Great Casual Film with Realistic Message of Wasted Potential

I figured I'd chime in as there's not many reviews here. Very pleasant watch for it's "weight class".

This film is very much a low budget indie, and as far as these "Tubi" movies go, it's definitely worth checking out.

There's many of these lower budget films on sites like Tubi, and I was really glad that I checked this one out. It's very relatable, down to earth and because of that the positive messages are much more realistic than a big budget production.

As the others here have stated, it's about self improvement, but more importantly it's a film about wasted potential. Decent comedy, worth checking out for sure.

It has moments of lackluster dialogue, and acting that isn't super sharp but the overall heart and soul of the movie is authentic and easy to latch onto.

It has some cynicism along the veins of "Clerks", but personally I think it's even more sincere than that and offers a lot of second chances and messages of hope, ability to still change.

The characters aren't super fleshed out besides our main protagonist, but they all get their own moments of redemption. Overall I really liked this film, especially because at first glance I didnt think it was gonna be worth watching.

This led me to write my very first review here on IMDB to help convince more to watch it.

I was impressed by the filmmakers who put this together because it takes a lot of effort and guts to complete a feature, and this left me with a good feeling about change in a way that was not very cheesy or "Hollywood".

The small town Texas setting really sold it for me as a real story with regular people.

A catalyst for self improvement

So I watched this because of Jake Johnson as I like him ever since New Girl. I wasn't disappointed. Not only does he re-assume his role as the slacker who does not live up to his potential with admirable effectiveness, the movie itself does deliver as well.

Of the main characters many evolve a lot during the few hours spent in that supermarket during a prolonged robbery and even though it could become claustrophobic the character development keeps us engaged. The crime story is only a catalyst for the self improvement theme of the movie.

This is one of those low budget indies that outshine mainstream productions by having a heart, mind, and soul.

A story of reflection and change

Todd is the assistant manager at a food store gets robbed one evening, and he and the handful of customers have to wait until the store's safe opens at 5am. While waiting, each person gets some life lessons, i.e. enrichment not robbery, and Todd learns/feels the truth of what he had allowed to happen in his life due to some bad luck years ago.

While some viewers may be quite satisfied with their lives, or able to live in their bubble of ignorance, and lack of self-knowledge, to others, and myself, one has a chance to see if the assumptions buried in one's own life are still necessary or helpful. To question is the beginning of unpicking the lock that keeps us bound. That a small, inexpensive movie can provide the grounds for insight says a lot about the film's basic worth.
