When the young Andrew II ascends to the throne, he has to face not only the Kuns invading Transylvania from the east and the approaching Muslim influence, but also the intriguing lords of the court. With the help of his wife and her lover, Gertrude of Meran, and in alliance with the Church, he throws himself into the struggle for the further rise of the Kingdom of Hungary, from the altars of churches and the halls of ornate palaces to Jerusalem in the far distance, at the head of his loyal Servian warriors. Crowned with the Holy Crown, the young King of the House of Árpád became a wiser and wiser ruler as he went through his adventures and trials, and for the good of the country he forged a new alliance with his people, the rules of which were laid down in the Golden Bull of 1222.
