“The Waterfront,” the first Netflix original from “Vampire Diaries” and “Scream” producer Kevin Williamson, follows the efforts of the Buckley family to preserve their business legacy in a small beach town of North Carolina, which involves diving head-first into the drug smuggling business. As the family grapples with stepping into criminal activity, the tension also incentivizes complicated dynamics, from father and son to siblings and romantic entanglements.

Plot details are vague, but sources say the film will follow one of Tarantino’s most iconic characters as he serves as a Hollywood fixer in a follow-up to Pitt’s Oscar-winning turn in One Upon a Time in Hollywood. It is unknown who Gugino will be playing in the new film, which is expected to begin production later this year.

Per Deadline, actor Scott Foley (The Girls on the Bus) has joined the cast of Scream 7. No details have yet been revealed about his character and how he will play into the plot, but it's certainly worth noting that Foley previously appeared in a major role in 2000's Scream 3. In that film, Foley played filmmaker Roman Bridger, a half-brother of Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott who was revealed in the end to be the Ghostface killer.

Details regarding his character and the film’s plot are currently under wraps. However, Foley is already part of the Scream universe having portrayed antagonist Roman Bridger, the film director and half-brother of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) who was revealed to be the Ghostface Killer of Scream 3.

Foley’s casting comes with its own set of questions because Roman was killed by Dewey (David Arquette) at Sidney’s request. Roman has faked his own death before so it’s plausible that he could reprise the role in the present or perhaps in flashback form in the past if he is deceased. Could Roman have a long-lost twin? This is Scream after all, so if he returns as a ghost (face killer?) or a zombie, it would not shock most.

Filming for Scream 7 got underway earlier this month, and casting news continues to trickle in. Most recently, Deadline confirmed that morning talk show host Mark Consuelos has joined, although details regarding his character are being kept under wraps.

But that hasn't stopped rumors and speculation from circulating online. The rumor mill is ever-churning, saying that Consuelos might be playing a character devised as a rival to Gale Weathers. Note that this rumor stems from unverified sources on social media and is, so far, completely unsubstantiated. Now that 2024 has come to a close, it’s official, Netflix once again handed out the most cancellations in the calendar year – though at this point, I don’t think anyone will find this surprising. While the streaming platform has gotten better as the years have gone by in giving shows final seasons and the chances to establish themselves with audiences, the streaming platform continues to have some of the biggest cancellation rates in the business and 2024 was no different.

In total, Netflix canceled 16 shows in 2024 while also handing six additional shows their walking papers with final season orders which are about as close to cancellations as you can get the only difference being that those lucky six shows will get to actually wrap up their runs with proper sendoffs. So when you combine the two groups, Netflix decided to end a whopping 22 shows in 2024 be it by canceling them directly or ordering final seasons.

Penn Badgley will return for one final season as serial killer Joe Goldberg in You season five, which just released two teaser posters. The two-part fourth season premiered in 2023, and Netflix confirmed the fifth and final season will premiere in 2025 after initially targeting a 2024 release.

“Every season they manage to find new space to make it interesting and relevant,” said Penn Badgley in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “And this season, I think somehow coming back to where it started allowed for it to just become grounded in the way that it needs to also have this kind of spectacular finish.”

There's so many new shows that come our way every year. And while you do get comfortable with the series' that you become a fan of, it's never wrong to tune into something new. Many times, the trailers for a show will look intriguing, but then when the season is here it's a disappointment. HBO and Max had a few examples of that this year. Here's 4 HBO and Max shows from 2024 that let us down.

The Girls on the Bus

Despite its stellar cast, unfortunately that wasn't enough to keep our interest when it comes to The Girls on the Bus on Max. Frankly, the show was boring even though it did seem like an interesting premise with four female journalists on the presidential campaign trail. Of course each of them is also dealing with personal conflicts. Though overall, they weren't interesting enough to keep us invested in the story.

Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood, the real-life acting couple who previously co-starred in Supergirl, are set to share the screen once again. This time, they'll be doing so on broadcast television.

Per Deadline, it's been reported that Benoist and Wood will co-star in Duo, a drama series in development at NBC. The series is co-written by Wood while Rina Mimoun (Mistresses) will serve as showrunner. The project comes from Warner Bros. Television as part of an overall deal with Benoist's Three Things Productions banner; Mimoun also has an overall deal with the company. The series is said to have gotten a script commitment at this stage of its development. Mimoun and Benoist are executive producing while Wood will co-exec produce.

As we move closer to the end of 2024, now is the perfect time to look back at some of the worst shows of the year. It has been a fruitful year for TV watchers, particularly those who prefer to stream their series. We’ve seen an interesting mix of new shows and the anticipated return of old favorites. Still, this doesn’t mean they have all been winners.

Before we share which shows have been the most disappointing, let’s give recognition to some of the many series we’ve enjoyed the most. At the top of my list, I have Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, Prime Video’s Fallout, and Hulu’s The Bear season 3. Variety has learned that Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Rafael L. Silva, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, and Brady Hepner have all been cast as series regulars.

Additionally, Michael Gaston and Gerardo Celasco will appear as recurring guest stars, while Zach Roerig will guest star.

Medically accurate storylines about abortion can help educate and inform viewers “across all political leanings,” according to a new study from USC Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center and Uc San Francisco’s Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health program.

In their paper “Abortion Depictions on Television: Impact on Audience Knowledge and Mobilization,” researchers surveyed 1,016 adult television viewers of three television episodes with depictions of the procedure that were deemed to be medically sound. The viewers of these storylines were tested for their knowledge of abortion and their interest in taking action after watching the 2022 A Million Little Things episode “Fresh Start,” the 2022 Better Things episode “No, I’m Not Gonna Tell Her” or the 2022 Station 19 episode “The Little Things You Do Together.”

Viewers who were casual, even occasional watchers of the series and did not recall the specific abortion episodes in question were surveyed alongside those who did remember the content of the specific storylines.

Netflix is in the process of adapting “The Picture of Dorian Gray” into a modern TV series, TheWrap has learned.

The show, titled “The Grays,” will be produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with “The Girls on the Bus” showrunner and EP Rina Mimoun serving as showrunner and executive producer, according to an individual with knowledge. Katie Rose Rogers will write the series.

As the team modernizes the Oscar Wilde novel, the series will center on siblings Basil and Dorian Gray as “The Grays” tackles the classic’s themes through the eyes of the modern beauty industry, according to Deadline, who first reported the news.

Representatives for Warner Bros. Television and Netflix declined to comment.

Mimoun and Rogers will executive produce the series alongside Rogers’ brother, Robbie Rogers, with whom she worked on “Fellow Travelers” and who has served as a producer on “All American” and an EP on “All American: Homecoming.
