Ruega por nosotras se ambienta en el año 1974. Ana tiene 19 años, vive en Barcelona y es –a ojos de su acomodada familia– una chica rebelde. Tras una fuga nocturna, su padre decide ponerla en manos del Patronato de Protección a la Mujer, una institución especializada en «mujeres caídas o en riesgo de caer». Ana es trasladada a Madrid para ser internada en un reformatorio regentado por monjas y sometida a un brutal régimen disciplinario. Allí intentará sobrevivir buscando consuelo y apoyo en la amistad de otras chicas en su misma situación, especialmente Sole, una chica de pueblo con una vitalidad contagiosa que conecta instantáneamente con ella.

Of all the highlights at last week’s Spanish TV forum Conecta Fiction, one of the biggest was a sneak peak reveal of a teaser-trailer to “La Caza. Irati,” Season 4 of a franchise which is shaping up as one of Spain’s biggest crime dramas.

Seasons 1-3’s anchor broadcaster was Spanish public-broadcaster Rtve. Netflix's new Spanish drama series Olympo is a teen sports drama series set in the world of synchronized swimming. It will handle the ambition, pressures, and romance of the swimmers looking for glory. The series makes its premiere on Friday, June 20, kicking off the first official day of summer with an exciting new series that will have us all hooked.

From the same production team as Elite, the show promises to be a steamy addition to the streamer this summer. It's one of the numerous Spanish shows commissioned by Netflix. Last year, four Spanish titles rose to the top 25 titles in the world of the streamer, including Berlin, Society of the Snow, Raising Voices, and The Asunta Case.

José Manuel Lorenzo, producer of Netflix global non-English chart-toppers “The Gardener” and “Raising Voices,” is set to receive this year’s Conecta Fiction Honorary Award.

It will be presented to him at this year’s Conecta Fiction & Entertainment, which runs June 16-19, relocated to Cuenca, a one hour train ride East of Madrid.

“The award recognizes his exceptional career in the audiovisual sector, where Lorenzo has been a key figure in the evolution of modern Spanish television and the elevation of scripted content as a cultural and export engine,” Conecta Fiction announced.

Created by Miguel Sáez Carral and Isa Sánchez, Raising Voices (or Ni una más as it was known in Spanish regions) told the story of 17-year-old Alma and her friends Greta and Nata who have their lives flipped upside down after discovering a sign outside their school proclaiming a rapist was within the school gates. All eight episodes dropped on Netflix globally on May 31st, 2024. Nicole Wallace, Clara Galle, Aïcha Villaverde, and Teresa de Mera were among the cast.

Following the end of Raising Voices, there had been some speculation of potential season 2 plans, but ultimately, most outlets landed on the series being a one-and-done situation. That said, Netflix uploaded the season with the “Season 1” label, as evidenced by the weekly top 10 reports for the series and on the tracker site NewonNetflix.info. Likewise, in checking all the pre-release materials for Raising Voices, there were no mentions of it being a limited series.

In The Soul Game, you “only find answers if you keep looking.” That’s what journalist Miren finds out after opening a mysterious envelope marked with the question “Want to play?” Now, she and her new co-worker, Jaime, are determined to uncover the truth: Will this twisted game solve the murder of a teen girl, and the disappearance of another? Exclusive: Spanish actress Nicole Wallace has signed with Tfc Management for representation.

Wallace is best known for her portrayal of Noah in the hit Prime Video film Culpa Mia (My Fault), based on the bestselling Wattpad novel series by Mercedes Ron. The Domingo González-written and directed title was the most-watched non-English language original in the platform’s history, Prime Video said in 2023. She followed Culpa Mia with starring roles in its sequels: Culpa Tuya (Your Fault) and Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault), which will premiere on the streamer on December 27, and June 2025, respectively.

San Sebastian — Released Sept. 21, Netflix’s latest data dump for first half 2024 estimated that non-English stories were “hugely popular,” making up early a third of all its viewing. The latest Netflix ‘What We Watched’ data dump — or ‘engagement report’ in the streamer’s lexicon — shows seven Spanish-language TV shows, including Money Heist spin-off Berlin, were in the 100 most-watched for the January to June period this year. A further three films made the top 100 in that chart, including Society of the Snow (aka La Sociedad de la Niece) at number three with 103.8 million views.

Netflix has made Spanish-language content, and specifically originals produced out of its huge studios just outside of Spain’s capital Madrid, a major priority in the battle for international streaming subscribers. Netflix is putting its money where its mouth is. Company co-ceo Ted Sarandos harangued other streaming executives this week for not being more transparent, and Netflix followed up his words by following through with another data dump regarding how much viewership it received in the first half of 2024. British TV was the biggest genre of the year for the streamer, with titles like “Bridgerton,” “Fool Me Once” and the controversy-generating “Baby Reindeer” compiling tens of millions of views.

Season 3 of the Shondaland period drama has now entered the streamer’s all-time list at number 10, booting “Baby Reindeer” and joining “Bridgerton” Seasons 1 and 2 on the leaderboard.

“Bridgerton” is the only series with three seasons on Netflix’s top 10 all-time list. “Stranger Things” is well-represented with Seasons 3 and 4, but its first two seasons came out before Netflix began to share viewership statistics.

Like many of its biggest shows, Netflix split “Bridgerton” Season 3 into two parts. Part 1 debuted on May 16; Part 2 launched on June 13.

Netflix’s top 10 is based on number of views over a TV season or a film’s first 91 days of availability — both “Bridgerton” Season 3 halves still have plenty of time to rack up more views in pursuit of the preceding seasons. “Baby Reindeer” has just a few days left before Netflix’s self-imposed cutoff.

Jeff Daniels makes his TV return in the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full.” That six-episode series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Tom Wolfe. Per a press release: “When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.” The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill and Chanté Adams.

Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney. The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks.
