Isolation

I saw this documentary while at Edinburgh film festival, I thought it was one of the best documentaries I've seen in a very long time. The doc traces the life of ex-solider, and now social photography, Stuart Griffiths. Opening on atmospheric dark city streets, Griffiths recalls his time living on the streets and the many ex-soldiers he meets in military drop-in centres. As the documentary unfolds we encounter the scars (inside and out) that many soldiers carry with them after war. The shocking and emotional stories of these ex-veterans appear in long unedited takes. What really stayed with me was the honesty and bravery of the soldiers portrayed, and the sense of pride of serving in the army. The beautiful cinematography and excellent evocative soundtrack (interestingly composed by director Luke Seomore) add to power of the film. A film which I would strongly advise people to see, especially in this age of British foreign policy.
