As a fan of the manga, when i heard the announcement about it's upcoming anime adaptation i was both excited but also nervous, as i knew the beautiful art from the manga would be very hard to animate well. However, from the first episode, the anime looks good, with great visuals and voice acting. I definetly would recommend this show to anyone who enjoys action anime or even kaiju stuff like Godzilla., but although it is amazing it is mostly very generic shonen but it does it well, and character development is not just focused on the main character like some other shows but broadens for many different characters which allows you to connect with them. I hope this anime continues to go well, with the manga still ongoing this could be a series that becomes massive for a while if it is adapted well. 9/10.

This anime man.... It's really about the mc, more than it is about Kailju. Mc is a well written, likable character and you can't help but get caught up in his ups and downs. You feel for when he experiences hopelessness and despair, but his hope and heart are just infectious as he does his best to live his dream of joining the defense force. When the kaijus are up and the chips are down, and Hibino gives it his all...all I can do is smi-cry. The comedy and timing are fantastic, as is the choreography of the score in the climactic scenes. Everything comes together and builds towards great feel-good moments as Hibino fights his hardest every step of the way to pursue and fulfill his dreams of glory within the defense force.
Amazing adaption to the manga. It has everything you could want in an anime show and everything you were expecting if you read the manga. The voice acting is amazing. The visuals and animation would be very hard to make an adaption to but they did an amazing job. The show is exactly how I would expect a kaiju based show to be. However it is not unique for a shonen show and does not stand out from a lot of other plots. Some many find the show tedious because there is a lot of talking and could use a bit more focus on the main character but, as I have read the manga, I know where it is going to go and believe this is a perfect adaption. The character development is very good. I recommend this for every anime fan interested in more fighting based shows. 10/10.

Ive been hooked from the first episode that I even started reading the manga because of how much I fell in love with the story and characters. The anime Is faithful to the manga and they also have added extra scenes to the anime that the manga didn't have. The english dub voice actors have done such a great job at portraying the characters that I prefer to watch it over the sub version. The sound track is amazing and very on par with the shows vibe. The story feels familiar yet is unique and original to the Kaiju genre. I can't wait for the rest of the episodes to come out because from what Ive read so far we have something really special in store for us in the first season!

A city endangered by monsters and a squade of heros defend that city, old repeated idea but the execution is very heartful, this and any other idea in the anime that seem repeated, its just done not only differently but in a very heart-warming and human way , every character has its motives , every character act from self appreciation before the appreciation of others which is there but in its place , every character needs to fulfill its needs and in the same time protect the others , the protagonist isn't the only hero like some other boring animes , there are plenty of heros each one from a different perspective , the action is great well prepared and clear to the eye not just fast movements and there is explanation for every fast or weird move up till now , and most important point is it doesn't need you to give it a shoot for 2 or 3 episodes to amuse you , it's very entertaing from the very beginning.
Wow FINALLY!! It's been a long time since I found an anime that really suits my type. From the characters, graphics, transitions, soundtrack everything really suits me. I already know this will be my new favorite anime. And definitely the best anime of 2024. This anime just really met my expectations and in fact I've been waiting for an anime like this to appear since I started liking anime all my life, as if the anime I imagined in my imagination was finally animated. I'm not joking, I really get goosebumps every time I watch every episode of Kaiju No. 8!! The soundtrack selection is soo great!! I actually expected the solo leveling anime to be this good, but unfortunately it wasn't enough and was very stiff. That's all thx.

Kaiju No. 8, an eagerly anticipated adaptation of the acclaimed manga, has made a thunderous debut with its animation. The series has been nothing short of spectacular, a testament to the extraordinary production quality and a gripping storyline that has captivated audiences worldwide.
From the very first episode, it's evident that the production team has poured their heart and soul into bringing Kaiju No. 8 to life. The animation is nothing short of breathtaking, with fluid movements, meticulous attention to detail, and vibrant colors that leap off the screen. The action sequences are a visual feast, showcasing a level of dynamism and intensity that is rarely seen in television anime. The sheer scale of the kaiju battles, coupled with the intricately designed creatures, is enough to leave viewers in awe.
The story itself is a compelling blend of heart-pounding action, emotional depth, and intriguing character development. At its core, Kaiju No. 8 follows the journey of Kafka Hibino, a seemingly ordinary man with extraordinary circumstances, who dreams of joining the Defense Force to battle the monstrous kaiju that threaten humanity. The narrative deftly balances moments of intense action with quieter, character-driven scenes that add depth and nuance to the overarching plot. Each character is well-developed, with their own unique motivations and backstories that enrich the story.
What sets Kaiju No. 8 apart is its ability to maintain a perfect balance between high-stakes action and poignant storytelling. The series does not shy away from exploring themes of courage, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of one's dreams. This emotional resonance, combined with the jaw-dropping production quality, makes for a viewing experience that is as thought-provoking as it is exhilarating.
The voice acting deserves special mention as well, bringing each character to life with performances that are both powerful and nuanced. The sound design and musical score further enhance the immersive experience, perfectly complementing the on-screen action and adding an extra layer of intensity to the narrative.
In conclusion, Kaiju No. 8: The Animation is a triumph of modern anime. Its insane production quality, combined with a captivating and well-crafted story, makes it a must-watch for both fans of the manga and newcomers alike. This series sets a new benchmark for what can be achieved in the realm of animated storytelling, and it is sure to leave an indelible mark on the genre for years to come.

The show has really cool action sequences when it finally gets around to them!
Production quality is fine, also. The english voiceover is nice, no complaints there.
The writing is painful. The story meanders from cliche to stereotype to another character cliche and ticks all of the standard checkboxes you can come to expect from generic anime, with a huge load of self-doubting, self-pitying, crying, pride and honor rants, random mood swings, and superior 'cool' characters that are so extremely arrogant douches that they're carricatures but not functional human beings. And they're painful to endure. They hurt the believability of the setting.
A lot of of time (the majority of time!) is spent showing the viewer what the relatively boring and replaceable supporting human characters are doing, and sadly those things are neither interesting nor original.
When it finally is time to see what Kaiju No. 8 is up to, things are cool, and I wish they focused on this and the other badass Kaiju that are only featured here and there in some episodes, instead of blasting all of the time away with stereotypes that aren't memorable.
The kaiju designs range from interesting, to so-so, to creepy, and a few are quite cool. The weapons and tech that the good guys use look like gimped toys and their suits are straight up laughable to look at if you've ever played any games in which you encounter proper power armor and gear. No way in hell do those trashy swim suits help at all. Thankfully the writers smooth lethal injuries over with a good big dose of miracle healing.
That being said I'd still like to see a season 2 of this since there is so very few material out there with big bad monsters blowing stuff up.

Kaijuu Mid-Gou
Let us engage the mind's eye....
Imagine you have your typical shounen story about defeating monsters but replace your quintessential, teenage, hot-headed, dumbass, boystrous and loud over-the-top MC with a middle-aged man.
You are probably thinking; Wow! Lucky me, what a treat! The most annoying part of shounen is gone and we can enjoy some good story-telling with a realistic edge, a focus on strategy rather than boring obligitory 1v1 fights mid-piece style. You'll hope that the writer will explore deeper into physical and anatomical aspects of the monsters to give a more immersive and engaging edge to such a classic shounen genre.
Surely they can't possibly screw this up right?
Wrong.
What we got was exactly the same archetype of MC we're used to but now we can bombard him with old-man jokes. This moron behaves, converses and projects the exact same as your cookie cutter shounen MC in his teens. The problem is that he's double their age. It makes no sense, it's unsufferable and woefully, it's not even funny. Oh, and let's give him the editors-choice inspired obligatory simp Mantra which spearheads his vocational convictions. He will then repeatedly squawk these foolish ideals reducing his dialogue to the realm of the barking dog.
Let's add a couple of stupidly overpowered girls with innate, unearned talent that completely breaks the power-system. These annoying little tramps proceed to non-challantly and trivially oblilterate kaijuu who everyone else is stonewalled using extensive strategies to defeat. The excuse for this poppycock? Behold! This preposterously fashioned "combat suit scaling" system totally decided by congenital aptitude. All of the fun, curiousity and tension of strategic victories are just thrown to the coal to empower these two vacant characters. They, in turn get overpowered by random antagonist jobber so we can enact our favourite damsel-in-distress routine. Lest we forget to preclude these events with unorthodox sequences depicting those same girls stepping on him and humiliating him, socially, physically and mentally. This medium has been taken over by cucked underdog story merchants.
There's the concept of purposeful writing, where characters put on display are utilized efficiently by skilled and experienced(in life) writers using the major traits and attributes they differ from others. If a man is older than another by 10 years, if the writer knows what they are doing, he's supposed to have a mental advantage. On the contrary we instead get Asta with a beard and a pot belly. In refusing to make the correct moves in writing and characterization, they pretend to appear unique but in their mediocrity they end up on the same level as novice works. Why make him older when you don't utlize the advantages in being an elder?
This MC's goal isn't anything profound, it's a woman, he wants to be close to a woman. A woman who after watching the entire 12 episodes isn't even worth a penny. A woman who did absolutely nothing to help him reach the goal he desired. A woman who doesn't even acknowledge him till she saves her and her entire company from getting point-blank nuked. The utter lack of compassion or humility shown to a man who in the flashbacks(utterly insufferable) taught her what she knows, A man who played a massive part in setting the stage for her to reach her current position is just unbearable. This guy is on his knees to a teenage girl at least twice during the first few episodes. Another blatant example of the ludicrous progamming that conditions the masses to just eat up this boring predictable tsundere simp programming. No girl who really respects you will behave like this.
"Kaijuu" this name is disrespected like no other, these shameless jobbers are going 0-30 against zero-experience teenage test applicants. I lament the sorry sight depicting enormous, hard-scaled, towering, 10-story 'Leviathan-Behemoths' getting one shotted by mere bullets. Most of them move like robots not beasts. They simply exist to die, and whilst getting obliterated they barely fight back. The most interesting part about them was right at the start of the show, a segment about cleaning out intensitinal waste from the Kaijuus' deceased bodies. They catfished us because it never got that nuanced again despite having such massive potential.
The sheer amount of sponging is mind-boggling, I suppose it's absolutely fine if these giga-titans tank powerful bullets, lacerations and slashes all day, but i'm pretty sure humans in sleek, skin tight combat suits shouldn't survive 50-ton+ crushing blunt-force blows from these beasts on several occasions. They don't even have combat-helmets on but their heads aren't crushed from the utterly overwhelming pressure. Let's not even begin to talk about the amount of times they are drilled through like a nail through paper, a bona fide impalement execution, nevertheless 24 minutes later and you wouldn't be a fool for concluding that these men have the same regenerative powers the "Kaijuu" do.
Characters are thankfully less terrible than the MC, but there's barely anyone likable and to top it off, none of them really evoked any laughter from me during their desperate waves of banter bombardment. I'm not going to laugh at old man deprecation jokes and these incumbent tsundere routines have frankly run their course; i'm more disgusted than amused. The author showed glimpses of creating an environment or atmosphere which could breed some organic humor, but the whole context of everything just ruins my ability to understand or get immersed into it. Lest I forget how poor and forced alot of the dialogue was. Looking back, this show would benefit a great deal with just men in the combat roles, it would go a long way to solve it's story-telling issues, relying less on the rank nonsense of combat suit power amplication. I will fondly recall again that same section at the start which was just a bunch of swell guys, not a woman in sight, doing their not so average day-job of cleaning up the out-right "unnatural" disaster scenes, in other words the aftermath of a skirmish with the 'Kaijuu'. You'd think that would be the most boring part of the show, conversely those scenes had wholly bewitched me. Cut forward to the ludicrous sight of 27-year-old attractive long-haired female squad captain, what a jumpscare! We would scoff at a male 27-year-old squad captain. It seems you can't sell to the masses with a show that makes total sense nowadays. We have the kind of audience that highly rates garbage like Wistoria, this show; praising the likes of Oshi no Ko, and exalting that decent at best "Frieren" show to total masterpiece status, a veritable mark of our fall from grace.
Plot? There is none.
It's just a seemingly unexpected reoccuring sequence of ambushes only varying by the agent of the ambush. His power-up is an ambush in absence of any logical and thought-out backstory. Will he engage in diligent training to use his power-up effectively and efficiently whilst slowly discovering abilities, guided and based on anicient statues governed by the precursors of said power? No, he will just ambush us with his unfounded profeciency accompanied by a deluge of unothordox skills. The driving force of this show is defined by a staircase of continuous spontaneous ambushes, till we reach monster gets big enough for MC to stomp with his overpowered abilities, we then venture up the winder of the staircase repeating the outline of the scenario in kind. It calls into question how life in such a city is even possible despite constant unpredictable kaijuu attacks leaving entire city blocks inoperable. By the end of the show, it's all so stale. I kind of wished that instead of MC striving to save all these people, on the contrary he was a cruel, callous and conniving enemy agent who had to kill them. It would force the MC to be much more complex as well breed more tactful characterization. That kind of story would accentuate the tension and multiply the stakes. Just picture the sheer chaos and panic caused by the lack of knowledge of his idenity or powers; the kind of riveting lisason between him and his retinue of powerful and odious "kaijuu" operatives then try not to smile in awe of how amazing a story that would be.
So why did i finish it?
I made a promise that i would stick around as long as the MC continued to hide his powers. This kind of suspense was the only thing keeping me watching. However, by the time he revealed them to the world, I was in too deep. You can understand that the only logical next step was to complete it.
The animation was it's saving grace. There's was a great deal of quality, a blast to watch with very well respected perspectives, proportions and consistency. The OP and ED were quite good and it was generally pleasant to hear it's soundtrack. I noticed that they were very wise in animating at least a fight every episode to satiate the voracious apetites of the credulous weekly watchers . You can't fool me, as for my ilk and I of house "Bingère", it's all a smokescreen hiding how poor it is a narrative package beneath it's charming production.
Lastly I'd like to point the stark difference in the quality of written depictions between China and Japan in animation nowadays. When chinese shows undergo a premise like this they usually understand how to make knowledge, strategy, and wisdom with experience take centre stage in the fighting, dialogue and discourse in the show. Here in Japan we are again left despondent, it's truly a shame the writer was just not up to the task. I'm sure the writer was very much surprised such an average work would gain so much traction.

Kaiju no.8 is really good. The action is really good and i like all the characters in the cast. The mystery around the kaiju is really well though out and i'm confident what reveal comes next is going to be well pulled off. Kaiju no.9 is really intersting and I'm interseted what happens with him. Same thing with Mina, i want to see more of her backstory. This anime is another darker, more serious shonen like Attack on titan. This isn't as bloody and the themes are more grounded but it is still really good. Truly The best anime this season and if you want a good, hype shonen you should watch it.
2Yung4This that bum gave this a 5 but the new Road House movie a 7? Someone delete his dumb review! He's expecting realistic situations in an anime.
Anyway, like most good anime this one has great character development. There's a lot of characters but each one becomes memorable. The main protagonist is likable and goofy. In fact this show has a lot of silly and serious moments. I just finished the final episode on crunchyroll and can't wait til season 2. Matter of fact I am in search of the manga just to see if the movie adaptation does it Justice like most of the reviews state.

Kaiju No. 8 isn't revolutionary, but it knows what it's doing. The story is easy to follow and well-paced, with clear Attack on Titan and One Punch Man influences - yet it still stands on its own. The animation style is simple but effective, and the humor adds a nice balance to the action.
What stood out most were the characters - the Third Division feels like a real team, and each member is likable in their own way. The world might not feel totally realistic (especially with the over-the-top kaiju destruction), but the series embraces its tone and keeps things exciting.
I'm definitely looking forward to Season 2.

Kaiju No. 8 is very far from an original story, it has countless narrative elements used in dozen of other anime's, the plot is somehow predictable, however, with all this being said it's still manages to be engaging.
I believe the characters as well as the light humor drive the show forward, as mentioned the story is nothing new, it seems to draw elements from recent anime's like Jujutsu Kaizen, Attack on Titan, even Haikyuu to an extent, but the dynamic of the Defense Force in the series has some really funny and inspiring moments.
You can easily binge it given this first season is not so long, and you will for sure have a great time, as long as you go with the right expectations.
There isn't much to add, it's a solid anime, with solid story, good chemistry between the characters and great looking fights!

Its rare that an adaptation is better than the book. That is certainly the case here.
No. 1 difference to other anime out there is that the protagonist is a middle aged man rather than an angst ridden teenager. He's on his last chance (becoming too old) to fulfill a dream of joining the jdf and fighting kaiju alongside his childhood crush.
IG studios have truly knocked this adaptation out of the park. It doesn't matter if you watch the Japanese or the dub, as the direction, sound, timing, make those irrelevant. You will get swept up in it. The voice acting in all languages is so superb. They capture perfectly the silliness and emotions of the original manga and transform it onto a while other level. I thought I'd seen great animation with AOT, Arcane, Akira to name but a few. This leaves them way behind in terms of production and direction. So much care and attention has gone into this to get the beats and moments just perfect.
Having read the manga with each release and reread it. I know what each episode is going to contain. Yet each episode from 8 onwards was a heart pounding cliffhanger, with 11 being the most tense. Mentally thinking "fight it kafka, get control".
Really hoping they don't skimp on the production of season 02 in their rush to capitalise on the hype this is getting. As that would because tragedy.

Kaiju No. 8 is a GAME CHANGER! I just binge-watched the entire series and I'm still reeling from the experience. This show is a masterclass in storytelling, world-building, and character development.
The premise is simple yet genius: a young man named Kafka wants to join the Japan Defense Force to fight kaiju, but he gets turned into a kaiju himself! What follows is a wild ride of action, drama, and self-discovery.
The characters are complex and multi-dimensional, with Kafka being one of the most relatable protagonists I've seen in a long time. His struggles, his emotions, his motivations... everything feels so real and authentic.
And the world-building? Top-notch! The kaiju, the JDF, the politics... everything is so well thought out and immersive. You'll feel like you're right there in the midst of the action.
But what really sets Kaiju No. 8 apart is its themes. It's not just a show about monsters and fights; it's a show about identity, humanity, and what it means to be alive.
The animation is stunning, the music is pumping, and the pacing is perfect. This show will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
If you haven't watched Kaiju No. 8 yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Trust me, you won't regret it. This show is a must-watch for any anime fan!

Kaiju No. 8 is the story of Kafka Hibino, a young man who is half Kaiju. His dream is to become a member of Japan's defense force...that kills Kaiju. It's an epic show with plenty of great fights and well written dialogue.
The voice cast brings tons of life to the series and the dialogue sounds very natural in dub. The anime uses a dull color palette and has an overall basic feel, this helps the series feel serious and the animation is very smooth. The characters are interesting although the protagonist is the only one to have a particularly deep arc so far. The action scenes are epic and the great sounds enhances these scenes. The opening and ending themes are some of the best out there!
The plot is fairly straightforward shonen with nothing particularly unique in the story itself.
Kaiju No. 8 is a great watch and features a unique protagonist. The sense of humor combined with the sheer power in action scenes make this something fans of the genre shouldn't miss.

The first episodes were quite promising - the world building, the drama and at times the humour. Especially episode 4 got me hooked since it added depth to character and world.
On the other hand the humour and the arguments were often too silly and the power system is flat. The powers are unearned to the point were the main characters just surprise you with moves and abilities that they never learned, just out of thin air.
The character interactions don't make sense sometimes. For example, after the mysterious kaiju 8 saves some recruits and they are released from hospital, they chat about every nonsense with the others but not about their battle, or how they survived. The commander does not get informed.
Also the motivation of the MCs is very simple. Mostly just a girl.

I love kaiju movies and shows and gave this a try after seeing all the hype and it's mid at best none of it makes any sense same anime bs.
There is not much tension or threat from the kaijus which should be the first thing should be in the kaiju show. Show the casualties show the people in danger and dying I watched 10 episodes only saw few people get injured and then get back to their 100% health in next scene.
And one other thing which I have problem in these kind of shows instead of arming those powerful weapons on combat vehicles they are arming humans and they created suits to handle the weapons even increase the power of their weapons which doesn't make sense at all. Tiny humans taking down kaiju 100 times their size can only happen in anime. For example in the fungus episode they were bombarding the big kaiju which doesn't Damage much and then they didn't bomb the smaller ones which could've been easily taken out buy missiles.
Yes the show is entertaining and funny but it's nowhere near 8/10 it's 5 at best idk why people overrate most of the anime the quality in anime has been decreasing but I think the amount of new viewers are increasing who don't think much they just having fun and move on to other shows. Because of this the plot and writing isn't that good nowadays people needs to be honest and rate shows responsibly it's actually affect the quality of shows.
Overall I had fun but had to turn off my brain because the show is pretty dumb In my opinion I rather like to watch the show after the death of Kaiju what humans do with their bodies I was interested in the first episode I think It could be a great show on its own.
