There is so much human authenticity in this film stimulated by an incredibly well-written rich dialogue here that sizzles along like a wild, uncontrolled tango, ride before finally building up to its climatic ending. It begins as a bitter slanging match between a husband and wife
,a vicious honest no-hold coversation that reveals a big bunch of dirty laundry between two still coupled individuals, soon to part ways, that comes on the trail end of a now seeming to be train-wreck ending of a marriage . The couple are trapped together in their apartment during the Covid isolation period. Simple enough premise right?
What makes this film a stand-out is the lively script that never lets up and two brilliant actors who reveal so much of what it means to be human in this world, through theur facial expressions alone, let alone the punchy, electric way they deluever their lines. I mean to be honest I was only half watching the film as I was doing sone manual work at home, but I found myself, laughing and crying as I got dragged into this emotional vortex of a romantic dramady. A film that dances between darkness and light, deep emotion to witty humour, like a sword fight between at least two of the three muskateers!
The fierce banter between the two sole characters, one who is leaving the other for a recently revealed lover, stimulates strong emotional tension, dragging the viewer into what looks like a mental bar-fight, that looks and feels vividly stressful. Somehow the honesty revealed in this constant sparring match starts to uncover, via colourful, creative, and clever wording, truth smeared with cutting sarcastic humour, layers of resentment , disappointment, and dishonesties that have never been addresses between thus husband and wife. The result of this purging of each's individual true motives and previously undeclared behaviour, causes each of the characters blood to heat up exponentially, revealing compellingly evident reservoirs of sexual chemistry and tension, feeling and mutual caring between the two, thus beginning an intoxicating, dynamic interplay between the sole counteprart characters that makes you the viewer, falls in love with and root for each of them.
This movie is a ballad on the imperfection of romantic relationships and how each reveals the shadow side of the other offering a pathway to growth....should you choose to accept this mission! In the case of this film and the sometimes misery filled ending of some close personal relationship in this world, one steels one's heart in case this initially Titanic-seeming relationship is actually going down, but you secretly and desperately root for the two to stay together.
You know that feeling when you get swept when viewing the sexual chemistry between the two people in a couple, contrasted maybe with the deprived state of your own relationship, or are standing too close to , or witness the exotic body language between two humans strongly, mutually attracted to each orher and the mirror neurons in your own brain start buzzing and can't help themselves causing your five physical senses to lock onto this targeted coupling wanting you to drink in this scenario using as many senses as you can, well it is that kind if film. These actors are mature and past their prime, with lined faces, but in light of this gorgeous dialogue that twists and turns like a manic twisting train that can barely stay on the tracks, they are gloriously illuminated individuals who you start to sense may just make it out there...at least eventually on their own.
