Josh Duhamel is on the run in the first trailer for his new movieOff the Grid. The action thriller casts the Transformers star as a genius-level Rambo-style vigilante being chased by a black ops group.

The brand new footage teases the Duhamel's character Guy is a scientist working on a generator small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, when he discovers his employers are plotting to use the technology for nefarious purposes. Guy decides he has to run away with the tech in hopes of saving lives, but an old nemesis (Greg Kinnear) is soon on his trail.

Exclusive: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Freud’s Last Session) has signed on to star in Bruno Penguin and the Staten Island Princess, the latest film from director Nick Cassavetes. Billed as the first-ever major Hollywood production to shoot in Antarctica, the film also has Shia Labeouf (Padre Pio) in talks to star and will enter production in November.

Scripted by Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman, Bruno Penguin is based on a Vanity Fair article from the latter which tells the true story of adventurous Swiss photographer Bruno Zehnder, a superb artist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Antarctica photographing Emperor penguins. He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness.

Exclusive: Tim Daly (Wings) and Veronica Ferres (Hector and the Search for Happiness) have been tapped for roles in Unholy Trinity, rounding out the ensemble for the Western helmed by Robert the Bruce‘s Richard Gray. It seems strange that an actor of Anthony Hopkins’ prestige and acclaim would need a comeback so late in his career but for a few years, the Oscar-winner was stuck in a cycle of thankless sequel paycheques and one-word thrillers where the “and” credit was starting to lose its lustre (Collide! Solace! Misconduct! Blackway!). Exclusive: Two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Armageddon Time) has boarded Rebel Moon—the sci-fi adventure film that Zack Snyder (Army of the Dead) is directing for Netflix.

Rebel Moon is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, then dispatching a young woman (Sofia Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand. Hopkins will voice Jimmy, an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.

“It’s been the great mystery in political history of the past 50 years,” said Slamdance Film Festival founder, writer and director Dan Mirvish of the eighteen-and-a-half minutes famously missing from the Nixon Tapes. His campy political thriller out this weekend takes a stab at what might have happened.

Adventure Entertainment opens 18 1/2 today on four screens in NY, LA, and Fort Lauderdale, expanding next week to about 60 including a special screening Wednesday at the Landmark Theatres E Street Cinema in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Watergate. The National Archives is screening CNN documentary series Watergate: Blueprint for a Scandal the same night at a dueling event with John Dean, who was President Richard Nixon’s counsel from July, 1970 to April, 1973. The mother of U.S. political scandals exploded in June of 1972 when five men broke into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate hotel and office complex.

The mild initial curiosity stirred by Zoom-shot movies died quickly, because so few of them were watchable, and because filmmakers quickly found workarounds to create more fluid entertainments while still observing Covid precautionary measures. Thus “Zero Contact” arrives as a novelty that’s already more than worn out its welcome, aiming for dubious additional distinction as “the world’s first star-powered feature film Nft.” (It was released in that form last September — whether anyone actually purchased it as such is unknown.)

We’ll just gingerly step around that factoid, as the aptly named “Zero Contact” has plenty of more tangible ways in which it is a steaming pile of nada. Producer turned first-time director Rick Dugdale and screenwriter Cam Cannon’s would-be thriller has five globally-scattered protagonists yelling at their screens during a conference call in which the fate of all humanity supposedly hangs in the balance from some murky high-tech threat.

Zero Contact stars Chris Brochu (“The Vampire Diaries”), Aleks Paunovic (“Snowpiercer”) and Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs). The film marks the directorial debut of Rick Dugdale, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Cam Cannon (Deadlock).

Upon his death, five remote agents — including his son — are contacted by a mysterious A.I. entity to reactivate the initiative, which may enable time travel. Years in the making, Kevin Smith’s next film is finally getting released, but only a select few will get a chance to see it. The comedy-horror anthology “KillRoy Was Here” will be available exclusively via 5,555 NFTs.

The “KillRoy” NFTs will be available sometime in the next three months on the Legendao platform. They’ll include the movie, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, a commentary track, and exclusive art. Viewing access to the film will be unavailable to anyone else without the special “crypto key” the Nft provides.

At this time, this is the only planned distribution method for the film — Smith fans shouldn’t count on being able to catch it in a theater or on streaming.

Exclusive: Two-time Oscar winning four-time BAFTA Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins has signed with CAA.

Hopkins, who received a Best Actor Academy Award last year for his performance in Florian Zeller’s The Father, re-teams with Zeller in the upcoming feature The Son for Sony Pictures Classics. He will also be seen in James Gray’s Armageddon Time for Focus Features and Zero Contact, which is set for release by Lionsgate’s Grindstone Entertainment.

Hopkins’ expansive body of work spans more than 60 years and includes such films as Silence of the Lambs which won him his first Oscar for playing the iconic Hannibal Lecter, Nixon, Amistad, Remains of the Day, All The King’s Men, Thor and The Two Popes.

He continues to be represented by attorney Mitch Smelkinson. He was previously repped by UTA.

Exclusive: Producer and award-winning actress Veronica Ferres has signed with CAA and Fourward. Both entities will also represent Ferres’ film and TV production company, Construction Film, which she founded in 2013 as a female led label, and is dually based in Munich and Los Angeles.

The German-born Ferres can currently be seen opposite Anthony Hopkins in Zero Contact, the first feature film Nft, and has completed filming Paradise Highway opposite Morgan Freeman and Juliette Binoche for Lionsgate. Through her Construction Film banner, Ferres produced, alongside Sandra Bullock and Graham King, The Unforgivable, which stars Bullock and Viola Davis and premieres with a theatrical release in the US on November 24 and internationally on Netflix December 10.

In addition to the trailer (watch it above), Vuele said it will premiere the film, which follows Hopkins’ Oscar win last spring for The Father, via several Nft “drops” beginning September 24. The tagline of the trailer describes Zero Contact as “the world’s first feature film Nft event,” though the space has drawn a crush of interest from a range of film and entertainment players lately.

Zero Contact, the Anthony Hopkins film shot last year as a virtual production under the title 92, has become the first feature film acquisition for Vuele, a recently launched viewing and distribution platform for non-fungible tokens.

The film will premiere as a non-fungible token, or Nft, on the global platform, which launched last month as a joint venture between Enderby Entertainment, US-based producer of Zero Contact, and financial technology company CurrencyWorks.
