It's better If nobody knows this film and that's how it justifies its title.

Koi Jaane Na (2021) : Movie Review -

Koi Jaane Na is coming from the debutant director Amin Hajee so normally it wasn't expected to come out something brilliant. When the trailer released, certain things looked dull with the budget and filming but the main issue was the story. Having seen so many classic thrillers it was easy for me to guess the suspense after watching the trailer and unsurprisingly i was right. Well, i won't reveal the suspense here to spoil your party and i even believe that some chunk of audience who belong to masses and those who haven't seen hundreds of classic thrillers might even find it interesting. Koi Jaane Na lacks the quality proportions in on screen execution due to low budget and that's acceptable but an off screen part like writing falters occassionally which isn't forgivable at all.

Let's begin with the story which shouldn't be told to keep the suspense fresh but a brief idea can be told without spoilers. A fictional writer is suspected as a murderer because the techniques used for the homicides are similar to his books. The entire plot revolves around only this idea while the love story and threat of being stalked follows the young couple. Koi Jaane Na gives a lot of hints in the first half only that how and where it is gonna take you by the end and that's the biggest worry for the film. The screenplay is scattered and unauthentic according to situations and therefore finds it tough to hold your attention throughout the runtime. Somehow the predictable climax ends it on a complete note but only when it's too late.

Performances by Kunal Kapoor, Amin Hajee and Atul Kulkarni are somewhat convincing whereas Amyra Dastur finds no links between her characterisation and dialogue delivery. The supporting cast is certainly a relief as Ashwini Kalsekar, Achint Kaur, Neha Mahajan, Vidya Malavade and Raj Zutshi tries to give something over the lame writing of their characters. Musically, Koi Jaane Na is uplifted by Har Funn Maula as Aamir Khan and Elli AvrRam both sizzle in hot looks and their cracking chemistry makes the video glamourous. The other songs are above average but appears at wrong occasions. A thriller film should never include so many songs to lower down the pace.

Technical features of the film are okay okay but some are horrible such as loud background score and shaking camera which aren't used well. Director Amin Hajee seems lost from the first frame as he even fails to recognise the framework. In some scenes the frame looks dark and then the next frame is bright and suddenly it looks saturated, i mean all at the same place, same scene. What a terrible production values it has. Subsequently, the wrong set up and lacking the concrete theories takes the film even more down than what it should have been. Overall, Koi Jaane Na is an unskillful thriller which doesn't work at any single aspects of filmmaking you name whether it is acting, writting, dialogues, cinematography or direction.

Nothing interesting here

First the film has some really shoddy camera work & editing. It seems the editors were running out of time & some scenes look like amateurs doing a vblog on mobile phone.

The plot is very stereotypical & you can correctly guess the 'real killer' long before the film nears it's climax.

The acting of the most of the cast is good, however Kunal Kapoor needs to show right shades of emotions in the thriller sequence, a romantic boy expression in thriller sequence completely takes the mullah out of the scene.

There are some big holes in the story, but I would ignore for sake of 'artistic liberty'.

If you are spending sleepless night, then this is the film you are looking forward to put you to sleep.

Terrible to the next lvl

Childish, amateurish and unimaginative. I've seen better direction and writing by youtubers. This should be a lesson on how not to make a film. It's terrible to the lvl of being YUCKY.

2nd worst of the year

Well this is a debacle in toto! Didn't understand anything in the story. While watching this realised all need to pay their bills. 2nd worst because we all know whats the worst this year from Bollywood! Well if you can get through the 2+ hours without hurting coffee at the screen you have unlocked the 'Buddha' patience level!

Good but good been better.

The plot is good but I believe that the writer and the director could make it much better just by rearranging dialogues and editing some scenes.

The cast acting is fine and the songs inside the movie are good as excepted from Indian movies.

Don't bother

In theory this film could have been very good, unfortunately poor acting, poor editing, poor direction destroyed it. At times it became comical. Don't waste your time.

Watch it to know why not to watch it !!

Characterisation so lame. The plot if any , is not seen. The suspense, if it is said so, is not even a suspense. The cards are open in the first 15 minutes of the movie.

After that nothing left to watch except the running hither and thither of the characters. Well, the director is appreciated for stretching the 15 minutes movie to more than 2 hours movie. Hats off !!

A Movie With Potential

The storyline was riddled with flaws and nothing really made sense. There were more questions than answers. The concept was okay but trying to bring it to life on screen is where it fell flat.

Begins with the bouncer of a vigilante, ends with a Doosra

"Koi Jaane Na" is an alumnus get together for "Rang De Basanti", with Kunaal Kapoor leading the cast, and Aamir Khan and Atul Kulkarni appearing in cameo roles. The film begins with a promise - Kunal Kapoor plays Kabir Kapoor, an inspirational writer with one bestseller under his belt, but suffering from a writer's block that prevents him from finishing the promised sequel for which he has taken a handsome advance payment. But he doubles up as a pulp fiction author (with Zaraan Khan as the fictional mercenary) under a different name to get away from legal issues, and moonlights as a vigilante. Quite a handful for an individual, I must admit.

Whilst all this is explained in the first 20 minutes and we expect the film to go down the vigilante route like Batman or Shahenshah, Koi Jaane Na takes a somersault and hurtles down an altogether different route. It throws a Googly - Kabir starts romancing a young, Bohemian girl Suhana (Amyra Dastur) who he befriends on his journey to Panchgani to rediscover his writing skills. It's no ordinary love story - it's one peppered with a couple of murders, Zaraan Khan coming to life, mannequins and masks popping out of hidden chambers, a seductive housemaid with no oomph whatsoever, and a dubious blackmailing effort by a couple of comical characters who try their level best to appear menacing. The result is that whilst you were expecting the pace bowler to charge you with a heady fast ball, you get a Doosra - and you don't know what to do with it. It takes a strange turn where the focus shifts from Kabir and trains itself on Suhana, thus making a lot of what was essayed earlier redundant and slowly but steadily, becoming grossly predictable. The climax is aimed to be kept open ended for interpretation, but it's underwhelming and lacking the punch it deserved.

You may have heard mixed reviews of Koi Jaane Na, but the film failed to make its mark with me as I felt cheated. There are innumerable loose ends, tacky editing and poor performances galore. Roles of Vidya Malavade, Near Mahajan and Achint Kaur are extremely poorly etched out, and Kunaal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur make a lightweight couple. The only person who does some justice to the role is Ashwini Kalsekar as the investigating police officer.

A Thriller That's Hard to Thrill

I recently watched this film directed by Amin Hajee, featuring Kunal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur, and I must say, it left me quite underwhelmed. The film tries to blend elements of a psychological thriller with a murder mystery, but unfortunately, it ends up as a disjointed narrative that fails to hold interest.

Let's start with the positives; the performance were decent. The cinematography deserves a nod as well, with some sequences beautifully capturing the essence of the eerie and mysterious setting.

However, these few bright spots are overshadowed by a myriad of issues. For one, the screenplay feels stretched and convoluted. The plot takes forever to unfold, and when it does, it's more of a confusing mess than a gripping mystery. The twists and turns that are meant to shock and surprise end up being predictable or, worse, implausible. There are also too many loose ends that are never tied up, leaving the audience with more questions than answers.

The film's pacing is another significant problem. It drags in many parts, making it a tedious watch. Instead of building tension and suspense, it often feels like it's meandering aimlessly. This lack of direction could be attributed to the screenplay, which is in dire need of tightening. The dialogues, too, leave much to be desired, coming across as either overly dramatic or outright clichéd.

Moreover, there are moments where the film tries to get philosophical or delve into the psyche of its characters, but these attempts are half-baked and lack the depth required to make them compelling. As a result, it feels like the movie is trying to be more profound than it actually is.

Overall, I walked away from the film feeling somewhat dissatisfied. There was potential here; a decent cast, an intriguing premise; but the execution falls flat. It's a movie that tries to thrill but ends up being more of a test of patience than a captivating experience.

Rove

The example of this Koi Jaane Na movie is like a circulating rove that goes on a straight path but due to its bumps and buffers and pollute deteriorates the system into irregularity. The case with this movie is similar, it is so vague. Directionless. When I read the plot I was hooked to watch this but director Amin Hajee made the movie go like an endless highway without any point. I wonder his connection with Lagaan movie. The only good point in this movie was songs especially: Rab Manneya by Lakhwinder Wadali and Neeti Mohan and Vishal Dadlani's Har Funn Maula, where Aamir Khan and Swedish-Greek actress Elli Avram has shown a beautiful performance.
