HAWAII! Everyone's heard of it. Many have visited. Most have an idea of what they picture when they think of Hawaii. But you don't know Hawaii unless you immerse yourself in its culture. And I don't mean the Hula in Waikiki. (Although there is nothing wrong with that.) I mean it's deeper culture. It's history. It's language. It's people. It's traditions. There are sooooo many reason to watch this film. Not only is the Island itself a star of the show, but it's an education crafted into a beautiful story. The Hawaiian history and mythology is very accurate. And the ending has a message that all humans need to hear right now. Seriously, pay attention to the words of the song towards the end. It's a beautiful arthouse vibe film with a beautiful message. As if supporting independent filmmakers and the importance of elevating independent voices, weren't enough. You'll also feast on beautiful cinematography and a delightful story.
At Her Feet presents an authentic story revolving around the physical volcano on the Big Island of Hawai'i, along with tying in the mythological/creation myth of the volcano. The characters are well rounded, the tension of a natural tectonic area is palpable, and the cultural elements are done well. Good casting, visual effects, and storytelling. Excellent for armchair traveling in an authentic way. Music is original and on-point. Sound effects of lava cooling, crackling add to the sensory experience of it all. Location siting of different kinds of cooled and not-so-cooled lava is also beautiful and mezmerising.
I and a completely full theater saw Nadya Wynd's film At Her Feet tonight. Nadya wrote directed and produced this well told story with beautiful cinematography ,a great cast and meaningful and sensitive regard for the Hawaiian culture. From the moment the film began we, the audience, were pulled into the majestic beauty of the land and the depth of Spirit presence that holds these islands- in particular Pele on the Big Island. Nadya let her characters reveal themselves to us which made them very familiar and understandable without feeling contrived. We moved right along with them on their journey across the lava fields as all their relations with each other unfolded and we felt their affection and care, dangers and fears, resentments and torment, courage and willingness to find right action, purpose and human kindness. I respect how Nadya made sure her story was told as she felt it needed to be told- by writing, directing and producing this beautiful story all by herself! And i sincerely hope whatever needs to happen will happen so the movie going public can see and enjoy this wonderful film!
At Her Feet is Hawaii's eye candy at its best featuring scenes from jungles to volcanic lava flows (the green screen tech is well done).
The entire cast is believable and endearing. You'll find yourself rooting for them along the way.
And the story is satisfying, has a clear teaching moments and a moral to the story making this a worthy family entertainment option for you and your family - kids included - it's wholesome and full of the Aloha Spirit.
And thankfully it's absent the kind of indigenous culture references and local pandering that Hawaii film's all to often resort to. It's legit. See it. 🤙

I can't rate this film High Enough! I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it from the beginning to the very end. I've never gotten to visit Hawaii and most likely won't in my lifetime, but this film gave me the feeling of actually being there and being able to experience it firsthand! Nadya Wynd and her crew did a superb job of putting together this film that I would recommend to audiences of all ages! This is the very first time I've actually enjoyed a film enough to give a review. I plan on watching this film many more times and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a film that their entire family can enjoy. Superb acting was done by all in bringing their characters to life, as well as bringing a little bit of Hawaii into my living room:-).
