising twist leading to a largely satisfying end of a gripping film. But if only, they had taken care of some visible glitches, D-DAY could have become a winning masterpiece of Hindi Cinema undoubtedly.

Pointing out its limitations, the basic storyline of the film is quite close to the concept of ZERO DARK THIRSTY (2013) and Shatrujeet Nath's novel titled THE KARACHI DECEPTION, which can entirely be called a fiction with an unimaginable Indian mission, to be imagined in dreams. Secondly, the added sub-plot of Arjun-Shruti love affair is completely forced in to cater the commercial needs of the project, since a hugely dedicated 'Army Officer' would never ideally indulge in such suicidal activities during his important national mission at all. Lastly, the terror of the Most Wanted Man in the first half, goes missing in the later reels and the Don's character becomes more of a caricature type in the concluding hour.

However, moving over the above mentioned drawbacks, technically it's truly a well executed film made with some brave and honest intentions. Following an extremely quality narrative, not normally seen in our Hindi Cinema, D-DAY is sure going to impress the classes more than the masses. The art department never lets you feel the sets and that's exactly what an art director is trying to do in his given job. The camera-work reminds you of many well made international projects and never gives you the feel of watching a typical Hindi film. The writing and dialogues contributes a lot, except in the last hour where in the writers slightly go over imaginative and too easy in the final border crossings.

The music section adds a new dimension to the film (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) with a worth listening Qawwali "Mera Murshad Khele Holi" heard after a long time and a well composed, written & sung track, "Alvida". In addition there is Rekha Bhardawaj superbly singing "Ek Ghadi" to complete an appreciable soundtrack by the trio.

In the performances, once again we have Rishi Kapoor continuing his enjoyable journey of re-discovering the hidden actor, forgetting his own famous lover boy image of the past. It really takes guts to think of him as The Don, but the veteran does look, act and behave like him on the screen, quite astonishingly. Yet, I do wish the director should have emphasized on the terror factor more in the second half.

As the RAW agents, Irrfan repeatedly gives a stunning performance caught in the dilemma, especially towards the end. Arjun surprises with an extremely intense performance, particularly excelling himself in the song 'Alvida'. Huma confidently manages to find her decent space standing in between the towering performers and Shruti Haasan shows another glimpse of her unexplored talent as the prostitute.

In the supporting cast, Sriswara is a great revelation and both Aakash Dahiya and Chandan Roy Sanyal leave a lasting impact along with Nasser. K.K. Raina, Nissar Khan and Sandeep Kulkarni act well in their supporting acts but Rajpal Yadav was a wrong choice to begin the film as a singer.

Altogether, D-DAY does have its own share of hiccups and some usual commercial insertions to make it more viable. Still, it remains the most innovative, well structured and well shot spy movie from Bollywood, surely deserving appreciation from the lovers of this particular genre. But it also has a strange contradiction as I felt, since the most impressive & emotionally moving sub-plot in its script (of Arjun- Shruti), also happens to be the only unwanted insertion in the movie as per its genre. And without it, D-Day would have been a totally focused and taut, high energy, fast paced, thriller unarguably.

Hence with that strange paradox, I would like to recommend watching D- DAY as a must since this is indeed the next step in making GANGSTER movies thoughtfully taken by Bollywood.

Yesterday Irrfan sir and today rishi ji left for an unpredictable journey leaving the whole Bollywood industry as an orphan and to pay them a tribute in my own way I watched this gem starring both the legends Rishi ji as usual played his role with full honesty (definitely) Irrfan sir always an amazing actor (once he said "People never watch my movies because of my face but because of my acting " and this was one of his greatest achievement) A must watch

The movies pace is gripping and good. But how dumb can those for agents be. I happen to know some raw guys and if you speak to them then you'll know how smart and brilliant they are. The stupid mistakes and terrible planning of catching the terrorist. It's pure drama filmy to show all the stupid mistakes so the suspense remains. But that actually shows how terrible the agents were. Abs irrfan khan. How can he do the same acting on every movie. You pick his dialogues for any movie and out a montage, I can bet you can never guess what movie or what role is he playing. Good editing and frames makes it look real and interesting. The screenplay makes it Bollywood. I wish they had seen greenzone by paul green grass and picked some ideas of directing.

coming of age cinema is being churned out every other week with directors experimenting with different themes with likes of lootera n now d-day. This flick from bollywood stables is such a breath of fresh air, with its spy cum action theme. Right from the word go, director has managed to keep the things tight n keep the audience glued to their seats ably complemented by the good acts of arjun rampal, rishy kapoor(the businessman) n irfan khan.. Special mention n praises to both the lead actors who keep the momentum going.. Also noteworthy is the background score which helps the movie in a big way, especially alvida where the hero puts into pieces the slaying of his love interest, beautifully done.. Though the film weakens post interval but the "Changing India" ending does make up for it... recommended...

This is by far one of the best thriller movie of Hindi. I don't understand why it did not receive the amount of success it deserved. Irfan,Arjun,Huma,Shruti & Rishi all did great job.So as the director Nikhil Advani.As a crime drama, it works perfectly well.Very gripping story.D-Day is a well-researched, purposefully executed film. Much of the action takes places in 'actual' Karachi locations - the red light district of Napier Road, the busy thoroughfare of Empress Market and the environs of Qasim Port, among others.The back stories and the emotional compulsions of the secret agents form a significant component of the story line.Some songs are also great like Alvida,Dhuaan.A must watch movie,just go for it.

FINAL VERDICT :- * Overall.... this movie have some breaks and This is not a Family Entertainer ... but a good thriller ..so we have to stay clear till end .....

D Day is a first hand account of the incredible mission that was undertaken by the Indian Secret Service agents to capture the most elusive and most wanted man in India. Irrfan Khan,Arjun Rampal,Shruti Haasan.

It has a story revolving around a man who-need-not-be-named, apart from the trying to capture him and bring him back angle, all aspects have been earlier seen and re-seen. The movie is patriotic, to the core and the Director has done absolute justice in putting it across. Sometimes it falters, stretches, falls on its back but gets up with gusto. The story is simple, the struggle between personal and professional commitments is captured well. It has an idealistic perspective, a different point of view, good concept and well treated. Rishi kapoor outstanding, arjun rampal and irfan khan brilliant. Plus it was nice to see ellisbridge, 3darwaja and a lot of other familiar places from Ahmedabad on silver screen!!
