No Tomorrow

This documentary was very interesting. On the surface it would seem that the death penalty is fitting. The brutality of the murder (which they showed) was very heart breaking. The facts behind her upbringing also pulls at your heartstrings.

The case is so complex. If he is in fact guilty, some of the arguments against the death penalty are really not good. It's not like he brutally murdered a rich person or a gang member (from what we know). He brutally murdered an innocent woman who essentially grew up just like him. She deserves justice. And justice may not be having him sitting in a cell for life perhaps pondering on who he can kill next.

My only reservation is was it proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the person actually murdered her. I did not get that sense originally. There are a few death penalty cases that were overturned due to the suspect being not guilty.

Also what is so fascinating is that the lawyers (and others) who are making arguments against the death penalty for him also have children/family. It would be interesting to know what type of punishment they would want if that were their child who was murdered. Not sure if they would be so quick to consider his upbringing.

It seems the best argument against the death penalty is time. If he is going to be alive for the next 30 years anyways (assuming he will not be murdered by a fellow inmate) then he may as well get life without parole and save the taxpayers money.

All in all this documentary was well done and offered good arguments on both sides.
