Good and cringe

It is a good take on the old Norse legends. The writer has done the homework and found a way to make it their own. It's fun to see them bring in concepts like holmgång.

The voice acting is good. The animation is a bit lackluster for this day and age, but it works well with its simplicity.

The show struggles at the border of edgy and cringe, often stumbling into the latter. This could have been a lot better if someone had reeled in whatever writer came up with stuff that sounds like it was written by a struggling teenager. I can't imagine that that it was easy to read by the voice actors.

If you like sword and sorcery stuff and old myths, do watch this, but bring your "skämskudde" (Don't know what it's called in English, but it's Swedish for a pillow you keep at your couch to hide your head in when a show is so uncomfortable you want to sink into the ground)

Generic vengeance tale

I said it with rebel moon, i say it again : Zach Snyder is great film maker, but not a good writer. Its always so generic. You see coming the cliche line a mile away. Dialogs are stale. Characters are the same version of an old one in different setup.

Its rebel moon all over again : A bunch of warriors take on an almighty force on a typical vengeance quest. The art style is great, combats are great, the production value is high... but they it all lack the spark to make it good.

Blue eye samurai did it. A vengeance tale done right. Provocative, not for the sake of it, but to tell something meaningful trough real imagery, sometime crude. It was necessary. A sex scene was a pivotal moment in this character development.

Here, there is blood and sex just to add shock value and say : this show is gore, see? It lack the maturity to justify it.

Mr Snyder need to stick to direction, and let the writers do their things.

Thank God, Zack Snyder found himself a good writer!

How come somebody who's just got booted out of comic movie production because of excessiveness, able to produce something more lore accurate than its famous, comic character's counterpart? Twilight of the Gods, it's the middle finger response from Zack Snyder to the superhero movie industry in general! I've learned so much more about Thor & friends in this, than any other high-end media today.

It's cool to hate him nowadays. And sure, i can agree that Rebel Moon it's a passionate garbage. But it doesn't muddled the fact, that nobody can do mythology like Zack Snyder! Its raw, faithful and heroic! They've taken the Nordic legends and doing everything right to justify it place in our modern eyes. And i can also confidently say that this series has one of the most beautiful animation this year!

Some problems i had with it, is that sometimes it can be pretty formulaic. Stuff goes way too fast, it makes the massive scope feels smaller. Also some of the middle episodes feels like an unnecessary side missions. But it's a normal price to pay when you comprising such a huge mythology into sizable bites!

Needless to say, I finish this in one sitting.

Bloody, Brutal & Amazing

It's a brilliant take on Norse Mythology & pretty accurate to the lore. Thor is unforgivably brutal & Loki is cunning & brilliantly portrayed. The animation style is fresh & the best I've seen so far. 'Xilam Animations' behind Oggy and the Cockroaches created a new style of 2D animation & it looks clean & beautiful. The world is immersive & gorgeous. The characters & the story are fun & compelling. Voice acting is on point. The character of Sigrid, Leif, Thor & Loki are given enough depth. Every other side characters shine through the journey. Although 4 different directors were involved in the show, the pacing of the story is consistently good. Eric Carrasco's writing is a winner. The narrative is intricate and complicated. Can't wait for the season 2 & bring on more God fighting.

So Far So Good

This was a blind watch for me and I enjoyed it a lot. I feel like a lot of people are going to have a problem with seeing Thor as anything but a hero.. because of the MCU portrayal but I'm okay with seeing another side and things and a story told in a different way with a different version of the character.

I enjoyed the pilot, so I'm going to see how it develops. Knew absolutely nothing going in, so the sexiness and the gore did catch me off guard. But then I have to remember it's Zack Snyder were talking about. Will continue to watch. I hope it continues to impress me , overall visually pleasing.

Zac Snyder Redeems Himself

It's hard to believe that someone who made the atrocious "Rebel Moon" also had a hand in making this very watchable animated series.

I suppose having equal inputs from Jay Oliva and Eric Carrasco - two experienced and skilled story-boarder and screen-writer - made all the difference.

Zac Snider unguided or assisted by lesser talents gets us really bad movies. The only exception is "Sucker Punch" - that movie could have been really bad, but somehow worked.

"Twilight of the Gods" is not in the same league as with "Blue Eye Samurai" and it plays fast and loose with Norse mythology. But it's an interesting version of Ragnarok.

Artistic Gorefest

We enter a take on Norse mythology that is visually inspired by comicbook art, alluding to Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen. There is no pretense: this is an adult animated series, with sexuality and gore being handed together in the same package. The animation, by Stone Quarry and Xilam, is truly a feast for the eyes.

This is yet another series where the Aesir are portrayed as evil, which is amusing given its release after the God of War Norse Cycle and Black Myth Wukong. I suppose this could be seen as a "goðlauss " type of story, but at least there is enough nuance to this.

Overall a strong recommendation.

Some of us, just can't relate to this

Twilight of the Gods presents an intriguing concept with its roots in Norse mythology, but as the series progresses, certain critical elements fall flat, leaving the viewer wanting more substance. One of the most apparent shortcomings is the execution of the revenge plot, which, instead of igniting tension and drama, feels misplaced and rushed. The protagonist's quest for vengeance seems less driven by genuine motivation and more like a half-baked reaction to circumstances. There's no deep emotional build-up or arc that makes this journey satisfying, leaving the character's mission to feel more like a reckless impulse than a calculated pursuit of justice.

From the start, it's evident that the protagonist is not fully equipped for the challenges that lie ahead. There's a lack of development in the protagonist's character that would suggest preparedness for the monumental task at hand. The stakes of the narrative-especially in a mythological setting where gods and fate intertwine-require a hero whose resolve and growth are visible on screen. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen here. The protagonist stumbles through the plot, lacking the gravitas needed to engage viewers who are expecting something more profound.

Perhaps one of the most disappointing aspects of Twilight of the Gods is its heavy reliance on sexual encounters to drive the narrative forward. While sex as a narrative tool can be powerful when done with nuance and meaning, in this case, it feels superficial and thrown in for shock value. The sexual content often detracts from what could have been a compelling revenge arc, watering down the emotional intensity that should have been the series' heart. Instead of building meaningful relationships or exploring the protagonist's inner struggles, the show leans into moments that feel forced and disconnected from the larger narrative. It's not that sex has no place in storytelling, but here it fails to serve a purpose beyond mere physicality.

Moreover, the emotional resonance that one might expect from a story rooted in such epic traditions is almost entirely absent. The show sets up an exciting premise-the fall of the gods, a world-ending prophecy, and a protagonist with revenge on their mind-but it rarely delivers on the emotional weight these elements carry. Without strong character development or an inspiring narrative, it becomes difficult to connect with the protagonist or care about the consequences of their journey.

The lack of connection also impacts the pacing. As the episodes unfold, there's little to keep you invested. The protagonist's decisions feel disconnected from any real growth or learning process, which makes it challenging to root for them or believe in their cause. The viewer is left with a series that feels more like a sequence of loosely tied events rather than a cohesive story arc.

At the end of the day, Twilight of the Gods is not necessarily a failure, but it lacks the hooks to make it truly memorable. The revenge plot, though central, is shallow. The protagonist feels more like a pawn moving through the story rather than someone with agency or determination. The use of sex feels exploitative rather than narrative-driven, and the emotional depth that could have lifted the series falls short. For a series with such a rich mythological backdrop, it misses the chance to make its mark. While some viewers may still find moments of intrigue, it's likely to leave others feeling unsatisfied and disconnected from the journey.

In the end, while Twilight of the Gods has some interesting elements, it never quite comes together in a way that feels compelling or meaningful. If you're expecting an epic filled with deep character exploration and emotional stakes, this series might not meet your expectations.

I could NOT stop watching!

I knew going in that this was going to be pretty good so I figured I'd watch a couple of episodes before bed. Next thing I know, it's 3am and I'm finally at the end. I did NOT expect it to be as good as it was, obviously!

The animation is awesome and suits the tone of the story perfectly; it has blood and gore and violence and sex and gore and more gore! What more can you ask for?

Oh yeah, you can ask for a good cast. Well...that's not this cast. This cast is INCREDIBLE. Sylvia Hoeks does a fantastic job as Sylvia, our main lead, as does Stuart Martin as Leif - Sylvia's lover and almost-husband but for the interruption of Pilou Asbæk's Thor (he does an awesome job as a slightly-unhinged Lord of Storms here). Joining them on Sigrid's quest for vengeance over the murders of her entire family are Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as Hervor - Sigrid's shield-sister, the iconic Rahul Kohli as Leif's thrall Egill, the goddess that is Jamie Clayton as The Seid-Kona - a witch-woman, and Peter Stormare as Ulfr - The Seid-Kona's wolf-hide-dressed pet (for lack of a better word). They're soon joined by Andvari (Kristofer Hivju) - a dwarf smith - and eventually by Thyra (Thea Sofie Loch Næss) - a human archer loyal to the Vanir. All this aided by Loki (Paterson Joseph) for his own ends, of course. Then there's the supporting cast, including the likes of John Noble, Corey Stoll, Lauren Cohan, Tove Lo, Jessica Henwick, and Jamie Chung...

The story itself is great, too. Wedding Interruptus + Family Murdered = vengeance quest with a slight Ragnarok feel due to the attempted deicide of Thor, and they do a decent job of making us care about these characters in the relatively limited time they have, what with having all the violence and gore and sex sprinkled throughout.

I REALLY hope we get a second season of this, now!

Lame & Unnecessarily Sexual

Good idea with very bad execution. Predictable and shallow, has a very amazon feel to it (cheap). The graphics are good, but the whole series feels like this thing was released for the sake of releasing something. It is lacking in dialog, charter development and it is unnecessarily sexual with. I "love" the fake-ass accents. The only reason I am giving it two stars and not the minimum is because the animation is good and the scandinavian mythology is of interest. More effort should have been put in the script, cause at this state it is just diarrhea . It is unbelievable how this show could get a score higher than 4.

Zack Snyder's Savage Take On Norse Mythology

Alright, so Twilight of the Gods is Zack Snyder doing his thing, but animated-and it's absolutely fire. It's all Norse mythology, with massive battles, top-tier visuals, and of course, Snyder's classic slow-mo. If you've played God of War, this is giving that vibe, but way, way more intense and over the top.

The gods are not even the good guys, which honestly makes it hell of alot better. They're brutal, kinda savage, and the whole thing is dark but keeps you glued. Gore and violence and at the top of everything but the story is not shy of mixing sexual themes whatsoever.

The animation is absolutely class and it really stands out for it's comic inspired look. It somewhat carries the essence of other Zack Snyder Projects such as 300 and Man Of Steel.

The characters are deeply compelling and I was pretty emotionally invested in them. The story keeps you hooked with character arcs and their relationships.

This series is an absolute must watch!

Not bad, just didn't impress me

My main gripe is that almost all characters don't feel fun or intriguing, which especially hurts a show where it's about a team killing gods. Instead the characters are archetypes we've seen many times before, without doing anything new. Plus backstories are there, but lack emotion and/or aren't explored properly, again without anything unique. The relations between the mentioned team are also not explored that well, making big events feel unimpactful as the team doesn't feel as tight as the show tells you.

I will admit the 2 main characters have a pretty good arc though, be it also a bit formulaic at times.

The gods also feel pretty bland to me, be they probably the most fun category of characters overall. The 'gods are the bad guys' is done quite a bit these days, and it can still work, but this show still lacks the nuance something like God of War has for these characters. Thors motivations are told but I don't see how his actions connect to it, where other gods can be in the show so little the depth they get feels unimpactful and rushed (I don't even care that much about the character).

Mythological events can also feel like a checkbox being crossed off, rather than fun, unique takes on the myths. It also feels like they're not properly paced or built up, making it feel like you need to have knowledge about mythology (saying that as someone who does have that knowledge). Loki's motivation is one of the interesting takes though, and there's mainly a good bit of good god designs and power portrayals too.

All-in-all it's still a very watchable show, but for me it wasn't as fun or investing of a journey I'd hoped. For those interested or learning mythology, it can particularly be more enjoyable if you like doing some research afterwards.

GODS AND ZACK SNYDER ARE THE PERFECT DUO

This is how you represent Gods on screen.

The plot is harsh as it should be cause Gods weren't all fun and jokes.

The characters are legendarily interesting and you have the constant feeling of want to know them even better.

Emotionally you can't stop yourself in getting invested.

The colours are vibrant and the animation looks clear and really expressive.

Visually great and that is honestly what you expect in a serie about epic Gods.

Zack Snyder showed once again the sensitiveness, seriousness and the epicness he uses to narrate the stories of Gods.

There is a deep care and great respect as well as a declared and faithful love.

Too short for a good story when it comes to Zack!

High-flown, pompous, and pretentious nonsense, as usual with Zack Snyder... How many times I would fall into the same trap... He tries to show you nice picture and then just stop there, pretending that this picture is everything you've wanted. Because behind those still images there is nothing more. Too sad, as usual... Like, why the hell would you need 3-4-5 hours of my time to still not be able to tell the complete and interesting story??? How much time you need then, like 10 hours or 20? That's ridiculous!

And all those slow motion stuff, it's not helping, just even more annoying, as well as it was in Rebel moon... Thanks but no thanks, not anymore!

Pretty damn good !!!!

"I just finished the first season and was surprised it didn't wrap up the story. Now I have to wait for season two, which might take a while.

I was skeptical at first because it was directed by Zack Snyder and I wasn't initially impressed by the animation. I'm a fan of quality animated series, and it's tough to find good ones. There are countless anime out there, and many of them are just average. While this isn't an anime, I didn't have high expectations when I started watching.

However, it quickly drew me in, and I binged the entire season in one night. It left me wanting more.

It's unfair to rate a show low just because you don't like the animation style. If you don't enjoy the visuals, you shouldn't watch it. The rating should be based on the story and entertainment value, and this show is definitely very entertaining."

Kick áss, correctly pronounce Nordic names

There's something refreshingly unpretentious about Zack Snyder's most recent output. His Rebel Moon director's cuts -- which, I remind you, constitute Snyder at his most untrammeled, ergo this is who and what he truly is -- were so preoccupied with gore, tits, and "cool" slo-mo action that not even Snyder's most zealous votaries, e.g. Armond White, could bring themselves to construe the films as deep statements on religion and mythology. Twilight of the Gods, meanwhile, advertises nothing more or less than "blood, sex, and dragons" (actual trailer tagline), and who's to say that this is a bad thing?

Here is an animated Viking show that's so raw and violent that it rivals Tartakovsky's Primal. (Speaking of whom, why can't we get fanboy movements and hashtags about his vaulted animation Fixed?) It's not as investing as that show but offers some creatively choreographed battles and satisfying gore. My favorite thing about the show would have to be the casting, prioritizing Icelandic actors, Norwegian actors, Swedish actors, and whoever else actually knows how the various Nordic words/names are supposed to be pronounced (this is most noticeable with Thea Sofie Loch Naess, who almost seems to shift from English to Norwegian for certain phrases) along with the myth-accurate ferocity of the Pagan gods that, largely thanks to Marvel, we've all but forgotten.

The characters themselves range from decent to unremarkable, but figures like Sigrid and Loki stick out as sweet-yet-threatening and funny-yet-creepy, respectively. Occasionally, Snyder still displays a "show, don't tell" problem, but that which is shown is sufficiently gorgeous -- Twilight of the Gods is certainly better-looking than the Rebel Moon pictures -- and, sure, that which is told is delivered with some pretty good voice acting.

Still, the main strength here is the imagery, both in terms of áss-kicking gore (yes, I spelled that right) and mythological figures. 2D animation is where it's at, folks; 'tis the format that lets you do more even if you have less money.

Truly amazing!

Speaking as someone who has found most of Snyders catalogue over the past decade to be mediocre, this was an incredible change of pace. The animation was fantastic but most importantly the reverance paid to the feel of the Norse Edda paired with a tremendous story made for one hell of a ride. I mean finally at last a Zack banger, Netflix should invest more in Zack animated , I hope they continue with army of the dead lost city animated and really hope they give him the gear of war animated show and the live action movie , he is the masterpiece of visual art plus in the directing side . Please Netflix we need more.

Nothing special about this

Some xxx scenes where unnecessary, thought I was watching ornography at some point, totally bizarre tbh, some fight scenes were cool and gore, some characters that I thought were gonna be alive the whole time end up dying out of nowhere super RANDOM lol the scene at the end with the most famous man in this earth left me wondering what it meant... I also that those scenes were super random... the female character was kinda lame she was boring tbh, and her to be husband was also really lame character, the only good thing about this is the artwork that's about it and some fighting scenes but other than that this is nothing special and I won't be looking forward to keep my netflix account to watch this crap.

Loved it, even with all the penises

Not since Game of Thrones have I been faced with so many *cough* flaccid, erect or droopy penises up front. Sex scenes good (both male, female and threesomes) but not yet to the unrivaled sex scene from Castlevania with Alucard.

Animation is good but feels like you're playing a game sometimes.

Plot is good and true to all the different norse mythology stories about Thor (who is a blundering idiot) and Loki who has fathered many children.

They've made Freja .. mmm .. less Norse looking but I can live with that.

Violence and gore was 10/10 so I'm on board with another season.

The only reason I took a star off was the spitting (so much spitting) and in your face penises and triangles of muff :))

Can't wait for season 2.
