Nearly three decades after Happy Gilmore landed in theaters, a sequel to the golf comedy will land on Netflix. Alongside Adam Sandler as the titular character, Julie Bowen will return for the anticipated Happy Gilmore 2 as Virginia, a fan-favorite character that she initially thought she would not be able to play again in the streaming sequel.

During a conversation on the Inside of You podcast, Bowen shared that she was surprised to be called back to reprise her role.

"I didn't think they'd bring me back at all. I mean, who am I supposed to be? He's got to have a younger woman in this one, 'Happy Gilmore 2.'"

Bowen famously portrayed Virginia Venit in the 1996 original, a public relations director for the professional golf tour that Happy joins. She recalled the audition process, sharing that the casting team was "visibly relieved" by her more grounded approach to Virginia.

Among those on the list are newly minted Oscar winners Mikey Madison (Best Actress for Anora) and Kieran Culkin. Among all the invitees this year 91 are past Oscar nominees including 26 winners.
