The Advocates

I remember seeing this show on TV as a teenager and being fascinated with it. No one else seemed to be watching it or talking about it, but all these decades later I still recall this program as being one of the best civics, critical thinking, political, non-partisan programs I've ever seen.

We need shows like this today more than ever, yet no one seems to care or even remember this program.

I class this with some other shows that are civil discussions of difficult political issues through the years, such as "The Phil Donahue Show", "Firing Line", "BBC Question Time, and "The Advocates".

I learned so much and more I learned to think critically, and I also learned that when Ronald Reagan got rid of the "Fairness Doctrine" it was a signal that all TV news and information shows became almost totally useless because they all burrowed into their own little silos with their own little, or big, audiences.

It is a crime and a shame that we do not have this show front and center for the American people who are now rudderless and powerless because they do not understand what is going on or how to respond to it.

"The Advocates" was brilliant TV and this show and many more like it are the only thing that can save our society from becoming hopelessly fragmented and hostile. I miss it.
