It was a nice and new concept movie and i really liked it . I do also keep myself house arrest in weekend . Loved the story.
Ali fazal was too cute to watch. Didn't expect to like this movie but actually did. Was smiling in the end and also laughed. Acting was spot on.
It's refreshing to see dry humor, minimalism and a different pace of storytelling in Indian cinema. Ali Fazal really embodied the corky, awkward, smart and cute recluse with all the nuances added to his acting - makes one feel like, they know this guy. The plot may have been predictable but the thing to look out for here is subtle wittiness in the dialogues, something many will relate to- more real and less filmy. We are so used to over-dramatization these days that this day-in-a-life-of-a-solitary-young-man sort of thing is not fully appreciated by our constant excitement seeking palates.
Also, while the movie carries the romcom light vibe, there is an underlying statement which runs strong- a narrative of our collective frustration with modern life, ambition, competition and the drastic measures one feels like taking to feel more sane, to come back to true self through solitude...also the irony of it all.
I did think it could have been a little shorter but other than that, if you are looking for something different, with good breathing space and food-for-thought about your own pace of life, this can surely be your cup of tea.
Don't even look at the negative reviews if you like movies with some aesthetic element.
I don't understand any of these negative reviews tagging this movie "Garbage" lol. These are the people who admire movies like Race 3 and all, the typical Bollywood cliched over exaggerated dramatic crap.
Yeah, this movie might look slow and dull to some of us, which indeed actually might be the case but I think that's the beauty of the film. MINIMALISM.
This movie presented nothing new except for this term, "Hikikomori" which personally I was already aware of because of this anime series on this guy who was a Hikikomori I watched. (Welcome to the NHK is the name). BUT the way it was presented makes it beautiful. Not anyone can present a simple script with this beauty. AND The concept, this whole House Arrest thing wasn't new either. BUT for a lot of us in India, this was new. AND the people who are commenting negative stuff are the ones who cannot "tolerate" the "beauty" of concepts like this. They are like, "There's nothing good about the movie except for the house... Why the hell is everything shot in one house.. and bla bla bla." Like seriously? Can people be this dumb to not understand the purity of a film?
Yeah it lacked comedy somewhere between the beginning and the middle. But the closure being beautiful made me forget everything else. Yeah it was cliched (or maybe predictable at places), but the way it was presented wasn't.
I'd have given it 9/10 or even 8/10, but I'd rather give it a 10 for the ATTEMPT. Such movies should be made to get people out of their COMFORT DRAMATIC movie zone.
Also, the cinematography was beautiful. (Won't spoil it for you but some shots and the methods used to portray them were really beautiful) Acting: 10/10. Ali did justice to his role, and Shriya was absolutely fantastic too. Barkha and the two other artist were the only comical/ funky characters in the film trying to establish a comedy angle, which indeed was kinda weird but it was not just digestible but even admirable at places.
The romance was so beautifully shot and portrayed. Comedy should have been a lot better but then again maybe it would have made the movie lose the simplicity it has now.
So, like I said, full points for the effort!

- QuizEven though the premise of this movie is known in Japan as hikikomari, a condition that is common & increasing, the movie does very little to explain or explore the condition. Hikikomari is self-imposed by young adults behaving like hermits and is similar to agoraphobia, often a symptom of PTSD. The movie uses the condition to humorously examine possible situations that a hermit-like person might encounter in today's world. They purposely avoid exploration of the actual condition because it's generally not at all humorous to sufferers, but can be managed with cognitive behavior therapy or by using a Service Dog as a partner.
