The Spencer Sisters

All Darby Spencer (Stacey Farber) wants to do is to follow her late father's footsteps and be a good police detective. She quits the police force in frustration after an undeserved reprimand. She breaks up with her cheating boyfriend and moves out. She visits her famous mystery writer mother Victoria Spencer (Lea Thompson). She's not a happy camper. There are abandonment issues. When a friend gets falsely accused, the two women join forces to solve the case. They form the Spencer Sisters Detective Agency solving various cases.

Stacey Farber and Lea Thompson are both great fun actresses. There is good chemistry between them. The rest of this Canadian show is a bit janky. The overall production is not at a good level. Still, these two leads give it the old college try and comes up with some fun. It lasted for only one season.

So maybe this isn't 9 stars but giving it a boost. It's a good show! Leads are great actresses and story is engaging. Wish it had been given another season or too. Just found this Hallmark channel. :(

The mother daughter story draws you in and the mysteries are interesting enough that you can't always solve the case immediately. The twists keep you engaged with some great love triangle sub plots.

Could the acting be better on side characters sure... But the main cast really works hard to make up for it and the writing is good so you can forgive it. Only other improvement that could be made is the sister jokes do get a little tired after awhile. I mean... Why not just lean into the mother daughter plot and name it The Spenser Women or Spenser detective agency...

Murder She Wrote.. It is not!

Feels like simple fluff,where the crime gets figured out before it even starts.. The clues oddly just fall in their lap,it's all too easy(Scooby-Doo)gave us more to figure out! Lol.

I agree with others the title is an odd choice,despite it being a failed attempt comedic-wise.

It's full of clichés,plot holes & more! As mentioned,fluff.

Not saying it's the worse tv show,however don't feel this will be a long-lasting series.

It was cast ok decent & acting ok,plus above-average cinematography.

The dynamic between daughter and mom,seem a bit far fetched.. Not sure if it's Lea trying too hard in her acting,working at recapturing her youth & so forth.

Also.. Why is the daughter so bitter and full of angst,she just seems a bit entitled yet so does mom.

Worth a watch but,don't expect quality either.

It was good. I can't believe they cancelled it really did have great potential. The networks are playing with us. Each time we like something it's cancelled, The Gourmet Detective, Crossword Mysteries, Curious Caterer, Mystery 101, shall I go on? MatchMaker Mysteries and Picture Perfect were not even given a chance, not to mention Morning Show Mysteries! So many great shows and they cancel them. I thought with streaming competition we could have more flexibility in the stats these Executives seem to say they use when really they use a dartboard and their personal interests! Let's give us a chance and give the shows more of a chance!!!

Always been a huge fan of Lea and that is what made me interested in the show. It's not groundbreaking; but it is a good show. Unlike some shows today, you can have a laugh and not have someone pushing an agenda in your face. There is a little friction between mother and daughter (so that makes the show more realistic based on my daughter and her Mother). It is not going to win any major awards probably; but sometimes you just need a little escape from all the crazy things going on in your world. It is kind of like reading a science fiction book.... you know it is not reality; but that is what you are escaping from, right?
