Bone Lake Review: Never Trust an Airbnb Booking Error #FantasticFest
Bone Lake isn’t just a fun name. For this slow-burn psychological thriller, it’s a promise. Following two couples stuck together in a lavish rental home after a booking error, the husbands jokingly argue whether the lake is named after a local Urban Legend about a serial killer or a guarantee that everyone who stays gets laid. But Bone Lake director Mercedes Bryce-Morgan (Spoonful of Sugar) thankfully asks: Why not both?

Directing from a screenplay by Joshua Friedlander (Holly Slept Over), Mercedes Bryce Morgan’s new thriller deals with the messy, complicated issues that sour long term relationships. Diego & Sage (portrayed by Marco Pigossi & Maddie Hasson) are struggling with the mounting pressure of a single income, now what Diego has quit his teaching position to pursue writing full time. They’re hoping that a secluded weekend getaway will help them reconnect…which is exactly what Will &Cinn (Alex Rose...

“I’ll see you down the road”: The Undertaker Might Come Out of Retirement Once Again After The Rock Vows Payback After WrestleMania 40
Image
Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock’s heel turn leading up to WrestleMania Xl was one of the main draws for audiences. Johnson deliberately elevated his performance and turned it up to 11, wreaking havoc on Cody Rhodes and his dreams of finishing his story. While he and Roman Reigns won Night 1, it was a completely different result on Night 2.

Before the Undertaker, The Rock faced off against John Cena at WrestleMania Xl

Despite Night 2’s match being held under Bloodline rules, and various members including Johnson creating roadblocks for Rhodes, the American Nightmare emerged victorious at the end. Many superstars came to aid Rhodes, including The Undertaker, who chokeslammed the Rock. It seems the Final Boss is not done with the Deadman yet, as he seeks revenge for his actions.

[Panic Fest 2024 Review] The Ceremony Is About To Begin Blends Egyptian Lore with Found Footage Frights
Fresh from Panic Fest 2024, The Ceremony is About to Begin unwraps itself like a meticulously preserved mummy, serving up a fresh twist on the horror mockumentary scene. Directed by Sean Nichols Lynch, this found footage film cleverly marries the allure of ancient Egyptian rituals with the chilling uncertainty of cult dynamics, all captured through a ‘documentary’ lens.

See Also74%SCOREReviews[Review] Caitlin Cronenberg’s Pre-Apocalyptic Thriller Humane Explores The Dark Future of Our Climate Crisis “…a fresh twist on the horror mockumentary scene.”

From the outset, Lynch sets the tone with a series of eerie, documentary-style interviews featuring ex-cult members that echo the polished yet ominous feel of a Netflix or HBO true-crime special. These initial snippets offer a glimpse into the enigmatic and unsettling past of the cult, setting a solid foundation for horror fans to cling to. It’s here that we meet our filmmaker protagonist, Keith (John Laird...

The Phantom of the Opera (1989) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

“It was my choice”: John Cena on a Major WWE Decision Many Fans Still Don’t Agree With
Image
John Cena’s tenure in WWE stands as one of the most illustrious in the sport’s history, cementing his position as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, if not the greatest. Widely regarded as one of WWE’s biggest icons, Cena’s legacy can’t really be touched by anyone and it’s not really hard to see why either. With that said, there is a massive decision that the Leader of Cenation made which many fans absolutely do not agree with one bit and it changed the course of WWE for good.

[Panic Fest 2024 Review] Irish Folk Horror Says Forget About Love, All You Need Is Death
Image
Music is one of the most mysterious natural phenomena of our world and in Irish folk horror All You Need Is Death, music becomes an ancestral force of doom and destruction. Written, directed, and produced by Paul Duane this chilling slow-burn dives headfirst into a hallucinatory world that peels back reality and opens the doors of perception to plane where entities and energies older than mankind thrive and feed on the very fabric of our being.

The importance of music, specifically Irish folk song, is immediately established. Anna (Simone Collins) and Aleks (Charlie Maher) travel the country, interviewing and secretly recording rare Irish folk ballads. The people they meet with are incredibly protective of these songs, and it’s as clear as day to everyone that Anna and Aleks have ulterior motives in acquiring these snippets of their culture. Like headhunting protected animals, Anna and Aleks are specifically seeking out...

[Panic Fest 2024 Review] See A Blood-Soaked Samara Weaving in Post Apocalyptic Horror Azrael
E.L. Katz at an event for The ABCs of Death 2 (2014)
You might often feel like you’re already living through an apocalyptic nightmare, but I assure you that E.L. Katz’s new culty survival horror Azrael is way weirder and more wild than anything you’re doomscrolling through late at night. Written by Simon Barrett, and starring genre badass Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Azrael is a blood-soaked and buck wild revenge tale set in a fractured world. It’s got everything you could ask for in a post-apocalyptic horror flick. It’s got cults, it’s got shotguns, it’s got seething anger, and (best of all) it’s got weird hellscape creatures lurking in the forest that rip people to shreds...

[Review] The First Omen Is a Prequel That Possesses with Style
If you thought babysitting was tough, try stopping the birth of the Antichrist. The First Omen sweeps you into a visually lush 1970s Rome, serving up a sumptuous feast for the eyes that’s as stylish as it is shadowy. Although you might find yourself guessing the twists before they unfurl, the film keeps its grip with a dark, rich portrayal of evil’s origins. It’s all for you, Damien.

“[The First Omen serves] up a sumptuous feast for the eyes that’s as stylish as it is shadowy.”

From the opening scenes, the film devilishly dazzles with a rich color palette that superbly captures the eerie 1970s Rome, replete with political unrest, religious skepticism and foreboding religious iconography. The grandeur of the Eternal City is captured in sweeping vistas, which, combined with a robust orchestral score, elevates the production value to a level that’s a rarity in modern horror flicks. There...

[Panic Fest 2024 Review] 9/10 Spiders Give French Monster Horror Infested Eight Spooky Thumbs Up
Image
Whoo-ee! I love me a scary spider movie. And like an intricate, hypnotically inviting web, no two spider movies are alike. There are funny spider movies. There are campy spider movies. There are metaphorical spider movies about the unraveling mind, and there are even spider movies so filled with little creepy crawlers that you walk around your house with a slipper in your hand for days after watching them. And what luck that we have Two scary spider movies in such short order, both entirely definitely breeds of hair-raising horror.

Sébastien Vaniček’s Infested, coming hot on the heels of Kiah Roche-Turner’s hilariously Sting, is the exact opposite of a comforting watch. It reminds you that spiders are t e r r i f y i n g, that they thrive (and hide) in every dark corner of this word, and that so many of them (too many of them!

Haunted houses are scary and all, but you know what’s really terrifying?? Haunted…mirrors! Join your horror hosts Jon & Kim as they kick off a double feature of haunted mirrors, beginning with Amityville: A New Generation.

Is still unclear whether the mirror is haunted by evil or a ghost, or just the image of the Amityville Horror house. To be honest, I don’t think the movie itself knows what drives the mirror, but all we do know is that it someone manages to make people dead. Hooray!

[Review] Dev Patel’s Action Epic Monkey Man Delivers Blood-Soaked Revenge
Image
Dev Patel (The Green Knight) makes his directorial debut with the action-packed revenge thriller Monkey Man. Originally intended for Netflix this block-rocking bloodbath is finally making its way to the big screen after a tumultuous production that also brought in Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions (no introduction needed), as well as Thunder Road Films, known in large part for their work with the John Wick and Sicario films. And in keeping with the spirit of the films that came before it, and the chaotic nature of its development, Monkey Man is a bare-knuckle brawl of a story built on a foundation of blood, sweat, and tears.

Dev Patel plays our nameless lead, credited as Kid, who has been scratching and scrapping his way through poverty in hopes of one day taking revenge on the people responsible for murder of his mother and the destruction of their entire village. His story is a mystery to us,...

Bones Shares An Intriguing Creative Connection With A Nightmare On Elm Street
Image
Imagine if you will a line of dominoes that increase in size as they move left to right. A man stands behind the smallest domino, poised to knock it forward, which will instigate a chain reaction leading to the largest domino toppling over. This "domino theory" illustration helps to visualize the causal interconnection between a seemingly innocuous event in the past and a monumental event in the present or near future. It's especially handy when attempting to understand how 20th Century Fox studio head Darryl F. Zanuck's mother getting a cold in 1908 led indirectly to the creation and broad success of the comedy procedural series "Bones" in 2005. And not because "Bones" was a Fox show. The connection is much more serpentine and intriguing.

You see, when the Wahoo, Wisconsin-born Sarah Louise Zanuck caught a hard-to-shake chill in the latter years of the 20th century's first decade, she thought it'd...

Alan Wake 2: Do You Need To Play The Original & American Nightmare First?
Image
Alan Wake 2 can be enjoyed as a standalone experience without playing the previous games, but fans of the franchise will find connections and references. The game continues the story of the original Alan Wake, with Saga Anderson searching for a missing FBI agent and referencing events from the first game. Alan Wake 2 is part of a larger Remedy universe, connecting to other games like Control and the TV series Bright Falls, providing a deeper understanding for those familiar with the extended lore.

The release of Alan Wake 2 has been met with wide approval, praised for its strong storytelling and creepy atmosphere. Naturally, as a sequel to a game made in 2010, many wonder whether experience with the previous entries in the franchise is necessary to play or understand Alan Wake 2. Like many sequels, the story of Alan Wake 2 directly follows the events of the first game, but the question of whether...

‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ Director Says Disney Execs Were ‘Afraid It Might Hurt Their Brand’: It ‘Would’ve Been More Successful’ With Studio Name on It
Image
Henry Selick and Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is officially 30 years old. In a recent interview with The New York Times, the two collaborators recalled Disney not wanting to have its name on the project due to its darker tone. The studio had the film developed under its more adult-leaning production banner Touchstone Pictures. “Nightmare” grossed $50 million in its original domestic box office run, but Selick believes the film would’ve performed even better had Disney put its name behind it.

“Anytime you’re doing something like that, which was unknown: stop motion, the main character doesn’t have any eyeballs and it’s all music, what’s to feel comfortable about?” Burton said, noting that he totally understands why Disney didn’t put its full name behind the project. “Of course they would be nervous about it.”

“They were afraid it might hurt their brand,” Selick added.

10 MCU Villains Almost Introduced Years Earlier By Unused Scripts
Image
Many memorable and intimidating Marvel villains have been left out of the MCU films, with some almost making appearances in various scripts but ultimately being cut due to time constraints or re-writes. Characters like Nightmare, Lord Tantalus, and Ezekiel Stane were all planned to appear in Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Avengers, respectively, but were ultimately scrapped from the final films. The inclusion of these cut villains could have added depth and excitement to their respective films, and while some of them have made appearances in later projects or adaptations, many of them remain forgotten and unseen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a dense roster of Marvel Comics villains to draw from over the years for inclusion in its films, with many of them almost appearing years earlier than their eventual debut. From small-time crooks to mighty universal threats, the McU's villains have run the gamut of power,...

The Frustration That Drove Was Craven To Finally Make New Nightmare
Image
The 1994 horror movie "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" was the seventh film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, and featured one of the cleverest conceits for a horror sequel. The vicious supernatural serial killer Freddy Krueger — able to kill his victims from inside their dreams — somehow escaped the surly bounds of fiction and began stalking the actors and filmmakers who made the original "The Nightmare on Elm Street" a decade prior. Heather Langenkamp appears as herself, as does Robert Englund, John Saxon, Craven, and New Line Cinema bigwig Robert Shaye. Langenkamp did have a young child in 1994 — her late son Daniel Atticus Anderson was born in 1991 — but in the movie, Langenkamp's child was named Jacob and played by actor Miko Hughes.

Prior to "New Nightmare," the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series had become increasingly outlandish and cartoony. Freddy was no longer a menacing murderer, but a comedic supervillain who dispatched his victims in creative,...

How Alan Wake 2 Differs From The Original
Image
Alan Wake 2 will have improved graphics, with support for both 1080p and 4K resolutions, as well as a potential steady 60 Fps on more powerful systems. The game will feature a new protagonist, Saga Anderson, and a different story set 13 years after the events of the first game. Gameplay in Alan Wake 2 will expand on the original, introducing new enemy types, reducing combat quantity, and implementing new mechanics.

Alan Wake 2 is undeniably different from its predecessor. Some of those differences are no doubt borne out of necessity; it's been a full 13 years and two console generations since the first game's release, and a lot has changed in the interim. Player tastes, platform exclusivity, and even console and PC specifications have come a long way since 2010, and Alan Wake 2 needs to adapt in order to keep up with the times.

But still, Alan Wake 2 is a sequel, and a direct sequel at that.

Diablo 4: Most Broken Builds For the Season 2 Endgame
Image
Diablo 4‘s Season 2 update is not only surprisingly fun but it raised the general power level of nearly every class in the game by a healthy degree. Of course, even the healthiest update will still result in builds that are simply broken.

In this case, I’m reserving the term “broken” for builds that can easily clear high-level content without demanding much skill in the process. These builds are also capable of generating six or seven-figure Critical Strike attacks and are able to do so with relative consistency. So, yes, I think the word “broken” applies.

Before we get into that, though, you may notice there isn’t a Barbarian build on this list. Well…there are some good Barbarian builds out there, but none of them are on the level of these other builds. If you want to play Barbarian, consider a Whirlwind or Death Blow/Upheaval build.

What's This? The Nightmare Before Christmas Re-Enters The Top 5 At The Box Office
Image
30 years after its original release, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is, once again, doing big business at the box office. The unquestioned multi-holiday classic -- as both a Halloween movie and a Christmas movie -- was re-released by Disney in more than 1,600 theaters over the weekend in honor of its 30th anniversary. Audiences turned up in a big way as the film made its way into the top five on the domestic charts.

Director Henry Selick's "Nightmare Before Christmas" landed at number five on the charts for the weekend with a $4.1 million haul, per The Numbers. That put it ahead of "Saw X" ($3.58 million) and behind "Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie" ($4.45 million), both of which were in their fourth weekends. Meanwhile, the Tim Burton-produced claymation classic originally hit theaters in limited release on October 13, 1993. The movie's running global total now stands at $95.3 million and counting. Depending on how well this re-release goes,...

Why The Nightmare Before Christmas Studio Was Afraid To Call Tim Burton-Produced Classic A Disney Movie
Image
Disney initially hesitated to embrace The Nightmare Before Christmas, releasing it under the Touchstone studio imprint instead of their own brand. As The Nightmare Before Christmas grew in popularity and critical acclaim, Disney realized the benefits it offered. The company has capitalized on its success with merchandising, even incorporating the film into its parks with a seasonal adaptation of the Haunted Mansion ride.

Disney was not originally willing to embrace Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. The movie stars Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon and Danny Elfman) as the King of Halloween Town. As Jack discovers Christmas Town, the two towns confront each other as their conflicting spirits begin to change the entire holiday landscape. The movie was a success for Disney, bringing in over $90 million on a budget of $25 million and has since become a holiday classic.

While its popularity grew over the years, Disney was not originally willing to embrace the movie.

Diablo 4: Best Nightmare Dungeons For Season 2
Image
Diablo 4‘s Season 2 update is a real game changer that impacts nearly every aspect of the experience in some way. However, some of the updates’ most important changes focus on the game’s roster of Nightmare Dungeons.

In short, Nightmare Dungeons are easier to navigate, filled with more enemies, and yield greater Xp rewards. It’s a global buff to the entire process of running dungeons. In the grand tradition of such updates, though, it turns out that some dungeons are still generally more effective than others.

With that in mind, here’s a brief look at some of the best (and worst) Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4‘s Season 2 update.

Every Diablo 4 Season 2 Nightmare Dungeon

As before, Nightmare Dungeons don’t become available in Diablo 4 until you’ve unlocked and enabled World Tier 3. As before, some Nightmare Dungeons don’t become available until after you reach World Tier 4. Put it all together,...

Tim Burton Created An Odd Nightmare Before Christmas Plot Hole 18 Years Later
Image
The gravestone of Zero in Frankenweenie suggests a major plot hole in The Nightmare Before Christmas, indicating that humans live in or parallel to Halloween Town. The existence of humans in The Nightmare Before Christmas raises questions about the separation and interaction between Halloween Town and the real world. Another theory is that Jack Skellington and Zero lived in Frankenweenie's world as humans before coming to exist in Halloween Town, explaining Zero's gravestone in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Legendary filmmaker Tim Burton has been behind some of the greatest Halloween films of all time, but what makes them extra special is the ways in which they connect to each other, including one 18-year-old plot hole between The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie. Released in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas follows pumpkin king Jack Skellington as he becomes obsessed with Christmas. Meanwhile, 2012's Frankenweenie is about a young Victor Frankenstein who brings...

How The Nightmare Before Christmas Got Made
Image
Another Halloween season, another reason to break out The Nightmare Before Christmas. Jack Skellington and friends have duly taken over the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, and Danny Elfman is leading a 30th anniversary concert celebration at the Hollywood Bowl. It’s quite the show of mainstream acceptance towards a movie that was once a cast-off to Disney’s Touchstone arm. But then, Nightmare has always worked on long timetables. Just winning a chance to make the film was a nearly ten-year trek, with another two years in production. But the journey was worth it, given how meaningful Nightmare became for the three key creative forces behind the picture.

Peter Jackson's Nightmare on Elm Street Movie That Never Was
Image
Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare is the official fifth sequel in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, one meant to send the dream reaper off in grand fashion. It didn't. Instead, it followed the pattern of progressively worse sequels and did nothing to bring Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) back to the horrific, fear-inducing monster of the first film. It should have been better. And it very nearly was.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Director Addresses Tim Burton's Influence and Sequel Chances: "Why Mess With That?"
Image
Director Henry Selick reflects on the gradual rise in popularity of The Nightmare Before Christmas and how Disney initially had concerns about its horror elements. Disney eventually embraced the film's success and capitalized on its growing popularity through merchandise and themed attractions. Selick suggests that a potential sequel may not be necessary, but a prequel exploring Jack Skellington's backstory could be an intriguing idea that he and Tim Burton might consider.

In a recent interview with People celebrating the film’s 10th anniversary, director Henry Selick got candid about the gradual rise in popularity of his film The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton’s influence, and the possibility of a prequel film.

Before his spectacular stop-motion films like James and the Giant Peach, Coraline, and his latest Jordan Peele-produced Wendell & Wild, Selick’s claim to fame was his directorial debut with The Nightmare Before Christmas. The animated musical surrounds Jack Skellington,...

Henry Selick wants Nightmare Before Christmas prequel
Henry Selick is interested in making a 'Nightmare Before Christmas' prequel. The 70-year-old director helmed the classic 1993 stop-motion animated festive flick, which was conceived by Tim Burton, and though he insisted a sequel to the film is unlikely to happen, he likes the idea of exploring Jack Skellington's back story. He told People magazine: "['Nightmare...'] is a perfect movie [that] came out of the perfect time, only to grow into something far bigger over the years.""I think Tim in particular feels like, why mess with that?"He certainly doesn't need to make more money from a sequel. He has had so many other successes, and so far nobody's come up with a great idea for a sequel. "And I still think that Tim gets to decide. I don't think there's any idea that would convince him. That being said, "It might be more interesting to do a prequel. There...

Is The Nightmare Before Christmas Worth Watching in 2023?
Image
Thirty years ago today, one of the most visionary animated films of all time, The Nightmare Before Christmas, was unveiled to the world. Produced and conceived by legendary visualist Tim Burton and directed by stop-motion wizard Henry Sellick (who would later helm the excellent Coraline and the underrated James and the Giant Peach), it's safe to say the public was unprepared for the jolt of imagination they brought to the big screen.

But history proved kind to Nightmare in a way it is to few other films; while it was only a modest box-office success initially, the immense critical acclaim led to increased attention in subsequent years. Over time, The Nightmare Before Christmas evolved into one of the biggest cult classics ever, and watching it today, it's nothing if not deserving of the esteem it's gotten.

Creativity Fully Unleashed

Almost everyone knows the story of The Nightmare Before Christmas by now,...

Nightmare On Elm Street Actor Reveals One Detail Wes Craven Got Surprisingly Right In Horror Classic's Script
Image
Wes Craven's script for A Nightmare on Elm Street brilliantly captured the way teenagers talk, adding a casual realism to the film's horror elements. Craven's genius extended beyond dialogue, as he also nailed the film's premise of a supernatural killer terrorizing kids in their dreams. The casting choices, including Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger and Heather Langenkamp as Nancy, were spot-on, contributing to the film's lasting impact on horror movie history.

A Nightmare on Elm Street star Heather Langenkamp reveals the one detail Wes Craven got surprisingly right in the classic horror movie’s script. Craven was responsible for some of the most memorable exploitation films of the 1970s, but he took a step up in class with 1984’s imaginative supernatural slasher movie starring iconic movie monster Freddy Krueger. An entire franchise of Krueger-centered movies, TV shows and other media would follow, but the original Nightmare remains...

Langenkamp on why she turned down so many movies post-Nightmare
Image
Nancy Thompson is one of the great final girls in slasher history, overcoming Freddy Krueger while her friends ended up with knives through the chest and being tossed around bedroom walls. With just A Nightmare on Elm Street, portrayer Heather Langenkamp began getting call after call offering her other horror roles, but all of those were nothing more than, as she put it, a “Taco Bell burrito” – and she means that in a bad way!

Appearing on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast (via MovieWeb), Heather Langenkamp said her love for her trademark character actually helped keep her away from the spotlight, despite the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street. “Like there’s never as good a part as Nancy. It would just be hard to do that. It’d be like, you know, having this great meal with everything there, and then you go and have a Taco Bell burrito.

A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Heather Langenkamp Compares Other Horror Roles to Nancy, Likens Them to a ‘Taco Bell Burrito’
Image
Heather Langenkamp, who played Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street, believes that no horror role she took after that could compare to the quality of Nancy. Langenkamp auditioned for other horror films after the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street, but she didn't want to take another horror movie part because she knew none would be as good as Nancy. Langenkamp's role as Nancy Thompson in the Elm Street franchise became her most iconic role, despite being told to remove it from her resume during auditions due to the stigma attached to horror films at the time.

Nancy Thompson is a one-of-a-kind horror heroine. Heather Langenkamp landed the role of Freddy Krueger’s (Robert Englund) formidable foe in writer/director Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) nearly 40 years ago. And over the decades, Langenkamp has been offered the opportunity to play other horror-centric parts thanks...

A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Heather Langenkamp Says Co-Star Johnny Depp Seemed "Kind of Tortured" by Acting
Image
Heather Langenkamp remembers Johnny Depp being a dedicated and serious actor during their time working together on A Nightmare on Elm Street. Langenkamp initially thought Depp would go back to being a musician after the film, as she knew about his passion for music. Langenkamp is still close with some of her Nightmare co-stars, including Robert Englund and Amanda Wyss, and their friendships have grown over the years through conventions.

“I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy.” A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) taunts Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp), with those famous words, before he sucks her boyfriend Glen into a bed and turns him into a bright-red fountain of blood! Glen was, of course, the first feature film appearance for Hollywood A-lister Johnny Depp, and Langenkamp recalls the famous actor being a pleasure to work with during the original A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Langenkamp said during...

[Review] Alien Invasion Thriller No One Will Save You Delivers a Suspenseful Survivor Story
Life on the farm aint easy, but it’s a hell of a lot harder when you’ve got flying saucers in your backyard! 2023’s newest sci-fi horror flick No One Will Save You, written, directed, and produced by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous), serves up a gripping story set in a quiet town facing a cosmic threat, all with nearly no dialog.

Right out of the gate, this movie stands out with its unique approach. It tosses a mere five words of dialogue into its 93-minute runtime, making it a fascinating experiment in visual storytelling. In a world of endless chatter, this film challenges itself to do more with less.

Leading the charge is Kaitlyn Dever as the relentlessly resourceful and un-abductable Brynn. a character that could give classic ’80s Final Girls one helluva high-five. Dever’s facial expressions and body language paint the picture of Brynn’s journey, from her...

[Review] John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams Offers a Glimpse into the Dark Side of the ‘Burbs
Suburbia, often painted as the epitome of safety and tranquility, gets a dark makeover in John Carpenter’s latest cinematic venture, Suburban Screams. This six-episode unscripted anthology promises to unearth the dark secrets of seemingly safe neighborhoods, but does it truly deliver the chills?

The mini-series dives deep into the horrors of suburbia, blending documentary techniques with cinematic reenactments. Real-life tales of terror, as told by those who lived through them, form the backbone of this anthology. From the ghostly aftermath of a Ouija party gone wrong in ‘Kelly’ to the relentless stalking in ‘Phone Stalker‘, the variety of stories is commendable. There’s a mix of urban legends, supernatural tales, and very real crimes that keep the viewer on their toes.

The strongest episode of the bunch is undoubtedly ‘The Bunny Man’. Set in Fairfax, Virginia, it recounts the legend of a man in a rudimentary bunny costume who,...

The magic of cinema. The lights dim, the screen illuminates, and we’re transported to another world. But what happens when that world contains… another world?
