      Back to the Beginning

This game takes the original formula and expands on it. Really recommendable!! One of the games that made the 7th gen so great!

The start of the current timeline trilogy in the best one in the series

I've played that game several times no use of the characters to play a complete story

      Choose your destiny!!

Less than twenty years ago I played my first Mortal Kombat game,Mortal Kombat II and it was awesome, great characters, great moves, everything was great. After that Mortal Kombat 3 arrived with more new characters and it was much faster than previous part.In effect both parts were excellent. But unfortunately since then everything goes wrong, the game is completely changed, game loses speed, almost looks like Tekken.

Finally we have Mortal Kombat 9,a game worthy of the previous parts, everything have returned to the old, characters, speed, playability and enjoyment of what we once had when we played the game, great job.

But I have some remarks on game, some characters look much better in the previous parts than new,for example Liu Kang,he looks like a girl. And many other costumes are desperate but luckily we have another option and retro costumes, but as I said some characters again look desperate. That's all I can blame, generally the game is great, totally retro,I recommend everyone to try it,really great game,I hope the next part will be the same....

Mortales Kombates for the faint of heart, housewives, and softies

This game is quite a cinematic experience, so reviewing it on IMDb is appropriate.

In our country this game has been always appreciated by those who liked fantasy fighting PC games with lots of blood and guts flying about. Remember playing the first MK and enjoying its roster and fighting moves. The present-day MK for PS3 is a present to such people.

Some minor things do spoil the enjoyment though. And they have been mentioned already in the other comments.

The biggest flaw for me here is the difficulty of the whole game. If you want to sit back and enjoy kicking butts on big screen without insane prior memorizing of the button combinations for special moves, fatalities, etc., you will have to play it on the "Beginner" level. And even then your skills will be tested intensively, because some of the foes are almost impossible to overcome. The only good news here is that the impressive "X-ray" moves can be easily performed (just 2 buttons to be pressed).

When played "UFC 3: Undisputed", used to get angry by the importance of remembering many button combinations. Well, now, after playing MK with the "Easy" setting, UFC's "Experienced" level seems to be kid-stuff. And as to something like "Fight Night 3" - that's super easy even on the hardest level if compared to the abhorrently painstaking MK controls.

As to the other flaws - they are too few and insignificant to be mentioned. But one thing should have been used in gameplay: the ability to turn on "Simulation" mode, because sometimes it gets repetitive that the fighters are moving lightning-fast even after long combos and after receiving great amounts of damage. Would like to see at least some deterioration of their movements and blows after getting X-rayed, for instance. In other words, the damage system could and should have been much better.

In every other aspect the game shines and delivers what we have been waiting for: deep as an ocean story, bloody fights, ridiculous speeches (check out Johnny Cage's ignorance and cockiness), tongue-in-cheek storytelling, reliable time-tested roster with cool fighters of different origin to choose from, and all manner of MK unlockable paraphernalia. It's the whole MK universe presented on 1 PS3 disc, which is not very expensive by the way (Borderlands' price tag exceeds it almost by 3 times here).

To sum it up: it is simply outstanding that the creators of MK for PS3 succeeded to merge PATHOS, STUPIDITY, and GORE. It's definitely for the kids but banned for them. Nonsense? No, just "Mortales Kombates"! If you are a grown-up and play such games, then you are not a reasonable person. The PS3 game box should have the following warning upon it: "Verboten!!!"

An 8 out of 10 (still have to beat the Tower challenge and, suppose, it should be ultra-ridiculous). Thanks for attention.

      "You will NEVER win!"

Sometimes I wonder if Warner really know what a goldmine they are sitting on with the Mortal Kombat franchise. This is a series that features literally dozens of characters with rich backgrounds and deep mythology. But so far all we've had are two trashy movies back in the mid-90s. With so many sequels and spin-offs the video games series has now been rebooted with this current-gen monstrosity.

The difficulty of Mortal Kombat is ridiculous. The game simply doesn't give you a chance. The rivals seem to move at twice the speed as you do, leaving you unable to do anything apart from getting pulverized. There's simply no way you have time to punch in the codes for combo moves or specials. And since every character has different codes you'd have to be an idiot savant to memorize all these. The only way I managed to finish the story mode was through trickery and chance. The collision detection is also very inconsistent, which almost caused me to turn green with rage and rip through my clothing on a few occasions. It's a very bloody game too, with brutal fatalities and 'X-ray' moves where we get to see cool shots of bones breaking and guts shredding...oh wait...I'm not an angry 15-year-old boy. Actually, these moments are kinda distasteful and desensitizing. The game certainly earns its adult rating.

There are 51 trophies featured in the game but I only managed to unlock 32% of them as the Platinum literally requires THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay. I don't want to imagine what kind of person would commit that amount of time to a video game.

Pros: Great sound effects, lots of colorful stages.

Cons: Long, long, loooooong, unskippable cut-scenes, extreme difficulty.
