I was really hoping for a show about werewolves with an intriguing story and feral fight scenes. But instead, they made it much too kiddie. Which is a very strange choice for the subject material, people turning into savage beasts and fighting for dominance.
I didn't expect a mature series for teens to adults, but this felt very neutered.
To such a point where a werelord will attack someone and there will be no blood, no scratch, not even a tear in the clothing?? I'm not asking for brutality, but you can show some damage.
The plot felt very rushed, and I barley got to know the characters. At one point characters are crying for fear of losing another, but it felt like they spent a day together.
The plot and characters are archetypes I've seen many times over, and they didn't do much special with them.
The things I did like. I thought the animation was visually appealing. Although, the low frame rate can be a little off putting at times.
The idea of the characters are good. I liked the supporting characters, good to see some strong female characters. I liked how the more lady-like one could still pack a punch when needed. The world building has a lot of potential.
I've never heard of or read the books, but werewolves are right up my alley. But once again, werewolves get screwed over.
It's sadly just ok. I'm sure families will enjoy it, but anyone else will find it quite underwhelming.

To start Netflix has shown us that they are perfectly capable of making entertaining, and high-quality kids television shows. I stumbled across Wolf King because every now and then I do like to check the coming to Netflix page. After watching a trailer I began to feel excited. Similar to the cadets show of 2023 It's always the under advertise shows that Netflix produces that are always the best.
I decided to start episode one as something to put on in the background. I was quickly drawn in by the very colorful, storytelling and beautiful animation. The story also adds to the wow factor of the show we've seen fantasy over and over again But I think that the wolf king does it right, especially for the main audience. It is supposed to be targeting, which is children. Parents can trust this show not to throw anything in their child's face that they wouldn't otherwise want their children, seeing unlike the dragon prince which was a phenomenal show, regardless of intended audience.
Needless to say, I ended up finishing The show completely in one sitting, and I would recommend this show for both audiences and adult audiences.

A really solid story and great animation offering from Netflix. I have not read the books and have no idea how the show compares, but it makes me curious to read them.
I see a few complaints about the animation style and the story development! I understand both complaints but I have to disagree... you can't always have every detail in a story. Though I would have like to have seen a little more relationship development between the lead character and his group of friends. The time period of the show seems as if it takes place over a couple of weeks but there is a couple statements that makes you think it is a much longer period. Those inconsistencies could have been avoided. But I don't need every detail of his origins.
I completely disagree with the complaints about animation. It was a choice and it works. The target audience is young people. Like early teens maybe... so the animation style is almost nostalgic for children's books and shows, yet of a quality lending itself to quality art.
Bottom line is, it's worth the watch whether you are 12 or 52!

As stated in each episode, this show was inspired by the book series, authored by Curtis Jobling. I read them around 4 times growing up, and to be completely honest I was incredibly hesitant to watch any adaptations. Was I wrong to think this? Not entirely. With Jobling as head writer, his strokes are present in the limited space of 8 episodes. And it's clear that his vision was mostly translated to the screen, which is frankly phenomenal when it comes to adapting epic fantasy. However that being said I feel that the frame rate of animation lets things down. I wasn't as impressed by the beast forms of some of the characters (Lucas I'm looking at you) as I should've been. Although saying that I will stand by the beautiful human forms, backgrounds and worldbuilding brilliantly communicated through the animation. Overall I give this show a 9/10 in part to hope for a season 2, so that the show can build off and really delve into the world of Lyssia and in turn Bast.
The story, characters all seem good but the framerate made me stop half way through. It's trying to impersonate a stop motion movie but fails that and just quickly gave me and my partner a headache. I am ok with classic comics and cartoons at 15-18per second but this is way below that. Just comparing with Arcane makes it unwatchable. Unfortunately for the writers the tech did not serve this story well.
I am sure it is possible to reprocess this and add more frames , this is just cgi interpolation at the end of the day. Otherwise it'll join the raft of programmes that tried too hard to be innovative and stick out of the cloud and failed in the process.
