The disillusioned police trainer Max Grosz is worried: his nephew, the daring journalist and environmental activist Victor Vegener, has disappeared without a trace in Norway. When the police there stopped the search after a short time, Max traveled to Spitsbergen on his own. Victor had recently researched the global agricultural group BSG. His attempted break-in into the Svalbard seed vault was probably related to this. Max is only reluctantly supported in the search by his Norwegian colleague Thea Koren. Meanwhile, BSG's CEO, Sven Benjamin, is preparing to take over its largest competitor.

The discovery of a blood trail convinces police officer Thea Koren that her German colleague Max is worried about his nephew. She now also believes that the environmental activist Victor is in danger. When a man's body is found, Max has to face his worst fears. In Brussels, BSG CEO Benjamin's takeover plans are in danger of failing. His mastermind Hoffmann has to break the resistance of the new EU competition watchdog Kronberg.

Victor receives an offer from his kidnappers: The activist should reveal the BSG scandal with a video. However, he doubts whether he can trust his guard. A cell phone message enables Max to locate his nephew on a freighter bound for Belgium. Victor's ex-girlfriend Faiza Said also investigates. The scientist discovers abnormalities in seed samples that the missing man sent her.

Max needs treatment after his kidney failure. His partner Thea finds out that someone switched his medication and wanted to knock him out. In Brussels, the two are hoping for the support of a BSG critic. The journalist Ian Ramis probably knows more about Max's nephew's research. But he himself is in the agricultural company's crosshairs. Its CEO is blackmailed by the scientist Omar Said.

After Victor's dramatic escape, Max gets the chance to see his missing nephew again. Since the experienced investigator doesn't know who he can trust anymore, he only rushes to the meeting point with Thea. They get into a life-threatening confrontation at a subway station. Meanwhile, the idealistic EU Commissioner Jule Kronberg is coming under pressure. Her veto against a BSG agricultural monopoly could cost her her career.

While the takeover battle between agricultural companies is entering its final round in Brussels, Max returns to Spitsbergen. With his partner Thea, he goes on the hunt for the mysterious woman who has followed them wherever they go. Tess is on the polar island to clear up her traces in the Svalbard seed vault. When Max and Thea follow her into the mountain tunnel, they have no idea what their murderous opponent is planning.
