Motel Makeover

Oh just a couple of ladies unabashedly strutting in fur-lined parkas trying to make an old motel "instagrammable" by incorporating very, very original and cheugy designs ("good vibes only") and jacking up the prices from "$60 to $200 a night," so that they can lure selfies-obsessed girl clientele. The locals must be thrilled to be frowned upon for not serving alternative milk lattes, to be referred to as the real-life Schitt's Creek and to have no local history highlighted.

The premise is interesting. Most makeover reality shows have a formula: start from almost nothing, rebuild/reconstruct, overcoming all potential obstacles. The end result, the property is magically a showplace by the final grand unveiling. The hosts start out as somewhat pleasant, well intentioned, and of course good looking and if they're women, well dressed with perfect hair and makeup, even when they have paint or plaster on them. The viewers usually know ahead of time what they're in for.

The problem with this one is the hosts. BFF's probably in their mid 30's, they act and sound like high school valley girls or girls being played in a Saturday Day Night Live skit with Amy Poehler and Kristen Wiig. High pitched squeals about color tiles or lamps become very annoying, very quickly. After watching 2 of the 6 episodes, even know I am interested in seeing the finished project, I don't think I can sit through another episode. When you watch reality makeover shows, you expect the hosts to be slightly self absorbed. These 2 are grating and obnoxous!

I like the concept and the girls did a great job but their voices are horrible! So put the subtitles on and put the sound on mute.

The two "Valley Girls" voices completely ruin this otherwise great show. I had to mute it.

I somehow watched all episodes unmuted because I was bored on a rainy Sunday and looking for something empty to binge watch. Not gonna comment on their vocal fry or their inexperience or their basic tastelessness since everyone else already did but I wanted to contribute with a Valley Girl to English dictionary in case you get confused watching this:

Retro: I don't think they know what this means. Anything is retro. A blue swimming pool is retro. A surfboard is retro. Since their vocabulary consists of 15 words they label anything and everything as retro. Don't think too much of it when they say retro, they mean to say "pretty".

Super Retro: Means it has actual vintage vibes.

Real Retro: Vintage.

Art: Anything that came out of a colored printer.

Statement: Either big or weirdly colored anything is statement.

Design moment: Means you can take an Instagram photo at this spot.
