Was not having expectations whatsoever from the movie as I was knowing the magic of Govinda-David Dhawan cannot be created again. However, I liked Varun in Judwa remake somewhat. Decided to watch this movie but now regretting.
This is the remake of 1995 hit Coolie No 1 but fails to entertain as much as the original movie does, even now.
David dhawan sticks to the original story but many changes can be seen in the movie. Obviously this movie has been shot in 2020 so the set looks more modern and vivid but it misses the touch of old hit.
Speaking of the performances, none of the actors seem to be entertaining the audience. Govinda's charisma and performance was misseed sorely throughout the movie. Varun comic timing in this movie is the worst. I have seen Varun's performance and he is a good actor but here he falls flat.
Kadar Khan's character was the soul of the movie apart from govinda's character. Here Paresh Rawal tries but he fails in delivering a memorable role. He is a great actor no doubt but he fails here big time.
Sara Ali Khan doesn't impressed me a bit.
This film should not have been made in the first place. No need for a remake if you can't offer something new to the audience. Moreover you are insulting the old classic and here, the old classic is made by you, David Dhawan.
Sad and totally disappointing end to the year.

Love this movie Varun Dhawan and David Dhawan Many more movies I want from you guys like this. Storyline acting and comedy actions I like it and I love it david Dhawan movies are always awesome in hindi. Songs are awesome and dance set perfectly. Marathi language roles are awesome varun Dhawan love you every minutes used. Double roles acting was awesome . Js Allan khan entry is really awesome missing old judwa now this movie for 10-15 times I watched movies . Waiting for judwa 3 movie with Salman khan .. shooting is done in mumbai locations that is really awesome all actors did great role. I really love it coolie movie is really awesome keep it up Varun Dhawan enjoyed a lot.
I am fan of David Dhawan-Govinda movies...but this movie is an insult to his talent and name... First of all Sara Ali Khan should find some other career option, she can't act. Secondly, Varun shouldn't be considered a second Govinda...Govinda is a legend.
We don't want a second Govinda. Third but not the least, talents like Paresh Rawal, Jawed Jaffery and Rajpal Yadav were misused...
Pls don't spoil the fun of 90s classics, by making such nuisance movies. I didn't have less than 1 star to give...so 1.

The title is enough to describe the movie in one word. Back in 90's there was a different Bollywood.
There were typical recipe masala movies, which sole purpose was to provide, typical song filled, funny (in a way) with a little drama and action based movies, in other words a good time pass movies with no sense at all.
But Bollywood has changed now, with movies coming with a subject, message and some serious acting. David Dhawan back in 90's was the typical paisa wasool type director / producer, but that formula is long gone.
Varun Dhawan, a good actor, but still finding his name in the industry, going for such movie will not help with its cause. Judwa re-make perhaps an idea which should have remained till that only, making re-makes, word by word, scene by scene but with more horrible overacting could be a disaster and this is what this movie is all about.
Sara Ali Khan, an item figure and nothing more, she has to learn a lot and do a serious film, otherwise, wont be here for too long.
Shikha Talsania, wasted, completely wasted in the movie.
The movie has nothing new to offer, over acting by Varun in each and every scene, might be entertainment in cinema for few but over all a horrible thing to watch online.

Many viewers having been comparing Coolie no 1 to the original as well as saying the movie is senseless. However, since when are bollywood comedies sensible...David Dhawan brings us a funny entertainer for 2020 and Varun dhawan definitely entertains. The music is refreshing mixing modern with original tracks. Paresh rawal, Javed jaferry, and rajpal have moments that do you make you laugh.
The screenplay could have been improved and there could have been more funny moments. However, if you want a laugh, ignore the negative reviews and don't compare to the original. Sit back and just take coolie no 1 for what it is and you will enjoy it.

The justice of 1.5 ratings does not give this movie justice. It does have a story, there is comedy and plenty of opportunities to make anyone smile! The songs are remixes of the original songs but are good on loud volume. Varun Dhawan acting was great along with all other actors and Johnny Lever bought his own charismatic personality. It was a nice film and needs to be credited for this especially as bollywood has released it in covid times, a proper family movie that all will enjoy. 😊

I thought this movie will have elements of the old one and add some new angle to the storyline, but the entry of coolie no. 1, and unnecessary glorification, made me switch. sometimes I feel these people are done with their creativity and stuck in their glory days, which won't come back, they think these movies will still be a hit, yeah lets face it, the original was absurd but it was absurd with some acting which made it watchable. I cannot imagine Govinda-Kader Khan replaced, it is not possible. I switched to Ak vs Ak, a much better movie to watch

I have seen you in October and I know you can act and probably want to do more movies like October.
Please go ahead and make movies such as Coolie No.1 for the masses and be proud of it. But also consider your viewers who do access OTT platforms. With no judgement, you know that the viewers of theaters and the OTT and very very different, so you ought to take opportunities in OTT shows/series/movies wherein you need to do serious stuff like October.
I wish a very happy new year, you are better than this.

Everybody jumping on the bandwagon to demote the movie saying its garbage and whatnot... I enjoyed it, so did my family and I never once had an awkward moment with my parents. Its a family comedy movie. It has some nostalgic moments from the original Coolie No. 1 and I really like the over-the-top acting. Comedy is just light hearted comedy. Paresh Rawal and the ensemble additional cast come out on top for me. Sara Ali Khan can't act so God help her. But relax guys, live a little and if you can't stand the movie. Then move on. For anybody who is looking for a laugh- you will find it here. Get out of your depression folks and laugh!

David Dhawan once again proved that everything has it's expiry and he himself is no exception. Although with highly capable and talented ensemble cast including his son Varun who has no lack of energy, comic acting capability and star material, the movie is a pain to watch. Does this basic norm David is not aware of... Comedy cannot be forced? From the very first scene where Paresh Rawal, originally played by Kader Khan with his formidable one liner, delivered his first line with chewing accent, you start feeling the stink. This is the 2nd occasion when an acting mastreo like Rawal fall flat in front of Kader khan after Himmatwala remake. And this torture follows with Rachpal (Shakti Kapoor), javed jafri (Sadashiv), Johni lever (Anupam kher) and last but not the least Varun (numero uno comedy king Govinda). Every scene was attempted to outdo the original version, keeping the dialogues /screenplay almost same but without the free flow of comedy spontaneity. So if one loved cooli no 1 (Govinda), he will be compelled to switch of the movie after half an hour max. Shame David, shame

Having just finished watching this with my family, I'm was pleasantly surprised by how this movie still managed to be a fun watch. Granted it wasn't superb by any means, but seeing all this negative reviews, I felt compelled to share my experience and let people know to give this movie a chance. Here's my breakdown:
Pros: 1) David Dhawan directed this movie. Only fair for him to do both the original and remake 2) If there's ever any actor that can come remotely close to Govinda, it's def Varun Dhawan. He did well in this role 3) Supporting cast was fun to watch as these are all legends and only David Dhawan is able to bring them all together on-screen
Cons: 1) Instead of a remake, this should have been a sequel. It would have been fun to see David Dhawan continue to story of the original to create something new and refreshing, possibly with Govinda reprising his role and Varun playing his son 2) Needed an original soundtrack. It's one thing to copy one classic song and put it within a new movie nowadays, but to do basically the entire soundtrack of the original goes a bit too far. Let the classic songs stay as classics and let's create some new music, especially bringing back the 90s legends such as Kumar, Alka, Udit, etc. 3) The on-screen chemistry of Varun and Sara didn't really work as well as one would like. I believe either having Varun paired with someone else or giving Sara more on-screen time would help to develop more chemistry since this is a new pair. Sara is still young and finding her groove.
Overall, go in not expecting to be mind-blown and treat it as a fun masala movie that has its moments.

I have never rated a movie ever before. However I made it a point to login this time and Rate this particular movie. This is because, I have lost some IQ points while watching this movie.
Even from a totally mindless comedy standpoint, this movie needs to be called out for it truly underestimates its audience's entertainment appetite and this could be the only way (although highly insignificant ) i could give it back.
PS: My biggest disappointment is to see Javed Jafri in it. Why did you sign this one, dude? I can totally understand for others in this movie, but why you? I can't buy that it's for money. The only plausible reason I could think of is you wanted to show off how fit you are for this age still and this movie wanted to have at least one timeless tag to it.
PPS: David Dhawan : It's okay to just say THE END

I wished this film had released so the producers could feel the disappointment with the film's earnings as I was disappointed with its content.
The bad remixes, over-acting of Varun Dhawan, the constant attempt by director and actor of Dhawans to copy everything Govinda did.
Varun should stick to dancing in ABCD films. Clearly he cannot do something of his own!
One cannot copy Govind. Sure it worked (financially) with Salman's Judwaa remake but it doesnt mean it ail keep working with all the remakes. Judwaa 2 was still too lavishly made but no content.
Johnny Levers comedy is misused. Javed Jaffrey is wasted talent. Poor Sara Ali Khan that kept waiting in the balcony for someone to save the film because the writers didnt give her a chance to do anything else but be eye candy.
Stay away and keep the original Coolie no.1 film's memory intact.

Another terrible remake. If they want to do a remake why this? this is a really poor script. A lot of meaningless dialogues and those dialogues are supposed to be funny. About acting, is director wants actors to perform like that. They are overacting none of them were good to me. I was disappointed with Varun's performance. One of Sara Ali Khan's previous movie Simmba has these kinds of silliness. There is a director just for credits that's it. Even without this director, this movie could be made. Even you are a fan of the original movie or cast I do not recommend this to you.

It is an ok comedy film. Kind of what you expect after seeing the trailer. Maybe a bit better than what the trailer had shown. Good for a one time watch as a light hearted comedy. Good for a few laughs and a family entertainment. Can not of course be compared with the original. I mean the original was also a bit "unrealistic" and bit much, but it was still quite believable due to proper acting and rhythm. I actually believe it could also have been a good film, if it not had been so over the top. Every scene is filled with over the top acting and nothing seems believable. But I guess it is what sells nowadays. Anyways would still suggest for a one time masala watch!
Doesn't necessarily deserve the 1 stars.
