Descrizione

  • Working as the stunt double for action star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Hollywood stunt performer Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) breaks his back during a stunt gone wrong and abandons his career and his girlfriend, camerawoman Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). Colt had been Tom's stunt double for 6 years now. Gail is the producer of the movie. Colt had to do a stunt again as Tom felt that Colt was showing too much face and he asked Colt to fall backwards instead of face first, so that less face is captured on camera. This is when the stunt goes out of control and leads to the accident.

Jody wanted to be a big time Hollywood director. Jody tried very hard to be there for Colt, but he could not stand the pity and walked away.

Eighteen months later, Colt, now a valet for a small Mexican restaurant, is contacted by Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham), Tom's film producer. She tells him that Jody is directing her first film, a space opera film titled Metalstorm starring Tom, and that she wants Colt to join the production in Sydney. Colt dithers but knows that his life as a valet is a dead end. He also wanted to get back to the action on the sets.

Jody is under pressure on the movie as things are going haywire everywhere. The Pyrotechnics team keep testing their equipment, even when they are not supposed to, and her script writer keeps trying to change the story by making incremental changes to it. Jody didn't want VFX on the film as she wanted it look realistic. Dan Tucker is the stunt coordinator on the movie.

After arriving on set, Dan asks Colt to perform a roll on a car stunt. Colt is afraid but goes ahead with the stunt and does 8.5 rolls. Yet, he is perplexed when Jody will not even look in his direction. When Colt removed the helmet, that's when Jody realizes that the stuntman was Colt. Colt learns that Jody never asked for him and is still angry about their breakup, with the film being a less-than-subtle attempt at airing her grievances at Colt.

Jody is livid with Colt and makes him do a scene again and again in which Colt is set on fire and thrown off against a rock. Colt confronts Gail and says that she lied as Jody does not want him there at all.

Gail reveals that Tom has disappeared after getting into trouble with "very bad people" and she wants Colt to find him before his absence causes the already over-budget film's cancellation. Not wanting Jody's directorial debut ruined, Colt agrees. Gail says that as a stuntman nobody will notice if Colt is on the sets or not. Gail says that Colt has 48 hours to find Tom, at which point she would need to reveal that Tom is missing and the movie would be shut down.

Colt first goes to Tom's apartment where he meets Tom's girlfriend and co-star Iggy (Teresa Palmer). She gives Colt a lead, so he visits a nightclub, where he meets drug dealer Doone, who tricks Colt into drinking a cocktail laced with a hallucinogen. After getting into a fight with Doone and his henchmen, he is told that Doone was paid by Tom's head of security to drug him and deliver him to Pendleton Hotel. Colt visits Tom's hotel room where he finds a dead body in a bathtub full of ice. When Colt returns with the police, the body has disappeared.

The next day, Colt tries to tell Jody about Tom being missing, but Jody was completely engrossed with ideas for the movie. She tells Colt that Tom is not good at action, and she could even finish the movie with just Colt. Jody invites Colt to a Karaoke night with the crew that evening.

As the production of Metalstorm continues, Colt and Jody begin to rekindle their relationship until Gail abruptly informs him that he must return to the United States. Instead, he continues looking for Tom by tracking down his personal assistant Alma Milan (Stephanie Hsu). She hands him Tom's phone, which Tom and Gail had been searching for. Alma says that the phone has a video that can break Tom's career and wants Producer Credit on Metalstorm as she says that she is burning her career by handing Colt the phone. They are both attacked by Tom's head of security, Dressler (Ben Knight), and his team, who are looking for the phone.

Gail tells Jody that Colt has left, which devastates her, and she ends up singing a romantic love song at the karaoke bar.

Colt and Alma defeat the henchmen after an extended chase through Sydney involving a rubbish truck. Colt rushes to the Karaoke bar, hoping to find Jody, but she had already left by the time he got there.

Colt and his long-time friend Dan Tucker (Winston Duke), the stunt coordinator on Metalstorm, unlock the phone and discover a video of an intoxicated Tom accidentally killing his most recent stunt double Henry Herrera (the man in the bathtub) while sparring at a party. The henchmen attack Colt and Dan, destroying the phone with shotgun pellets.

Dan escapes, but Colt is captured and brought face-to-face with Tom, who has been hiding out on a yacht on Gail's instructions. He reveals that Gail is framing Colt for the crime using deep-fake technology to replace Tom's face with Colt's on the incriminating video and that he orchestrated Colt's accident because he felt that Colt was stealing the spotlight from him. Tom's plan was to incriminate Colt for the crime, and then to drive him off the Sydney Harbor into the sea with Henry's body in the car to make it look like a murder suicide. Colt is the fall guy and was brought to Sydney specifically for this purpose by Gail.

Henry's body is discovered, and the doctored video is released to news media, while Gail tries to convince Jody that Colt is guilty.

Colt escapes and calls Jody and tries to convince her that he is innocent. He also admits that he was wrong to have left Jody so suddenly. Colt says that he is still in love with Jody. Colt is presumed dead after a boat chase ends in an explosion, but Colt survives and swims to safety. Gail informs Jody that Colt is dead.

The next day, Tom arrives at the Metalstorm set and production continues. Colt secretly returns to the set and convinces Jody of his innocence and tells her that Gail is in on the conspiracy to frame him. Together, they trick Tom into participating in a stunt sequence and confessing while he is wired with a live microphone while the rest of the stunt team, led by Dan, hold off Tom's bodyguards. Gail steals the recording at gunpoint and tries to escape in a helicopter with Tom, but Jody helps Colt leap onto the helicopter in mid-air. He retrieves the recording and falls onto a crash mat prepared by Dan, while the helicopter crashes with Gail and Tom in it.

Metalstorm's trailer premieres at San Diego Comic-Con, with Jason Momoa being made the new lead and Alma the film's new producer. The film eventually becomes a box office hit. Colt is exonerated, and he and Jody get back together.

Gail and Tom survive the crash, but authorities arrive to detain them. Tom leaves Gail to be arrested in order to call his agent, accidentally triggering a series of radio-controlled Pyrotechnics and blowing himself up. Alma calls Momoa's agent.
