Yes...this IS how we dooze it !

Although this show falls into the genre of "reality TV", it serves up so much more. It's entertaining, there's humor, there's energy from the staff, but most importantly it doubles as a training film on the right way to sell. Coming from a strong customer relations background which includes working as a sales rep for Sony Canada (the largest home and commercial manufacturer of electronics in the world) I can tell you 1st hand that the sales techniques Chop's staff employs is EXACTLY what every business owner wants & needs. There is a parallel between this show and the movie "Glen Gary Glenross"...and that's saying a LOT!

I don't agree with those who put down or dis the show. Some talk about how can you trust buying a car from a setting such as Towbin Dodge. Granted, the atmosphere is off the hook and deviant from the norm. Buying a car is a big decision. Most salesmen are all high pressure and hard sell and don't make for a comfortable feeling for the customer. King Of Cars takes that tension away, and goes out of it's way to make the customer at home and comfortable. Their business practice is simply good business. No wonder they're #1 in Nevada. If you're in sales...WATCH THIS SHOW AND LEARN!!! Again...from personal experience I can relate to the sales methods used by these guys...and YES it works without scaring the customer. And Josh...in case you're reading this...keep on doozin it thata way! ps: if you ever need a mover, lemme know bro!

    Keep'n It Real Baby!!

This show is a glimpse into the true life of how this guy runs his straight up business. I am blow away that for once, you get to see how people who know how to live really live!! I have been in sales for most of my life and the BEST part of sales is finding a Boss like CHOP. If you work for someone like him, you have found a great place to work/live because CHOP keeps it fun, PROFITIABLE, and a non-stop party for everyone involved.

Glen-Gary Glen-Ross was the instructional video to watch if you want to know what REAL sales is about. Now, if you want to see what it really takes to be a true salesman (and see how the owner of a dealership is the only true winner and why YOU should become the owner...lol) Watch and LEARN from the King of Cars show on A&E.

This is not a TV show... It's a front row seat into the lessons of REAL LIFE as a salesman. Watch, take notes and learn something.

Here's to A&E for keeping it REAL!!

If you EVER intend on buying a car, watch this show!

At first, I had no desire to watch this program - it was promoted "too commercial" of a "reality" show for me - the rap/hip hop - the "bling-bling", and SALESMEN. As a consumer, the one thing I hate is sleazy salesmen. But a few weeks ago I turned into a marathon of this program on the A&E channel and just fell in love with it. Why? Because I think that this show should be a mandatory view for ANYONE who will EVER purchase a car in their lives. And if like me you've purchased a few cars, this show is a refresher course.

I wish they had shown this show BEFORE I bought my first car. I had a car in mind, I thought I knew what I wanted and I thought my credit was perfect...because I had NO credit (just a student loan) and I thought buying a USED, putt-putt "little old lady from Pasadena" car would take me out of the hassle of 5 year payments, extended warranties, etc. It was a Plymouth Horizon, list price: $1,700. When it was all over, (financing, $500.00 down, SHOP warranty, etc.) I owned a used Plymouth Horizon which I ended up paying $9,800 for a $1,700 car! Think I learned anything? Nope. When I paid that off, I bought a used Hyundai for $7,000. When it was all over I paid $12,900 for it!! Two weeks after I paid it off, the Hyundai DIED. You think I was a bit knowledgeable by that time? Nope. I bought a BRAND NEW sports car which I negotiated DOWN from $22,500 to $15,700. I was proud of myself thinking I saved SO much. Paid too much. Paid that off...bought a new/used car (..had 300 miles on it). Same thing. Paid that off a year ago. Paid too much. Now, I'm riding in my car with no debt. Anything happens to it, I put that car together with "spit and polish" for I REFUSE to get into car debt again....and then this show comes along and explains every thing I went through. Could've saved quite a few steps.

To save folks from the above -- watch this show. I don't care if you bring your momma, your uncle, your best friend, a brain surgeon, etc., in with you when you buy a new or used car and intend on financing...you will still get it from these folks and "King of Cars" shows you why, and how it is done. Be upset watching this - criticize this, it's a good thing! But I bet if you walk into a dealer with this knowledge, you'll get a better car deal. I am SURE car dealers around the country HATE this show - or are praying consumers NEVER watch it. There is little variation on the "sale", it all comes down to what you see - be it a high end shop like this, or a corner neighborhood lot.

King of Cars starts off with a basic sales premise: sell. That's all "Chop" who owns SEVERAL dealerships and loves cars himself wants to do. To me, the salesmen all look like "ladies of the night" standing out side of the showroom ... waiting for a customer to come in to descend on and present their deals and wares. They're dressed in nice suits, they're nice and offer you whatever they can to sell you the car at the best mark-up possible. It's that simple. Forget the games, the camaraderie, women selling vs. men selling, the Blue Genie...it's nothing more than that. There is more knowledge in this show about getting a car than anything else I've ever seen. Watch this and learn.

This is really how it is

I love this show. I used to work at a car dealership as an internet manager and then a salesperson. This show hits the nail on the head about how the car selling business really works. Just like my Canadian friend said, this is a must see for anyone in sales. It takes a certain kind of person to be successfully in this business and "King of Cars" is an excellent example of success from management on down. From my personal experience, it's all about getting the customer into the car they want at the payment they want. This can be challenging if a customer comes in with bad credit and no money down. Car selling and financing is a science with no two deals being exactly the same. Watch this show and see the best at work.

    Entertaining but Sad

Take a look America, you all wonder why the big three manufacturers are in all kinds of financial trouble, here it is. For the average American buying a car in the average dealership today, it is still like going to some kind of demented circus. It still surprises me that a company like Chrysler would allow a TV show like this to be on the air. It's enough they make the worst cars on the market, now they want the process of getting ripped off put on national television.

You really have to work as a car salesman to understand how much the job really sucks and how car dealerships today really work. The money isn't as good as they make it out to be, and the environment is usually awful. I know, I'm not even the tender age of 30 yet but I probably know as much about the car business as anybody out there. I've worked every aspect of the business from sales to service to recon, pretty much grew up around the business. When I see stuff like this on TV it makes me wanna throw up.

Does the average person even realize what goes on inside a car dealership in this day in age? Most people don't realize that car salesmen are threatened DAILY that they'll be fired, no matter how much they produce or not produce. Even if a salesmen is making some money(which is a rarer thing then most people realize)they're usually working 70-80 hours a week and being verbally abused constantly or they're related to the owner. Not to mention feuds that go on between salesmen which are constantly fueled by managers as a way to motivate salesmen to sell more. I've seen this type of thing turn physical more then once, and usually the only thing anyone does is quit or get fired. Even if you're in a non right to work state, you still don't have any rights because you're in a commisionable job in which most labor laws don't apply, or even if they do they usually get ignored.

GM, Ford, and Chrysler still blame all their money problems on their employees in their plants, yet things in the dealerships that bear their names and sell their products are running amuck. Dealerships are still taking advantage of their customers in both sales and service and abusing employees on a daily basis. Americans are still buying "domestic" automobiles and don't take the time to see that a large percentage of them are being built in other countries. Americans are overpaying for poorly designed cars because they think they are being loyal to America. It's really sad to see that the Toyota Camry is the only car on the nascar circuit that is built in the United States.

Trust me this show is entertaining to most people because they don't have to work in a car dealership. The sad thing about the business is that chop is probably BY FAR one of the better people to work for in the car industry, and I'm sure editing can take the credit for some of that. I personally wouldn't want to spend a large chunk of my income in a place where the owner looks like he's in public enemy, and a salesman who's dressed up like a clown.
