Skylanders: Giants

This is the most technologically advanced game on any console, but is best played on the Playstation 3. There are so many characters and variations. It is a children's game but most adults will have a fun time playing it as well. My son received the game as a Christmas present and it is the only game that he loves to play, and he is three. Some may find the extra add-on characters too expensive, but well worth the cost. They are best purchased online (Amazon.com is the best and cheapest).

"Skylanders: Giants" has 16 playable levels and an extra four levels if you want to purchase them. There are hours of fun you can have playing this game with the variations that are available. The giant's portion of the game is what sets it apart from the first game (Spyro's Adventure). However there are only eight giants available in this game, along with 32 other characters including Lightcore characters which when placed on the Portal, light up.

There are also two battlepacks available for add-on to the game, the Scorpion Striker and the Dragonfire Cannon. Each is a new magic item and has its own abilities. An amazing game!

Some things remained the same, some things changed/improved.

The same: A family friendly dungeon-crawler style game where you can use previous figures or new ones. Familiar control scheme. Voices, animations, overall consistency is similar to the first. Multiple chapters at about a half hour to an hour a piece. Some area seem to be a little difficult to figure out and had to web look-up a few stuck points.

Changed/Improved: Story progression, delving deeper into Skylanders lore and environment. More 'on-rails' shooter scenes where your piloting ships, robots, and such. Overall difficulty level seemed scaled back a bit, which I appreciated. Giants skylanders can be used to open special areas on the map or are alternatives to using previous methods. Skystones mini-game is fun. My personal favourite is the boss Drill-X has a robot rap when fighting him.

A ton of fun, excellent balance between familiarity with Spyro's Adventure and introducing new changes. Looking forward to starting Swap Force!

This game is extremely fun! The only gripe is the cost of figures, but you don't even need them all to 100% the game. Can't figure out how to beat a level? Well, there's a tutorial somewhere, this game has been out for 12 years. The graphics may be old, but they're charming. The music of phenomenal, the story is great, there is nothing that I could possibly want to change about this. The music is so good, that I use the main theme from the level "Glacier Gully" to help me fall asleep! This game was also the first video game I had ever played, I still remover my mom bringing home the game, and my sister and I fighting over it, before she never wanted to play video games.
