We Hunt Together

To the reviewer who says if your acquainted with British series you won't like this pfft. I watch mainly all UK series and watched 2 episodes last night ( that's all I could get) and thought it was pretty good. I watched 1 episode of whitechapl ater and fell asleep. Also it took me forever to go back to Broadchurch after 2 episodes and boy was I glad I did. it's only few episodes in and I go agree they gave it all away right away so hopefully there' some twist in it all but I'll definitely continue and was upset I could only watch 2 episodes.

The main reason I watched the series in addition to the rave reviews was Eve Myles. I absolutely loved her in Torchwood and the Apple TV+ series Hijack. However, after seeing this series, a new star is on my radar, the lovely Hermione Corfield who plays "Freddie", a beautiful, sexy, alluring, manipulative sociopath. And I loved every scene she was in. But that's not what makes this series superb, this show is the total package. It has everything, murder, love, sex, secrets, twists, psychological manipulation, and so much more.

First we have two police officers who are paired together to work a murder case. He, an African immigrant played by the wonderful Babou Ceesay. He is the DI, and is in charge of the investigation despite the fact it's his first day in homocide. He had worked in the Anti-Corruption unit (Internal Affairs). His partner, played by Myles is a sargent and a seasoned murder investigator. It's like mixing oil and water. He is an intelectual type, she is old school, hard nosed murder police. The sparks fly, but they aren't mean mostly funny. On the other side we have another African immigrant who is called "Baba" who has secrets and lives a tormented life because of his past, played by Dipo Ola. He meets Freddie one night and his life is never the same.

So, we have a murder mystery but there's more than the eye can see. Everybody has secrets, and I mean everybody.

All I can say is this is one of the best shows I've seen in a while. I came across it looking for something decent to watch. I have nearly every network out there, from Amazon to whatever starts with a Z and the choices are limited. This show is a winner. There is one reason I didn't give it 10 stars, despite the freshness of this series, they did do one thing I was so disappointed with. They fell into the formulactic trap by having these two detectives working their behinds off trying to solve murders and the "Suit" or boss is screaming at them to "LET IT GO!!IT'S OVER!!!" There's always some pencil neck boss sitting in the office telling our detectives to drop the case, it's over when we all know it isn't. Other than that silly part, this is a great show.

Brits love their police procedurals even more than Americans and this one is certainly top-notch entertainment.

The entire cast is fantastic and I really love to hate the rude, dysfunctional Lola, while liking and sympathizing with the engaging Jackson who, despite his upbeat manner, keeps getting knocked down. No good deed goes unpunished with Jackson. And DSI boss-woman Susan Smart is hilarious as the person most likely to close a case before the real killer is found.

Freddie is forever facinating and the emerging killer from season 2 is mesmerizing and brillant. I hope to see more of him!

Fingers crossed that this great, contemporary cat and mouse game will be renewed for season 3 and beyond.

To date, there have been two seasons released of this series. They have left it open for another season, but there is no word yet. (Open, but not a cliffhanger.) The acting is superb. Eve Myles playing cranky against Babou Ceesay's perpetual optimism makes a great investigative pairing, while Hermione Corfield's performed psychopathy and Dipo Ola's convincing search for redemption shifts our moral compass. There is a dark lightness at play here, that, at first, I found dissonant, but soon became an integral rhythm of the story. The cast is wonderful, the story is darkly captivating, the series is compelling, I give this series an 8 (compelling) out of 10, {Crime Drama}

A fantastic cast of very strong performers cannot salvage the heavy-handed script. There's a constant feeling of "where have I heard this before" as the dialogue advances and reveals itself as formulaic and disappointingly contrived.

The premise of a murderous duo, who also seem to be survivors with unusual backstories seems like a winner, except the creators drop too many emotional and moralistic breadcrumbs. More disappointing, the baddies are bad from a distance, so the against-type characterization is only applied to the killers.

The law enforcement are pretty by-the-book "chalk and cheese" who will discover how much they need each other as the series unspools.

This is head above much of the competition, but seems intent on tripping itself up in the strangest ways. Worth watching if there's nothing else around.
