Masz ci los!

While watching the movie "Masz Ci Los!" (Hard Luck!) I had a lot of fun, although I also saw some of the film's weaknesses (for example, it was too static, and there was too little realism in showing some characters and situations). But as a combination of slapstick comedy and black humor, the film was great entertainment for me and, at the same time, a successful pastiche of the Polish province and religiosity. In his masterpiece "8 1/2" Federico Fellini once showed a fashion show for bishops in Italy, which in my opinion would refer very well to the Polish type of religiosity too. That is, a lot of rituals and golden robes, but inside there is complete emptiness or simply not wise and anachronistic attitudes. For example, there are about 840 monuments of Pope John Paul II in modern-day Poland in comparison to 14 monuments dedicated to Chopin, 12 to Copernicus, and only 2 to Marie Curie-Sklodowska. This proves that the influence of the Catholic Church not only prevents Poles from objectively understanding the world around them but is also a factor that distorts the understanding of their own tradition and history. So besides the fact that "Masz Ci Los!" was very funny to me, it was also very true in many ways, and this truth deserves to be told. That is why I am giving it a rating of 7.
