I recently watched Wolf Hollow (2023) on Prime. The storyline follows a young team of filmmakers traveling across Pennsylvania, excited to make their next film. Their ideal spot turns into a nightmare when they're attacked by werewolves, with locals divided between helping and harming them.
Directed by Mark Cantu (Average Joe), the film stars Felissa Rose (Summer Camp), Lynn Towry (Shivers), Hannah Fierman (V/H/S), August Kyss (Murdercise), and Angel Nichole Bradford (Desperate Souls).
While the movie is as cliche and straightforward as a horror film can be, it's intriguing to see some horror legends in the cast. Felissa Rose's portrayal as a backwoods country hillbilly might not have been a perfect fit. The dialogue and acting are average, with Lynn Towry standing out as appropriately annoying and a fun character to hope for her demise. The horror elements, including werewolf costumes and attack scenes, are passable, but some scenes could have been better. The film relies on overhead shots during werewolf attacks, limiting visibility. The ending has a few worthwhile kills but is predictable and cliché.
In conclusion, Wolf Hollow is a below-average addition to the horror genre, primarily appealing to diehard horror fans only. I'd give this a 4/10 and recommend skipping it.

An indie film crew has descended upon rural Pennsylvania following their local scout to his family's property. The scout has been estranged from his family for an unknown reason. The local area is being hounded by animalistic terror.
The acting is mostly amateurish. The production is not much better. I actually like the opening five minutes. The rural biker lowlife party brings out the right vibe and I really like the unrestraint gore. It's good indie fun. Once the gore stops, the movie struggles. It tries to have some fun with diva Marla Taylor although she gets knocked off quite early. It falls a bit short.

Based on the editing nightmare opening scene, I thought this flick would be bottom-of-the-barrel garbage. But once it properly begins... well... the sound mix is off, the lighting is inconsistent, and the actors are all in different movies.
However, as a comedy and a werewolf movie, there are some genuine laughs and fun gags. It's just not consistent enough for the fun bits to overwhelm the amateur and boring bits. Because, yeah, despite everything both positive and negative, its biggest sin is bogging down in its second half.
The practical effects are a mixed bag. The gore and splatter isn't bad, especially when used for yuks. The werewolf could have been ok if it didn't look like a particularly expensive inanimate Halloween mask.
I've seen worse movies and this honestly should be among them. But it tries real hard, I genuinely laughed a few times, and I kind of admire what they managed to pull off. If only they had the talent and the money to do better.

The few 10/10 reviews here are obviously from people involved with the film, related to people who are or were part of the crowd fund. It's not even close, not even in the horror genre alone, or even the werewolf genre. It's bad.
Good for the makers for getting their film made, but more time should have been spent on the script, especially the dialogue. Way too talky for it's own good.
The cinematography isn't great either, often finding the camera placement in awkward positions, giving a very messy feel to scenes.
I understand that it's a crowd funded film and had a very low budget, but the script should have been worked on a lot more and fine-tuned before deciding to green light the thing.
Like I said, congratulations to all involved on getting a film made. But next time, spend a helluva lot more time on the script, it's one of the most important aspects of any film.
Best of luck in the future.

I've seen lots of movies in my 56 years, but I have never seen one this awful. I barely made it past the opening credits. I have zero artistic talent of any kind, so I've never before said "I could have done better," when it comes to a movie. Unfortunately, this one actually made me say that out loud. The acting? There isn't any. It's just some amateurs wandering around making inane conversation. The writing? There isn't any. I'm convinced they just made it up as they went, and it wouldn't have mattered because the sound mixing is so bad you can't make out any of the "dialogue" anyway. The special effects? Well, that's pure Spirit Halloween store on a very low budget. Save yourself! I cannot imagine how this movie was even made, let alone released.
I cannot think of anything good to say about this film other than it is mercifully short. The sound quality is dreadful so it is hard at times to make out what is being said. The camera shots are at weird angles. The acting is dire. The story doesn't make sense and apart from werewolves being able to be killed with silver had very little to do with normally accepted werewolf folklore. The special effects are especially awful. If you value your sanity then don't watch this movie, there are much better ways to spend 90 minutes - you could for example break out a can of paint put some on a wall and watch it dry!

I appreciate that not everyone can be an Oscar worthy Director/Producer/Actor, and i have, in my time seen some very good low budget films, however, this is not one of those.
The introduction is cliché ridden, and a tired trope. Then the classic 'One Year Later' thing. Just give it a miss, please.
The acting is, well sub standard at very best, completely hopeless at worst. The script doesn't help though, it has to be said, and the Direction is amateur. It's just all way too over the top. The camera work leaves much to be desired too, at times i get the feeling they're trying to be arty and clever with it, but it never works. The best shots are drone shots, and that says it all.
Unless you were involved in this film in some way, i would advise people to avoid this. It's unfortunately just not good. The best thing about it is the scenery.

I have seen a lot of movies that are way worse than this one. It's not nearly as bad as some of the reviews I've read. The acting is not that bad for a low budget horror film actually some of the actors were pretty decent and really none were terrible by no means. The makeup was definitely better than some other films I have watched. It's by no means Oscar worthy but it does have some interesting characters and some comical moments which are pretty funny so if you are looking for something to kill some time and are not to critical it is actually worth watching. I gave it four stars I thought it deserved that much.
I was initially lured in to watch the 2023 movie "Wolf Hollow" as it was a werewolf movie that I had already seen. And the movie's cover definitely did a fair job in making me stop up and pick up the movie. Without ever having heard about director Mark Cantu's 2023 movie, I didn't know what I was in for, aside from it being a werewolf movie, which essentially was all I needed to watch it.
Writers Mark Cantu and Brian Ceponis put together a script and storyline that wasn't particularly impressive. The movie starts out okay, but quickly settles into a slump from which the narrative never really recovers. And the movie advances at a sluggish pace, without much excitement or thrills.
The acting performances in the movie were fairly rigid for the most parts. There were some pretty awful performances, but also some fair enough among the actors and actresses. I've seen enough low budget horror movies to be familiar with Felissa Rose, whom happened to be the only familiar face on the screen.
The special effects in the movie were actually good, taking the rest of the movie into consideration. And truth be told, the special effects do actually carry the movie a long way. The werewolves, though, well they were inarticulate and looked nothing more than what they actually were; and that was Halloween latex masks. That just doesn't cut it, the werewolves should be able to close their mouths, which they couldn't do in this movie.
If you are a diehard fan of werewolf movies, then check out "Wolf Hollow". I do like werewolf movies, but the majority of them are subpar movies, and "Wolf Hollow" fell into that category for me.
My rating of director Mark Cantu's 2023 movie "Wolf Hollow" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

Mark Cantu's low-budget lycanthrope romp plays like background noise for a pizza-and-soda sleepover: glossy CW-style twenty-somethings, minimal menace. In the beginning, the werewolves barely show-a blessing, given their party-store masks-so most of the runtime is banter, flirting and shaky flashlights. Effects are serviceable, gore restrained, pacing brisk enough that you won't resent the clichés piling up alongside the empty popcorn bowl. Harmless, disposable fun for baby horror fans; seasoned werewolf devotees will crave a meatier bite. Stream it once, then let it drift away with the next full moon.

Absolutely Amazing film!
There is no hiding this is a werewolf movie as Right of the bat with the full action it catches you completely off guard.
Plenty of 'oh Sh@T' moments with great kills.
This is must to watch with a perfect cast for the film with your unlikely hero's who give you a rollercoaster of emotions with great catchphrases
I can't rate this highly enough, for me it's right up there with American werewolf in London and Dog soldiers . I really hope we get to see more of the Hollow cast in either prequel or sequel
You need to wait for the credits too what a way to close out a film.
#followthehollow #luckysteve.

It's a crowd-funded low-budget werewolf horror. And within those parameters it's pretty well done. The plot is straightforward and the performances are mostly fine. The creature designs are effective and they're reminiscent of the hulking anthropomorphized wolves from Dog Soldiers - if it ain't broke don't fix it. The gore and action are competently staged. The downside, aside from the constraints of the budget, is the attempted humor. It's sparsely utilized and it generally falls flat, especially strange and dated references to the show $chitt's Creek.
I'll add that as proud denizen of Pennsyltucky I found the accents distracting. Yes, we are feral hillbillies; but no, we don't actually sound like we're from Kentucky or Alabama or whatever some of the actors were going for here.

I love werewolf movies. An American Werewolf in London, The Howling. Dog Soldiers, Wolf Cop, and Ginger Snaps are some of my favorite werewolf movies. So I have been anxious to see how a low budget indie werewolf movie like Wolf Hollow would hold up to the greats. I'm happy to say Wolf Hollow is a worthy addition to the genre. Despite its small budget, the werewolves and practical effects look great. Well written and well acted, it's a compelling story that moves at a quick pace. Kudos to director Mark Cantu, who does a lot with a little and clearly knows how to get the best out of his actors.
Speaking of the actors, lots of familiar faces in this one, including Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, Shivers), Hannah Fierman (V/H/S), and Angel Bradford, who is in practically every indie horror movie these days.
The movie starts with a bang, and the tension never really lets up, there's never a dull moment. There's plenty of action. Wolf Hollow's 80 minute runtime is perfect, you won't be looking at your watch during this one. If you like werewolf movies, you'll definitely want to check out Wolf Hollow.

From start to finish, Wolf Hollow is an action-packed fur filled thrill ride. Fantastic performances from all of the cast. Stellar shot selection coupled with eerie scenery. The pace of the film never lets up with a several sub-plots flowing into a no holds barred conclusion. The Werewolf creatures in this film are both aesthetically phenomenal and intimidating.
Werewolf films have taken a back seat to the meteoric rise of zombie cinema and slasher sensations. Hopefully, Wolf Hollow, an old school creature feature, will spark the flame for more films featuring the ancient legend of the beast.

Wolf Hollow
from writer/director Mark Cantu
A fun and well executed lycanthropic motion picture. A way cool werewolf movie with claws and canines that slash and bite. This is a film that delivers the goods. Great job by all involved.
Was a pleasure watching this one as I recognized and appreciated the talents of many of the cast. Standouts for me were; The character of Evie (Felissa Rose), was a joy to watch. Watching Felissa in any production is consistently a positive experience, as she continues to bring a level of performance matched only by her amazing personality. Lynn Lowry and Hannah Fierman once more showed why they often appear in these films. Showcasing their talents, and willingness to be a variety of character types. The character of Bart (Brian Ceponis)was another that shone like a full moon in autumn. My favourite character, as I suppose was the favourite of many was Lucky Steve (Brandon Krum). Kudos Krum, kudos! Well acted.
This somewhat meta film about low-budget filmmakers from low budget filmmakers (who must have had a decent budget by indie standards as the production value and talent attached was significant), was what all indies should aspire to be. I got a feeling from watching that all gave their best, and it was truly a passion project believed in and supported by many with their blood, sweat and some tears. Mostly blood.
In this fast paced hour and a twenty film there was gore a plenty, torsos ripped open, limbs torn off, explosions, SPFX, gun play, stunts, blood, blood, blood and guts, lots of lacerations and a memorable exploding head. All done to a professional level. Well done 👍
Other notable folks I appreciated seeing both in the major action of the film and the end credits included; Robert Todd Kennedy, Erica Dyer, Brian Bell, BJ Mezek, Angel Nichole Bradford, August Kyss, Lisa Hinds, Michael Della Pia, Robert Bess, Rudy Ledbetter and seeing some other names in the credits of folks I know, or know of in a peripheral or tangential sense from the independent film world.

Arriving in a small town, a film crew looking to shoot a movie in the area runs into a series of interactions with the locals when they try to get their shots, but when they find the area is patrolled by a werewolf clan looking to reclaim their territory have to escape the creatures to get away alive.
Overall, this was an immensely enjoyable indie werewolf effort. One of the best aspects of this one is the generally effective setup that works through a strong series of storylines throughout. The opening half deals with the family living in the town coming under attack by the creature which puts them in conflict with the rest of the authorities for the delinquency that's emerged since the attack, their struggle to make ends meet, and the series of confrontations that arise once the film crew arrives that brings about the revelation one of them is the estranged son. The clashing that comes about due to this with the local family members not wanting to trust him due to his leaving them while the father sees the chance to make amends and the remaining crew wants to just make their movie is immensely intriguing which is fantastic at creating an enjoyable setup to make this work. As a result, this setup allows the film a great series of werewolf attacks that are incredibly enjoyable and effective. The brutality is on fine display from the very start with the outright massacre of the group shown partying around a campfire that includes limbs being ripped off, heads crushed, entrails ripped out, and much more featured in a fast and ferocious scene to start this on a high note. Later scenes, with the creature appearing during the accident at the film shoot attacking several members of the crew or the insert shots of the creatures around town knocking off the various human figures around them, set even more fun scenes in motion in preparation for the high energy finale involving the creatures appearing at their trapped van and launching a series of attacks there. Utilizing the amazing werewolf design in its full glory with several detailed shots of the costume while dealing in great gore effects, a thrilling storyline involving the werewolves trying to do this for the returning one who isn't capable of being a full-on werewolf, and some great resolutions that are quite surprising, there's a lot to like here. There are some minor issues to be had with this hold that do emerge. The biggest factor with this one is the setup with the belief that the area is supposedly theirs at the expense of everyone living around them. This tries to come up with the idea that the creatures are upset over the movie people who have arrived on the scene to film their movie and expose their secret but that never explains why they launched the attack on the opening couples or why they've lived in the town with the other humans this whole time as this just creates way too many sideplots in the second half so this section of the film feels quite scattered and rushed with so much going on. The other issue here is that the film has so many unrealistic and unnatural reactions or behaviors from everyone here to make the story work, from the film crew falling apart and turning on each other following the first attack with the intent of getting the film finished, the way the family snaps at each other for what they believe is the runt of the family failing to live up to their standards, or the one character who continually saves the day despite having their arm ripped off. It's all enough to lower this one somewhat.

This is a must watch for a werewolf fan. I had very little creative feedback to provide for this film. I would have removed the audio from the scene where they are all in the RV in the middle of the film to make that scene more somber. I absolutely loved how the voices changed from human to werewolf. It's exactly how I thought a werewolf would sound. I loved the small details with the film like the actor's eyes even having two photos of the same actor in the RV since they were shooting a film. Brandon Krum "Lucky Steve" is absolutely hilarious. I'm fairly certain I've seen Brandon on TMZ Live. #followthehollow.
