I have been been particularly keen on Western movies, but do sit down every now and again to watch one. And thus, I opted to sit down and watch the 2010 movie "A River of Skulls" from writer and director Suza Lambert Bowser. Sure, I had never even heard about it, so I had no idea what I was in for. But the movie's title sounded interesting enough.
I have to say that the movie's title made no sense whatsoever.
The storyline in the movie was pretty straightforward, but it was bland, so very, very bland. There wasn't really much excitement throughout the course of the movie, and the narrative was somewhat monotonous. And that didn't exactly make for a particularly entertaining movie to sit through, though I endured it to the very end.
I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, and that was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie. Why? How? Well, simply because I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen in movies. And I will say that the acting performances in the movie were adequate. Nothing outstanding or extraordinary, but adequate enough.
Something that worked in favor of the movie was the props, wardrobe and sets. It looked like a Western, not a wild west kind, but more of an era-set drama.
"A River of Skulls" will probably entertain the diehard Western fans a lot more than it did me as a casual viewer. Though this is hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.
My rating of writer and director Suza Lambert Bowser's 2010 movie "A River of Skulls" lands on a three out of ten stars.
