The Last Man(s) on Earth

This movie is fantastic. Hilarious, weird, offbeat, mostly unpredictable. It starts weird and just gets cooler and cooler.

I watched this by accident, thinking it was the pilot episode of a TV show everyone is raving about (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230454/). I was amazed at the quality and style of this new TV show! It felt like something FOX would air in the early 90s - like In Living Color (www.imdb.com/title/tt0098830/). This is something totally new and different. I've never seen a movie quite like this.

Yes, it's a bit low budget. But the low budget quality actually fits the style of the two characters' YouTube videos. And key ingredients are definitely A-grade: lighting, acting. If you can enjoy seriously stupid funny, like Tucker and Dale vs Evil (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1465522/), then this movie is for you! This movie deserves so much more than its current 3.6 rating. I had the opportunity to view an almost-finished cut of THE LAST MAN(s) ON EARTH, the apocalyptic comedy based on the web series of the same name. Though it had a few slow patches and a couple of jokes didn't hit the mark, its flaws were forgivable because it is riotously funny. The cast have terrific chemistry, the production values and action were impressive, and the script is peppered with zingers that had me laughing so hard that my sides hurt. Even the editing is funny, with some Edgar Wright-style flourishes that added some zip to the proceedings. Charan Prabahakar and Brady Bluhm are an excellent comedy team, each with different strengths that compliment each other nicely. Here's hoping for a sequel.

This movie is just like watching a live comic strip! It kept me in suspense and was SO HILARIOUS!!! Haha I highly recommend it to everyone, it makes a great family movie too! They couldn't have chosen better characters for the parts. I'm totally gonna watch this again because now I want to see my friend's and family's reaction when they see it. I also enjoyed the background music and all of the cinematography involved in creating such an "epic" film. This movie should be a feature film or should be featured in film festivals! It's hard to find a good comedy these days, and I did not expect to find one in a low budget independent film. Part action film, part comedy, and part disaster/horror film this was a seriously fun movie. Made on what looks to be a very modest budget, it never distracts from all the fun and excitement happening on screen. While it drags a little at the end the rest of the film soars by riding on witting dialogue, great one liners, fun action sequences, and great performances.

I was really impressed with the writing of the film. This was probably it's biggest strength. As good as the writing was though it wouldn't have had the same effect without the great actors who delivered the lines. Rick Macy and Darin Southman (who I've only ever seen in serious roles) performances were a big highlight for me. But the show goes to the leading man Charan Prabhaka who is both a great action hero and hilarious! Brady Blum's performance was also good, but there were a few times were he was a little over the top for me. Overall though this is an extremely funny movie (better than most Hollywood comedies), that you will not regret taking the time to check it out.

Based on their YouTube comedy series, The Last Man(s) on Earth, we find Charan Prabhakar and Brady Bluhm channeling their inner Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, respectively. This is a film that looks like it was a ton of fun to make, though slightly less fun to watch. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it and found the leads to be funny characters, but it still felt like a YouTube length skit that was stretched out to feature length proportions. The filmmakers were also obviously working on a very constrained budget, which added charm at moments and weighed down the film at other times. If you enjoy the camaraderie of Pegg/Frost, then this film might just as well be the lower-budgeted cousin, with a similar character dynamic and humor that wouldn't be out of place in one of their films or TV shows. Overall, a valiant effort and I'd love to see what these guys could do if given the resources to make a decently funded feature.
