Right, well the synopsis for this 2024 horror movie titled "Remnant", from writer and director Mike Horan, certainly sounded interesting. And with this being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually heard about, and given my love of all things horror, of course I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch the movie.
Now, the narrative in the movie was a swing and a miss in terms of entertaining me. It seemed the majority of the scenes were just dreams that Grace had, as she kept waking up after something happened. And that didn't exactly make a proper storyline for me. So sitting through "Remnant" was quite an ordeal, especially since nothing interesting or scary happened. And whenever something was about to happen, well then Grace woke up and the scene was cut abruptly short.
I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, which was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie, as I enjoy watching unfamiliar and new talents on the screen. The acting performances in "Remnant" were fair.
If you enjoy horror movies, then your 112 minutes are much better spent elsewhere, because "Remnant" simply wasn't worth the effort.
The movie would have benefitted tremendously from a more round-handed trim in editing, because 112 minutes of this boredom was just mind-boggling.
My rating of "Remnant" lands on a very, very generous two out of ten stars.

Oh. My. Good. Lord. What in the hell did I just watch!? Seriously. I have no idea. Not a single one of the characters are introduced to us as to who they are to each other. They made sure to let us know that Kate had left her girlfriend (which has NO bearing on the story WHATSOEVER), but outside of that... we are never told who Kate is to Grace or who Tom is to either of them.
Tom says that he is running "the farm," but the "farm" appears to be on GRACE'S property. Not to mention the fact that, even though he "runs the farm," for some reason he has to supplement his income by working at the theater?
Then, we are led to believe that Grace's parents were killed in the crash that injured her. OK... This movie was released in 2024. The date on the graves is 2021. Ignoring that as in-consequential, the graves are not fresh. They have obviously been there for some time - quite probably the three years that the time gap in dates would explain. I could believe that Grace had been in a coma for three years... except that the makeup team went to the trouble of creating a prominent bruise on Grace's chest from the crash. A bruise that she makes it a point to look at in the mirror before getting in the tub. Which she just sits beside, but... that's another story altogether.
Nothing about this makes sense. I wouldn't recommend this to an enemy, much less a friend. But... you do you. Don't say you weren't warned...
