Taiwanese actors Jieh-Wen King and Hsueh Shih-Ling and Indonesian actor Angga Yunanda have been cast in Lim Lungyin’s action adventure Malice, an amitious co-production between Taiwan, Czech Republic and Indonesia.
Hsueh has credits including Workers, Twisted Strings and last night he won Best Supporting Actor at Busan’s Asian Contents Awards for Disney+ series Taiwan Crime Stories. King is a veteran actor in Taiwan whose credits include Hou Hsiao-hsien’s Goodbye South, Goodbye, Lim’s Ohong Village and The Great Buddha+.

After reaching a fresh peak of 4.6 million net new customer additions in the final quarter of 2022, boosted by the FIFA World Cup soccer competition, premium subscription video growth in Southeast Asia slowed sharply in the first three months of 2023.
Research from consultancy and advisory firm Media Partners Asia and its consumer use unit Ampd, showed only 300,000 net new subscriptions between January and March in the five principal markets of Southeast Asia – Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. The study focused on premium VOD streaming and SVoD, while excluding YouTube, TikTok and other social video platforms.
Total Southeast Asia SVOD subscriptions reached 49 million in Q1, compared with 48.7 million at the end of 2022. Indonesia accounted for 43% of the regional total, by number, followed by Thailand with 30%. Thailand and the Philippines grew the most, while Indonesia lost subscribers after the World Cup.

“Stealing Raden Saleh” is a refreshing twist on the typical heist genre. Directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko, who has a successful track record with his previous film “Ben and Jody” (2021), the movie offers a new perspective on the category by placing greater emphasis on drama and character development.
“Stealing Raden Saleh” follows the story of Piko, a college student and skilled forger, who must steal a valuable painting to secure the release of his imprisoned father. Piko joins forces with a team of thieves, including a hacker, a brute, a driver, a handyman, and a negotiator, to carry out the heist at the President’s Palace. The objective is to replace the original “Arrest of Prince Diponegoro” painting by Raden Saleh with a fake one. This heist movie is full of plot twists, a staple of the genre, and keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.
