This was a great movie. Incredibly entertaining and nostalgic. It reminded me of how much I used to enjoy going to the video store on Friday nights with my dad. The comedic timing throughout the film was fantastic and gave the entire theatre a good laugh many times.
I thought it was going to be more of a horror (which is not my style) but I was pleasantly surprised finding out that it was more of a story telling comedy.
This was a great experience and I had such a good time, I hope to see it again one day.
To anyone that gets that chance to see this film and is looking for a good laugh, go see it. I know you will enjoy it.

This is a fun horror comedy that takes from the YouTube channel The Last Video Store with Bud Haddonfield and the movie Beyond the Gates from 2016. In this retro 80's style film a woman who finds an odd vhs tape brings it to the last video store in its existence to learn more. The clerk unknowingly releases the dark forces within the tape and brings all the nightmare ish characters to the real world similar to Last Action Hero. This
movie is enjoyable and has funny moments that will not disappoint, It's not bad, great atmosphere and a cool story. Take it upon yourself to seek out the other movies/Youtube series as this is a great love letter to them.
Great little movie with lots of fun and reminders of the required weekend trip to the local video store including references to Be Kind Please Rewind stickers and the always welcomed one free rental! Quick dialogue and good chemistry between the main characters. For a movie shot in a small place it does not feel claustrophobic at all. Most the acting takes place in a reduced space making the acting and chemistry even more important. Synth music reminded me of all those teenage 80's movies with a bit of John Hughes in between. Overall, lots of fun and nostalgy for a long gone era. Catch this movie if you can.
I'm not always a fan of horror or gore in film, so I was a bit nervous going in to watch this at first. However, within the first 10 minutes, I knew I was in for an absolute treat.
The tone and plot of this movie surprised me in a wonderful way. From it's many comedic, self-aware moments to it's collection of nostalgic references, I caught myself smiling and chuckling so much that my cheeks hurt while I was walking out of the theatre. It was a fantastic homage to the b-movies it draws inspiration from.
As someone who grew up in Canada at the end of the "era of the video store" (and who still has a VHS player with a collection of classics at their family cabin), this movie hit all the right notes for me. It gave me that same feeling of wonder I felt as a kid renting tapes and/or dvd's with my family - what adventures might I find in my chosen rental of the week? The possibilities were endless (and often a bit absurd).
Moments of gore, suspense, and seriousness broken up by hilariously clever nods to the bad CGI and questionable tropes of the 80's and 90's. A surprisingly catchy soundtrack and heaps of interesting framing/lighting choices. Fun, deliciously corny effects. A cast that clearly has a passion for the project and the era of the video store. A truly unexpected joy to watch! I'll definitely be adding this one to the VHS collection at the cabin.
