1962 Halloween Massacre

It seems this movie just came out days ago and I couldn't even bear the first 10 minutes. I find it entertaining that while it's supposed to be set in 1962, these characters are using phrases like "take a chill pill".

The movie opens up with 4 very annoying people, talking in such a pretentious manner, especially the two girls. I guess we are to assume they are well off, as one rambles about her chauffeur and security. What makes it strange is that I believe they are talking as if that's how they spoke back in the early 60s, using odd verbiage. Seriously, I couldn't bear it and turned it off.

Got sucked in even though the opening scene was a bit long (it did set the story up in the end though). Also the dialogue was a little hard to hear which was disappointing and I think the subtitles were machine generated because they really didn't match. It was slow and the story subtle (maybe too subtle? But I liked it). Are horror fans too picky? Maybe everyone is seems like so many people come on here to just bash movies lol ... I'm not huge into horror which may be why I enjoyed this? It's as micro budget as it gets, and coming here to write this review, makes sense that it's so bare bones as they shot it in 4 days. By that metric decided to give it a 10 even though its a 6 or so. Cool to see some upbeat energy from actors, everyone is always whisper acting now. Dang why I gotta write more for this review to be published. Okay, I would watch a sequel.

I am reviewing this under the criteria that it was shot in 4 days on budget of 25k... because having worked in the film industry yes that is impressive to do a feature with that little money in that little time.

If you are looking for formula horror, especially a genre slasher, you are going to be disappointed. But for me (especially given it's a free Tubi movie) it was refreshing to see something focus on character and story in the horror genre. Actually I was surprised I was able to not only finish it but stay engaged from start to finish (as I've tried to watch other low budget horror movies on Tubi and have never made it past 10 minutes until now).

Being something of a cinephile I was pleasantly surprised by the references to the horror films of its time (The Innocents, Peeping Tom) and the cinema/Marilyn Monroe obsessed killer was a nice touch to unearth the behind the scenes revenge plot (reminded me of Dario Argento villains). While someone did point out the anachronistic "chill pill" line, even big budget studio movies have anachronisms in period pieces, rather tenuous thing to trash an entire movie over...

Also to the review that mentioned FBI - there is no FBI anywhere in the movie, without giving anything away several lines of dialogue indicate they are private security that have worked directly with the rich Pharma families for many years... you can dislike a movie surely but should at least be accurate in what you're basing your criticism on...

If you're looking for the usual genre frills probably not for you but if your looking for a small film that tries to do something different I would say give this 80 min slow burner shot in 4 days with 25 thousand bones a shot.

Also kudos to wherever they found these actors plus the subtlety of the script - not to mention the continuous flowing camerawork and long take approach.

Rating it 10 to offset the lazy hate but I'd say it's a 6.7/10 more accurately.

All in all it's like a B Horror movie cozied up with a fringe arthouse film and popped out a pensive little creation, I got what the filmmakers were up to... Would love to see what they could do with more time and a bigger budget.

Tis was the worst movie I've ever seen! The making was very bad, the camera never got away from their faces, the acting was even worse. It felt like the intro was half of the movies. The lines were very bad made, they kept saying the most random things. This looked like what a bunch of kind would record with their phone.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, if the description of this movie was, something made in two hours as a joke, I would understand and maybe give it a rating of 2, but no.

I never would have written a review, or given a movie a 1 star rating but, I feel like an hour and a half of my life was wasted.

Message to the production and actors, NEVER MAKE A MOVIE AGAIN!!

And even though I watched it for free on a streaming service, I want my money back. I made it exactly 54 minutes in before I decided that whatever payoff I might be slowly trundling my way towards, it wasn't going to be worth it. When I was younger I would have endured it through to the end just so I could say that I came out the other side, but alas for the people involved with the creation of this mess, I couldn't do it. If you are the sort of person who reads reviews prior to watching movies, give this movie a big skip. If you are someone who helped make it, I hope you eventually develop the talent to create something successful.

My biggest grief is that none of those people looked or acted like they were from 1962. A few lines of era-appropriate dialogue couldn't sell it. There were more things I didn't like, but it's not worth the time to write them down. I essentially interrupted my schedule to, I guess, ward off the unwary. There are plenty of other horror movies out there, watch one of them instead.
