Super Hot

I had the opportunity to watch the 2021 movie "Super Hot", and without ever having heard about the movie, of course I sat down to watch it. I mean, the movie's synopsis did sound interesting enough, and like this could be an enjoyable horror comedy.

Initially the movie was listed as being a horror movie, but no, "Super Hot" is actually a horror comedy, albeit not an overly funny one, sadly.

Sure, "Super Hot" is a watchable movie and provided me with adequate enough entertainment. However, the movie's storyline just wasn't particularly outstanding, so it made for a somewhat lukewarm movie experience. But yeah, there was definitely some potential here, and for a low budget movie it wasn't actually all that shabby.

Now, what did work out in "Super Hot" was the character gallery, because they had some wonderfully quirky characters that were just very likeable and also very relatable. And the movie seemed to be made with an abundance of spirit by those involved.

I will say that the lead actress Kandace Kale really carried this movie quite well with her performance as the laid-back slacker nerd girl. And if Kandace Kale continues on in the acting business, she is definitely one that could go on to bigger and more successful things.

Visually then "Super Hot" wasn't great. And yeah, of course with it being a low budget movie, then of course that was to be expected. But hey, for a low budget movie, then "Super Hot" did alright, and it was by no means among the top worst of special effects movies.

While I managed to sit through "Super Hot", I was only mildly entertained. And since the movie's script and storyline was lacking that special ingredient to make it an outstanding and more enjoyable movie, I am rating writer and director Taylor King's 2021 movie "Super Hot" a somewhat less than mediocre four out of ten stars.

I love the main characters of the film, though they seem like they belong in a slice of life comedy show rather than a horror movie. I think the movie would have been better with more development into the villains though or at least and a few other things towards the end bother me but I would love a sequel with more of Jackie and Sam, okay mostly Jackie, Kandace Kale does good job portraying the queer, adorkable nerdy girl next door that my equally dorky but has fallen for.

Because they only listed it in the "view all reviews" instead of actually posting it...

I'm going 4 stars on this one... ( Amazon only goes to 5 )

This is clearly a B-rate / indie flick, but that said, this movie has a LOT of really good stuff going for it...

Camera work / Audio / Lighting - easily above par for indie... and actually pretty good Acting - WAY above par ( yes, some of it was cheesy, but I'm 99% sure it was intentionally cheesy... and funny... ) SFX - a little limited, but again, what they did I thought looked really good.

Plot - not really a whole lot new going on here, but it was done differently enough ( and even had a little mini-twist at the end I did not see coming ) that it easily held my attention for the duration...

Bottom line... I thought this movie was a lot of fun. It has some pretty solid quasi-dead-pan style humor, with a little bit of slapstick too... I didn't recognize any of the actors, but between how much they must have practiced, and how well the dialogue was written, they could have fooled me... I honestly don't even feel I'm being generous with giving this 4 stars ( which I sometimes do for indie flicks... ). Pretty solid recommend from me for anyone who enjoys the mix of comedy/horror... Will likely watch it again at some point in the future...

My ranking style - 1 - this movie should never have been made... I probably couldn't even finish it... 2 - this movie was bad, but I made it through to the end... can't recommend.

3 - this movie was ok... I don't feel bad watching it... will probably not watch again.

4 - this movie was solid and did a lot of things right... will very likely watch again.

5 - I need to call my friends right now...

In the realm of low budget comedy horrors, this one is slightly above average. It's watchable, the writing wasn't lazy. The acting was fine. I'd say it par is 5, it's just a little better.

I enjoyed watching this, though YMMV since it had mixed results with my group.

I enjoyed a lot of the camera work, music, dialogue, and acting. (Mostly) Fun characters, good production quality, and could have played really well as a TV show.

They have an intentionally mysterious story, and we're just bystanders looking at a small piece without any idea of the whole thing. They poke fun at that, and I thought it was neat, but this was one of the things that gave it mixed results with the group I watched with.

Cons: The lead had a very "high school goth girl, not like other girls!" vibe sometimes, which wasn't great. The vampirism thing wasn't defined enough and seemed to be complicated / have no rules, which broke the immersion.
